Real-World Experience is the Real Gem
operators and industry experts in your cohort as you learn venture capital from the inside. In my opinion, though, the real gem within the curriculum is the Investment Program, where participants can get real-world experience as a venture partner sourcing deals and assessing opportunities against the fund's investment thesis.
This hands-on experience allows you to develop a point of view on market sizing, competitive dynamics, defensibility, and understanding which metrics and milestones matter at different stages (pre-seed vs. Series A). The experience of sourcing deals in your domain, developing your investment skills, earning carried interest on successful investments, and expanding your network—all without having to quit your job—is reason enough to join the GoingVC program.
My Experience was Amazing
I was part of cohort 12. This was a 16-week program that included live lectures and training with various ways to apply and test our knowledge in real time. Many of the sessions were taught by well-known VC founders and experts who provided very helpful advice in addition to what they taught in their sessions. So many resources, tools, templates, and more were provided. There was also a career resource to help find jobs in VC.
Another benefit is the relationships you build. You're able to connect with past cohort members and your cohort members. I still communicate with people who were in my cohort.
One of the best parts for me was being a part of GVC's investor program and being able to source deals and present them to the group. You're able to walk through each of the due diligence steps and conduct analysis on possible deals that GVC may invest in. This allows you to apply what you learned in the program to real deals!
I recommend this program for anyone who is new to VC and for those who have been in VC for a while and need a refresher. Things are constantly changing in VC, and this program provides the most current information available. It's also easy to get in touch with someone if you have questions.
Break into the VC "Black Box" and Establish Meaningful, Career-Driving Connections
The breadth of speakers from across the VC and founder space made the experience both memorable and impactful, and I'm very much looking forward to leveraging the extensive GoingVC network that I now have access to. The online platform via Teachable and Notion made completing assignments straightforward and kept all the materials organized and accessible for future reference. The technical training in deal evaluation, due diligence, and personal branding gave me practical frameworks I could immediately apply to my future outreach and networking efforts. One piece of feedback would be to incorporate time at the end of the cohort for members to present and review their investment theses with peers or program administrators. Overall, GoingVC provided a solid foundation for someone like me looking to break into venture capital.
Comprehensive and hands-on
The GoingVC Education Program is comprehensive and sources excellent talent for lectures. Many of the speakers are open to continued connection including mentorship. GoingVC has been a very useful resource for expanding my knowledge and gaining hands-on experience in the venture capital ecosystem. As part of the Investor Program, I co-authored a healthcare transparency investment thesis and was deeply supported by the Program Manager, Dan, throughout the process via Office Hours and helpful examples. In addition, I've sourced and reviewed deals through the Investor Program and that has been integral to shifting my thought patterns to reflect the mindset of a VC professional. Overall, I highly recommend the program.
Useful curriculum with a team working diligently to create an extraordinary program
As with all things of this nature, you will get out of GoingVC what you put in. The curriculum for GoingVC is strong—it certainly provides the basics you need in order to pursue a career in VC and "speak the language."
When I took the program, it definitely had some shortcomings: The materials could use a copy editor for clarity, and sometimes the coursework seems so basic that it feels like you should be going deeper. Further, the meeting times are sporadic, so it can be very difficult to fit GoingVC into your schedule since the schedule shifts from week to week.
All of that said, feedback on these issues has been heard and I have it on good authority that they are addressing most, if not all, of these issues ASAP. One put into practice, I expect these changes will make the educational program best-in-class.
I would be remiss to not mention perhaps the most useful part of GoingVC: The investor program. In the investor program, you take on the job of scouting deals for the GoingVC syndicate. This was immensely useful for me, forcing me to go out, find startups, and network with founders (which was a daunting task in the beginning, but became easier over time).
Great program!
Great program! I found the content super useful and easy to access. Dan from the program team was always there to answer any questions I had. I feel like I got a ton out of my participation, and it definitely felt worth it to take the course! Would highly recommend to anyone looking to break into VC.
The High-Impact Bridge for Seasoned Professionals Entering Impact Investing
GoingVC delivered exactly what I needed: a rigorous, compressed education in venture mechanics and a direct line into a global community of practitioners. It has equipped me not to just understand impact investing, but to actively participate in it—whether by evaluating deals, structuring blended finance models, or building stronger bridges between philanthropists and high-potential startups. For the serious professional looking to operationalize their impact at the intersection of capital and innovation, it’s a transformative investment.
A community full of ambitious leaders
GoingVC has been a surprisingly impactful addition to my experience in venture. I came in with a business school background, some investor relations experience and some startup experience thinking I already knew most of what would be discussed, but throughout the program I learned significantly more than expected. From different perspectives on evaluating deals to raising your own fund. More importantly I got plugged into an ambitious community full of leadership opportunities. I was able to lead and teach new scouts through their first sourcing process, publish several playbooks to pass on my learnings and get exposed to a wealth of career opportunities I would not have been privy to otherwise. GoingVC does a great job of not just educating the future of venture investors but also building an enduring and supportive community willing to help you grow.
A VC Program You Can Grow With Over Time
I really like GoingVC because it’s a lifetime membership, which means I can always come back and continue learning. Work gets busy, and it’s easy to fall behind or lose track of certain topics, so having the ability to revisit past webinars or rewatch sessions I didn’t fully understand at the time has been incredibly helpful.
What I especially appreciate is that the program grows with you. Even after getting a role at one of the top VC accelerators, Techstars, I still find myself coming back to GoingVC to refresh my thinking, deepen my understanding, and stay sharp on fundamentals. It’s not just a course you “finish”, it’s a resource you can rely on throughout your career in venture.
A high commitment, thoughtful program that delivers
GoingVC is an intense program and requires a meaningful time commitment each week—but it is absolutely worth it. I personally learned a lot and came away feeling empowered. The community is incredibly supportive and welcoming. A lot of care and effort went into communicating complex venture concepts clearly and thoughtfully. The program director is exceptionally kind, generous with time, and deeply knowledgeable, with a clear commitment to each participant’s success. Overall, GoingVC feels like a community that truly wants you to learn, grow, and succeed—not just complete a course.
Must Join Program
GoingVC was and is an exceptional program with a stellar network. Best part of the program is you are able to learn by doing which is very hard to do in venture capital. If it wasn't for this experience, I wouldn't be where I am today. I owe a lot of my success to them.
5-Stars for relevant and high level course!
GoingVC is a really great program for anyone interested in a wide ranging primer on venture capital. They brought in a ton of current practitioners to give color to the topics each week. In my experience, hearing the guest speakers were more valuable than many traditional MBA courses due to their relevance as it pertains to the industry.
Additionally, GoingVC offers students the ability to join the GVC Fund, giving real world, hands on experience as a venture analyst. This was a personal highlight of mine!
All in all, I'd highly recommend this course to anyone interested.
