I had a shockingly terrible experience…
I had a shockingly terrible experience with this company - while heavily pregnant, they left me stranded in Bologna Airport. I was told abruptly by the girl serving me to get the rental that they wouldn't hire me the car. The reason was because the surname on my credit card (married name) didn't match the surname on my passport (maiden name). I tried explaining that both names are legally recognised and valid. She said it was a matter of company policy, so I asked to see where exactly where in the policy this requirement was stated. She wasn't able to show me, because it's not stated in the small print, anywhere nor in the Discover Cars smallprint. I tried numerous other options, even at one point showing her a copy of my birth certificate to prove my identity. I tried getting a refund, as I'd prepaid, but Discover Cars flat-out refused, and were indifferent to my experience. They've registered themselves in Latvia, and any legal action must be done in accordance with Latvian law. In a nutshell, once they have your money, there is absolutely nothing you can do to get it back and their smallprint states you won't get a refund whether you get a car or not.

No info in listing as to how to handle 'out of hours' or whether this involves extra expense or is even possible. 17:15 is, shall we say, rather early for a near-airport agency to close for the day and our flight is three hours later.
We've booked in reliance on the refund policy declared, but suggest clearer web info would make the booking process easier.

We had a relatively new car with only 10,000km on the clock. It ran well and we had no problems. Customer agent at the airport was friendly and helpful. Car was in good condition and good value.
We did have to wait while Avis Preferred customers were served, despite them turning up after us and while we were being served.
Lanzarote is easy to get around in a car - and without one you won't be able to explore it very well, as the public buses mainly go to main cities. Other option is to be stuck in tour groups..
