Multsite Nightmare
I had a WordPress multisite which i wanted to transfer to Hostinger, and got hosting supposedly 'optimized' for WordPress.
The servers may be: the people aren't. I'm not a tech person, i haven't studed IT, so i was relying to some extent on support advice.
This is what they say on their website: "Effortless installation, quick set-up and immediate online exposure with cheap WordPress hosting. It's simple with Hostinger."
No, it wasn't simple, it was a nightmare. I spent 4 months going back and forth with no sites, except the parent site, to show for it.
Because i was engaging with their 'help,' i went past the 30 day refund period, so despite not having anything to show for it after that period of time, i wasn't allowed a refund. They were adamant that 30 days was the cut off.
Furthermore, they had little idea about multisites. For instance, i was told to create add on domains, which multisites don't require.
Initially it was very much a diy project: support would refer you to instructions. These were fairly good, provided you were referred to the appropriate information-not always the case.
Support were friendly, but couldn't handle anything beyond their shift. If they were halfway through an issue when their shift ended, you had to explain the whole thing over again to the next person.
To be fair, the process was complicated at the start by an ftp program that absolutely butchered my initial file transfer, poor support from the multisite plugin i was using, and some files that went missing.
These things made the process a lot more involved, but beyond them, Hostinger could have provided better advice, avoided the wrong advice they gave, and made the process more efficient, rather than trial by restoration.
In the end, i threw up my hands and decided to take a different approach, focusing on WordPress imports, rather than backups, databases, and the public_html directory. Had Hostinger been more invested, with perhaps more WordPress savvy, they might have suggested this themselves (they didn't).
I moved to a different host and immediately started to make progress.
I'm going to delete everything on Hostinger, and use it for new sites i might create, then after my hosting period has finished, say goodbye, thanks for the aggravation...
