The perfect broadband provider

The perfect broadband provider for the slightly more technical customer. If you know what IPv6 and CGNAT are, you'll be pleased to know that they have the former and don't have the latter. If these abbreviations mean nothing to you, you can still be assured that IDnet offers a fast, reliable and affordable broadband service with a painless ordering and installation process, and fantastic customer-centric support!

Decided on IDNet after being with…

Decided on IDNet after being with Virgin Media for the last 9 years, and so far so good. Two months no issues, until today, the broadband dropped out, gave support a call, was picked up in 20 second by a local UK support person (Johnny) who confirmed there was an issue that OpenReach was looking at as their issue, all good not a problem at my end, couldn't be more impressed. The same issue with Virgin would have had me waiting many hours to speak to someone to get an unhelpful script driven response. The only reason I left Virgin was due to them not being able to offer me a new user deal when I moved house. For 8 years I never changed my plan whilst it increased annually (understand this is their business model) until I was paying £78 just for broadband. In hindsight I am thankful they forced me to leave, there are better options out there.

First year with iDNET was brilliant

First year with iDNET was brilliant. 500MB package that delivered on average 470Mbs tested throught the year many times using our own TP link archer router. On contract renewal, we were offered an upgrade to 1Gbs for £1 extra.
The new connection works only marginally better than tbe old delivering around 510Mbs and rarely gets anywhere near the new levels of up to 1Gbs.
I understand what 'Up to' means but as the old contract was close to that quoted, I had no reason to doubt.
Our router is a very well specified gaming 1Gbs fibre router and can handle the speed - if we had it.
iDNET confirmed
'THEY CONSIDER 50% AS WITHIN ACCEPTABLE PARAMETERS'

In the past I recommend iDNET, but no more. No backing out of contract allowed.

On regular online speed tests with Google, the line speed regularly drops below the 50% mark.

They sent their own router, which was plugged in and yes, it's speed tests went above 500Mbs but also below 500Mbs. This suggests they do not have network configuration set correctly to even guarantee 50% and instead rely on people not noticing.

Avoid if you can.

Excellent service, great communication, and an excellent broadband connection with super-fast speeds and low latency. Brilliant for gaming and remote work.

I cant fault them, highly recommend

Had a new install from CityFibre, no problems (apart from messy contractor and lack of caring when installing, way it go Kelly Group. A CityFibre issue not IDNet).

IDNet have been great, answered the phone quickly and always polite.

Connection has been rock solid on 1Gb, BQM been showing stability and extremely low latency.

Highly recommend.

If you value your sanity as a customer, put IDnet at the top of your list for switching

After spending around a decade with virgin and slowly learning that they no longer value and reward customer loyalty or feedback as they continue on their downward spiral into not being the only high speed internet in town, I made the jump to look for alternatives IDnet is moderately more expensive than other openreach competitors, however:

- You can use your own router
= define your own port configurations
- define your own DNS

And the sweetener to this is that because they're not subject to any high court website censoring, IDnet has the closest you'll come to a free and open internet the likes of which has not been seen since the early 2000's. This does not give you licence to do anything illegal, but it does give you licence to use the internet in a free and open manner.

In terms of connecting they have repeatedly gone above and beyond, are professional and courteous - even when dealing with pedantic and obsessive customers like myself. Truly, Kudos to IDnet for putting the customer first.

Rough patch recently

Been with IDNet for over a year now, and they've been mostly a decent, well performing ISP.

Connection will often drop and reconnect though shortly after midnight, or in the early morning hours. I believe this is due to Openreach maintenance, and not IDNet themselves. However, within this past week, I have suffered two extended outages (currently in the second) as a result of these post-midnight drops.

According to IDNet's status update of the first outage a few days ago, they had a gateway that wasn't playing nicely with these short disconnects (so issue here was on IDNet's end), resulting in the connection staying down all night.

Once I can excuse as a fluke, but for the same thing to happen just a few days later makes me start to question the reliability the service.

What a difference compared to Virgin

What a difference compared to Virgin! The customer service team are on the ball, always answer quickly and resolve everything. There is no foreign call centre, no confusion no frustrations. The install went perfectly, the internet service is incredible, I couldn't ne happier.

Virgin Media on the other hand are still messing up my final bill, and no one at Virgin can sort anything!

Fallen from grace

Idnet used to be an ISP who would strive to provide the best service possible. Unfortunately of late this has not been the case. Having recently signed a new 24mnth contract for the CityFibre Gaming Service. To take over the existing CF 1gb symmetrical service with Idnet. The service has gone from generally being on point. To woeful performance - with regular drops and varying speeds. Large amounts of diagnostics have been done and changes of hardware. Even using Idnet's own recommended router.

There was a time when I'd recommend Idnet the same as I'd recommend another known ISP(AAISP). Both have become stubborn in their ways, always trying to show they know better and to put down customers who complain about the poor performance.

