I did not give 5 stars because during my initial consultation with the GP, I asked to be referred to a doctor in my local area. Instead, I was given 3 suggestions for doctors located miles away from my home. Thanks to a friend's advice, I managed to find another Bupa approved doctor near me.

Beyond useless.
Had a video consultation, waited a couple of months for letters or something in the app. NOTHING. Rang them up & they said it was up to me to go to the doctors, get a referral letter, then submit to them. What is the point in it all? Getting the doctors appointment was the original stumbling block, hence why I used Bupa.
So now I have the letter, they finally approved it, finding a consultant nearby is the next waste of time. I'm not travelling an hour to see a specialist. There is a private hospital less than 2 miles from work, only 1 doctor there for around 4 hours per week.
Very disjointed, no point having the app really.

Called before my appointment, then told to rebook
This review relates specifically to my experience with Bupa this morning.
My telephone appointment was scheduled for 07:45. The practitioner called at 07:44. I returned to my desk just as the call ended, with no way to call them back. There was no second attempt at the scheduled appointment time, just a voicemail asking me to rebook.
I had planned my morning to the minute: waking early, getting ready for work, taking my son to the train station, making breakfast for my daughters and feeding the fish. I was at my desk on time, yet the appointment did not go ahead because I missed a call made before it was due.
Why call early and then make no further attempt at the agreed time? A second call would have given me the opportunity to answer and attend my appointment.
Being asked to rearrange an appointment in these circumstances is deeply frustrating. I expect Bupa to respect its patients’ time and give them a reasonable opportunity to answer at the time booked.

I received treatment for basal cell carcinomas. I went ahead with the treatment without contacting BUPA and paid for it. I spoke to the BUPA representative who was very helpful in getting me authorisation codes allowing me to reclaim. She made every effort to help including calling the clinic to get details of the surgeon to make sure that I was covered. In total she spent over 20 minutes ensuring that she could deal with the issue comprehensively.

Despite originally being told that GP visits were refundable for Guernsey customers it proved impossible to get an authorisation number.

All very easy. I rang the BUPA telephone number, gave the handset to the hospital administrator and relaxed.
My hospital treatment appointment was made for two weeks time at my convenience.

On 1st September, I submitted my claim. On 3rd October, I was told that further information was needed, and on 5th October I provided invoices, receipts, Company name, membership number, by email. Since then, I have heard nothing. I have received no acknowledgement, no update and no decision, even though two weeks have passed.
This has caused me delay in reimbursement / uncertainty about my cover.

If I could give zero I would.. be prepared to disclose EVERYTHING you have ever suffered from on your application, I mean upset stomachs, toothache, colds, cold sores, ulcers, an insect bite.. anything and everything as these leeches will try and use ANYTHING they can to get out of paying for a claim. I declared everything that I had had treatment for or been in hospital for and anything pre existing and this awful company still tried to say that my claim was pre existing when it absolutely wasn't. I went through the FOS but as apparently in BUPA's small print, they expect you declare every ailment you have ever had; the couldn't uphold my complaint. So basically BUPA will happily take your money and then try and get out of paying for claims. Go with AXA Health instead, I had them for years and they were amazing. much better priced too and the service was brilliant.

I have used BUPA a few times during the last year the service is always excellent especially at the first point of contact. Obtaining authorisation codes has been straight forward and always clearly explained by great staff.
