Wish I could give 0 stars

Wish I could give 0 stars - they said my dog was not even born before she had puppies. Completely incorrect age as well as 100% pitbull which vets have said is very much unlikely. I think their science is fraudulent and their customer service did not even listen to my request - which clearly laid out why my dog could not possibly be the age they said. They put "18 months" in fine print so really they could guess any age and get away with it. Really excited for them to be in a class action someday. Horrible company.

Scientific Methodology Not Approved

Tests are not FDA reviewed for veterinary medical products, this is junk science.

Ordered an age test - said my dog was 15 years and 6 months. I have photos of her from 17 years ago - she was much older than even the error bounds stated... Doesn't work - DNA methylation is not accurate and should not be marketed as it is.

Also results took so long my dog passed away, quite literally, by the time I was supposed to know how old she was. I really hope this company gets shut down.

Very pleasant experience from start to finish! Got our test, set up an account and sent off the samples in the prepaid box, once it got to the US it was very speedy! I sent them off around the 4th Jan and had her results back on the 30th! So much detail, really happy with it, love that you can see a breakdown and consisted of breeds we knew about and answered the questions of the others. Although our dog looks like a full Australian terrier, and has been mistaken by one by breeders, I was well aware she was 100% not one and was a yorkie mix, sorted out my curiosity, thank you

i don't think you should trust them

beside the fact it took so much time to arrive, it was a total waste of money for me.. my dog is 100% "eastern eaurope village dog". as someone already said: that's not a damn breed.
on the site they got examples to lure you showing different breed and percentage of a mixed dog. that's bs

Well the time it took was good

Well the time it took was good, but honestly think they fed me a bunch of BS, my results said I had a purebred, when I know for sure my dog isn't. He dad was mixed, so I have 4 others I was gonna use but not now, completely inaccurate. And for 100 bucks, it was a waste

I wasted $100 on an Embarkvet DNA test

I wasted $100 on an Embarkvet DNA test. I ran into another dog who was the spitting image of mine. Her owner had her tested by Embark and was told he was Staffordshire and Skye terrier, also pit bull etc. My dog who everybody identifies as some kind of terrier mix came back as Chihuahua, Miniature Pinscher, Poodle, Pomeranian none of which he looks like at all. No terrier at all which is unbelievable.
I complained to Embark and was told that people don’t know anything about breeds, vets don’t understand DNA etc. (my vet said the results were not impossible but highly unlikely).
I requested a retest which is advertised on their website but was turned down.
Embark gets generally positive reviews but I think in my case the sample was either mishandled, contaminated, or there wasn’t enough DNA to be accurate and they’re unwilling to make it right. I cannot recommend the company.

Fantastic service

Fantastic service, fast results once they have the dna sample, great support service with fast replies. When you live outside the USA, the costs for sending the sample to them are on you but they do pay back the customs invoice immediately. Everything is clearly indicated on their website so people complaining about these points didn't read well.

I'm in Canada and they sent me an envelope with stamps to send the sample to US. Almost 20 days later my sample was returned to me. When I try to contact customer service, I just get some automated replies that say the same thing over and over again. Super disappointing. Now I have paid $200 and still have no idea how to send. I do not recommend.

Waste of money and a scam

Waste of money and a scam! We were referred to EmbarkVet by an acquaintance who gave us a discount code. Terrible experience all together. It took weeks for the kit to get to and from us to USA. We've even paid for the fastest delivery. The test results were such a random scam. We have a Serbian Tricolor Hound mix and live in Croatia (the Balkans). This is a specific breed which originates and is found almost exclusively the Balkans (ex-Yugoslavia). Our dog's test result game back that he's a 100% American Village Dog (found specifically in the region of Central and South America... This is not only unlikely, but physically impossible! After insisting they do a review and giving them all the backstory info about our dog + photos to help with the review, they just changed it to Eastern European Village Dog (probably to get me off their back). At that point, they've stopped replying to emails. Which leads me to believe their algorithm is bad, they don't have a lot of diverse samples, and this is just a random guessing game for 180 euros. Waste of money. Avoid at all cost!
Edit: To highlight - Village Dogs are not a breed.