Unfortunately it's the end of the road with Idnet for me. And off to another ISP who to date have provided an excellent connection via my Openreach FTTP without issue. Here's hoping they can provide a good experience on the CityFibre side too.

By far the best ISP in the UK

I’ve been with IDnet for 8 years now and in that time I’ve had an extremely good experience. Issues with the line are rare, if there is an issue it was an Openreach fault, not IDnet. Any time I’ve had to contact them it’s been quick and easy without a significant wait on the phone. I’ve sat and watched family members wait for an hour to talk to someone at BT that’s going to tell them to reboot their router when I know if they would just listen and switch to IDnet they would avoid all this. IDnet doesn’t mess around with the traffic on your line slowing it at certain times or any of that nonsense. I can’t think of anything they could do better. I wouldn’t go with any other ISP.

Real people taking the time to understand

We've been with IDNet for a few years now, for Broadband and PSTN Line Rental.

As traditional phone services will be retired at the end of 2025, we decided to switch to one of IDNet's UBoss VoIP services.

We were advised on the best deal for us to switch our router, which came pre-configured; so all we needed to do was unplug the old and plug in the new.

The phone service didn't go live when we'd been advised, but after an email to Support it was quickly sorted out.

Billing then went awry... but Chloe in Support patiently worked through the emails and bills and sorted out Credit Notes etc. so that billing is now running smoothly again.

It's a bonus when everything goes smoothly. For me the measure of a good company is how well they engage with customers and respond to sorting things out when problems arise. In this case I can recommend IDNet (particularly Chloe)!

Helpful, knowledgeable and generally fantastic customer service

I contacted IDNet after a hit-and-run on a cabinet took down the fibre ISP where I live. I'm self employed and work from home, so having internet access is mandatory.

After looking around at my options, I reached out to IDNet to see if they could help and was quickly contacted by Chloe. She was exceptionally helpful with answering my questions and placing an order. I was unable to provide the telephone number previously assigned to the line, but she was able to identify it using other information I provided. This then meant an engineer visit wasn't required, and thus she was able to get an activation date for the following day.

From placing the order, to the VDSL being enabled was less than 24 hours, with no charges for getting it done so quickly. You can't ask for better than that!

All-in-all I couldn't be happier with the experience. I will continue the IDNet connection even when my primary service is restored. The small cost to my business each month is worth the peace of mind, knowing that I have a reliable backup connection as and when I need it.

IDNET one of the very best

I’ve been with IDNET for 3 month now, they’re by far the best ISP I’ve used in the 24 years I’ve been online and I’ve used a few.

Their Customer Service is excellent and helped me resolve initial teething problems when my service was connected. The speed is stable even at the busiest of times and their network is also stable. Well done IDNET I can’t see myself leaving anytime soon.

Moved to IDNet CityFibre 150Mbps option…

Moved to IDNet CityFibre 150Mbps option and the process has been very straightforward and reliable so far. Install by CityFibre was on time (8am start) and fine. Used my existing Synology router (set VLan 911) and setup with the credentials previously emailed by IDNet. Worked first time and now have a static IPv4 address. Have not needed to contact IDNet at all so have not tested their support.

Great service from this serious ISP

We've used IDNet for the past couple of years over openreach FTTP. We have always achieved the advertised 500Mbps / 75Mbps speeds and overall consider the service to be excellent. Beyond speedtests, IDNet seem to be well peered and have consistently provided an great experience. Working from home at all hours this has been essential.

Reluctently posting this

Reluctently posting this -

Since I signed up the issues with responses from customer support has been a shambles, There was a delay in getting a switch date due to a "Openreach" system issue, Only time I got a date was when I complained directly to customer support and got refered to someone higher up in the company.

I can't fault the internet connection at all, Smooth sailing. Its the communication from IDnet thats the issue. I was connected 2 weeks and I got an email saying openreach will be attending X date please be in or you'll be charged. Urm hello? I have been connected for weeks, I asked why. I was told they would find out and email me. They didn't, I had to chase yet again which I was told this has been actioned off openreachs system. Fine I thought, Today Openreach turn up for the appointment that was "Actioned" off to change an ONT, I informed the engineer it wasn't needed but he wanted to scan a bar code, Fair enough I thought he'll soon be on his way. He left, I sit back at desk to carry on with work, NO CONNECTION. GREAT.

I call IDnet, They have no idea whats going on and no apology. I am told I will get a phone call to advise, In an hour the connection comes back up. Hmm still no phone call to apologise or inform me on what was going on, I sent at an email this afternoon asking what was the issue etc, Also questioning when my first direct debit would come out, No reply.

Now I don't know if i'm purposly being ignored or what, But i'm guessing them knowing i'm now tied for 24 months contract they feel they don't have a need to answer my emails.

Real strange support...
