After a tricky start due to new system being introduced etc I can hibestky say I am super happy.
Communication has been amazing throughout, working with me to help sort things, I now have an amazing patch that I am growing on and I can't wait to harvest .
Lovely concept and site manager not only friendly and helpful but really knowledgeable

I love being part of Roots allotments
I love being part of Roots allotments. It’s such a great community. The best bit is that all the equipment you need is available on site so no need to bring anything with you. There is even compost and manure available to use on your plot. I’ve just received a pack of 20 sets of seeds - everything to get me growing this year and soon I’ll be receiving plug plants too. It’s brilliant , if you want to learn how to grow I’d 100% recommend you joining .
I’ve had a starter plot at Roots Wigan…
I’ve had a starter plot at Roots Wigan since July 2025 and absolutely love it there. It’s not just a plot of land you get to grow on... everything you need to grow your own veg and flowers is also included - tools, seeds, plug plants, demonstrations and lessons & a fabulous app that has so many online lessons for you to watch and a group chat with every Roots site included where you can ask the whole of the community for help and advice. If you didn’t want to spend another penny apart from your subscription you wouldn’t need to as everything is provided.
If that wasn’t enough, the community that has developed at Roots Wigan is amazing. Dan the patch manager is brilliant… so friendly and full of enthusiasm. He’s a great source of information about growing and has arranged some brilliant events and classes for us all. Everyone is so friendly and I genuinely enjoy myself at the allotments everytime I’m there. There’s no where I would rather be on a lovely sunny day than pottering around on my plot, tending to the plants and catching up with fellow plotters 🌱
Amazing allotment
Myself and my fiancee have nothing but positive experiences having a Couples patch at Daffodil Views. Patch manager Dave is very informative, approachable, and a genuine good egg.
On top of that we have a great community there, and with other people there, and we genuinely look forward to getting up there with our kids when we can!
Roots Allotment is an absolute gem for…
Roots Allotment is an absolute gem for anyone who values fresh food, community spirit, and a deeper connection to nature. From the moment you step onto the site, you can feel the care and passion that has gone into creating such a welcoming and well-organised space.
The plots are thoughtfully laid out and well maintained, making it easy for both beginners and experienced growers to get stuck in. There’s a real sense of pride among members, and it shows in the quality of the produce and the overall atmosphere. Whether you're growing vegetables, herbs, or flowers, Roots provides the perfect environment to learn, experiment, and thrive.
What truly sets Roots Allotment apart is the sense of community. Everyone is friendly, supportive, and always willing to share tips or lend a hand. It’s not just a place to grow food—it’s a place to build connections and enjoy time outdoors in a meaningful way.
Recomend highly
I would, and have, recomend having a Roots allotment. It has all the tools, seeds and plugs and advise you need to start if your new to growing. I love my allotment (Newbottle) When I applied for a plot I told them I needed to be near amenities and the gate as I couldn't walk far. They did this and more, they put a bench near my plot so I could rest, thank you again for all of this. Catherine the site manager is great, always has a smile and asks how things are going, as well as ready with great advise. Most important for me is the restorative pleasure I get when down there it's so peaceful, as well as thenpkeasure in seeing and eating my organic food. Everyone is so friendly and once our allotment gets going proper (this is our second year) we will be having more events so we can meet up and get to know each other more. Only 1 thing, but that is slowly being resolved, is the online points and shop for the android phone uses.

It’s been a great experience at Roots at Sugar Loaf, patch manager Dave is an absolute legend.

Amazing allotment and app
Amazing allotment and app, I can access what I need with ease, very friendly community always willing to help, highly recommend, even for new growers like me
Great for families.
I absolutely love my plots at Roots. I had been on the council waiting list for over 5 years so when the new site was set up so I jumped at the chance to get a plot. I can honestly say it's changed my life. The events are great and my 11 year old son can come along and be a part of it all. The company as a whole seems to really care about what it's members need and are always looking for new things to do to improve the experience.
I’ve had such a positive experience…
I’ve had such a positive experience with Roots Allotments and it’s genuinely made a difference to my wellbeing. Spending time there has had such a calming and restorative effect on my mental health — it’s become a space where I can switch off from the pressures of everyday life and reconnect with something simple and grounding.
There’s something incredibly rewarding about watching everything grow and evolve with the seasons. Every visit feels different, and seeing the progress from tiny seeds to thriving plants brings a real sense of achievement and joy.
What makes it even more special is the sense of community. It’s not just about growing food — it’s about being part of something shared. People are supportive, friendly, and welcoming, and it really feels like everyone looks out for each other.
I also really appreciate how the team genuinely listens to our voices and feedback. It makes you feel valued and part of shaping the space, not just using it. That sense of being heard adds so much to the overall experience.
Overall, it’s become much more than an allotment to me — it’s a place of wellbeing, connection, and calm.
I took on a small plot at Roots…
I took on a small plot at Roots Allotment in Houghton-le-Spring as a means to growing my own vegetables. I had never done it before so it was with a little trepidation - however, Catherine, the site manager, was on hand and she calmed my nerves and explained that many other plot holders were in the same boat, being beginners.
Having confirmed my membership I was give a goody bag including: - seeds, a trowel and a guide.
I weeded my 'No Dig' plot and enjoyed the fact I was outside in the fresh air.
At the time of joining the site had numerous plug plants available for members, this enabled me to get planting without having to wait for seeds to germinate.
Move forward a couple of months I was able to use some of the crops like lettuce, kohlrabi etc, it gave me the encouragement to grow different vegetables to try.
I am almost a year in, and into the new growing season and I am looking forward to planting out seedlings that I have grown from seeds that were supplied by Roots.
I have had some great discussions with other members and I know new friends too. I am looking forward to the socials that are in the pipeline and to more learning to be more self sufficient.
The experience has given space not only to grow crops but also a safe space for my mind to breath.
I absolutely love my Roots allotment
I absolutely love my Roots allotment! The grow patches are ideal for someone like me - no heavy digging/lifting/construction to do. Equipment is supplied and the support is excellent. Our patch manager Catherine is always on hand to offer advice and answer my endless questions. A good selection of seeds and plug plants are supplied as part of the membership. Very happy!
Nottingham Ruddington is a great…
Nottingham Ruddington is a great community. Generous seeds are provided every year along with all the tools. Share shelves and a bee bank in the process. Its great to be apart of a no chemical and dig site so all our veg is organic 😊
So worth it!
We got a plot last year so we can get our toddler involved in something outdoors and we all love it now. Roots genuinely cares about their members, as well as the surrounding environment and wildlife. Yes it’s a monthly fee, but the amount included for that monthly fee is astronomical. Seeds, plug plants, never ending courses and support to give you the best start, shared tools available for all, and the loveliest community to hand at all times. Couldn’t recommend enough.

Fantastic company that really help the inexperienced
Really disappointed ☹️
Roots have released expensive patches before they were fully prepared. No water available and serious drainage issues with zero accessibility for people with mobility issues. Flooding around all plots. I had a plot from October through until April and was only able to visit the patch once. Waste of money and time. Nice idea but not realistic. I’ve gone from paying £34.99 a month to £30 for a year at a council patch 3 times the size with running water and a fab community. The roots patch is Muxton Meadows. - Just want to add, the community and Patch Manager Loz are fantastic and it’s a great group of people. My review is of the business.