Embark charges a lot of money for their most basic test and it was fairly generic in the results. I used Wisdom and got exceptionally comprehensive and accurate info for far less money. I was very disappointed in embark - I had high hopes that were quickly dashed upon opening the results which were only a page long with no traits listed. I would not use embark and would tell anyone to try Wisdom first. You get more info for your money and they are arguably the first dog dna company.

Embark is true and the haters are frauds!

I had to write a review because of all the ignorant and incompetent reviews by people with their fake dogs. I already knew my dogs family tree and Embark got it exactly right on both sides. Even more useful was the health information that these negative reviewers could care less about.

Waste of time and money

I bought a DNA test kit prior to Christmas. After at least 2-3 months I was told they couldn’t get a result and another swab was sent. Same process with same result so I sent a 3rd swab. 9 months later they still can’t figure it out and now my dog is dead. Thanks for nothing Embark. 9 months to tell me they can’t figure into it. Process is ridiculously slow to take 2-3 months per swab. Now they want me to go back 9 months and figure out the original order number so they can refund my money. No one has an email from 9 months ago. They should already know the order number and take care of it after not being able to read the results. It’s called customer service! Don’t waste your time or money!

We were so excited to see the results.

We were so excited to see the results, which are junk, said that our dog was 100% American Bull Terrier. We know for a fact that the farther is Bully (which granted has some Pit in them) however she has some strange traits and conformation that looks to be Akita mother was mixed breed we were hoping for some insight, got nothing this is a scam.

It's a scam

I was so excited to do this DNA test for my rescue puppy, turns out this is a complete scam. The result we got back was "a village dog" that's not a breed. You're saying I just paid $100+ for you to tell me my mutt is a mutt basically. Don't get ripped off by these people. A "village" dog is not a breed. They can literally say this about any non-pure bred dog. They are just scamming people, getting their money, and saying oh it's a village dog, here is some information about village dogs..have a good day! BS. DON'T WASTE YOUR HARD-EARNED MONEY ON THIS COMPANY

Zero customer service

The customer service is really terrible. I have twice paid for a health report for my dog and still have not received it. You can't call anyone and they just don't answer emails or the chat. I had to file a complaint with my bank. They upsold me on something I didn't realize I had paid for several years prior and I still haven't received it.

My main issue is with the age test

My main issue is with the age test. I received it as a gift, activated it and then was notified that they weren’t activating the age test anymore because of an error in their calculation model. They gave a refund to the person who bought it but they refused to accommodate my ad the end user by offering a replacement or discount code towards a new age test when they resolve the error. I understand that this unique in that I was not the purchaser and that party was refunded but they did nothing for the end user which I feel like was a reasonable request given that this is their error.

Wish I read trustpilot first..

Ordered a kit in December. Finally got around to using it. Activated it on the website and sent it off on April 13th. Nearly 2 weeks later the profile still says "awaiting sample". No explanation from the company regarding the status. Blew £129 on nothing. Avoid.

“Expires” after 24 months… without informing customer.

I tried to activate my breeder DNA kit online today. It said that my unused kit had already been activated. In chatting with embark I was told that my kit had “expired“ and that my only options were to either abandon the $140 kit or else pay an additional $25 to receive a replacement kit. I was told that this is embarks terms of sale. Upon further investigation, I discovered that this “24 month expiration“ term was NOT part of the terms of service that I agreed to when I purchased my kit on June 30, 2020. This language was apparently added since June 30, 2020. You can not add an expiration date to a product after you sell it! As a breeder, I need to have kits on hand to use on short notice, and I cannot always wait the time required to order a kit and wait for it to arrive in the mail. Internet archive has an archive copy of embark’s website of the terms and conditions at the time I place my order. No mention is made of the product expiring.

Do not use the qr code inside Embarkvet boxes. Their site has been hacked and apparently they don't care. They have no phone numbers available to customers to call, only a chat bot. I've spent all morning shutting down credit cards and all the charbot can say is "the charges were not from us".
Use Wisdom Panel, they have humans that care.
