Toptal Did A Wonderful Job
Toptal did a wonderful job. They interviewed me and asked questions about my company to narrow down employee choices so I wasn't bogged down interviewing countless people till I found the right one. The employee I chose was professional, highly skilled, and a perfect fit for what I needed. Toptal was also there every step of the way for any questions I had and other help I needed. I will definitely be contacting them first as more positions open within my company.
This company is a scam
This company is a scam. You will go through their very convincing website and fill out a form. Someone from Toptal will will then call you and run through a few things. They will then ask you for a $500 dollar security deposit for absolutely no reason. The woman said that this would be applied to my first invoice. What is the need to charge $500 upfront? Hopefully someone can shed some light

Great Communicator
Bruno really listened to what I needed which, apart from a talented NLP/ ML coder, was a great communicator. He found Karim on the first go who listened to what we needed for the project, came up with creative solutions, and delivered beyond what we had hoped for. Karim never once made me feel that my lack of knowledge in his field was ever a problem. He paid attention to how we wished for our prototype to work and made what we wanted, rather than what was easiest for him and he did so within our budget and time frame. It was a joy working with him. We could not be happier.

Simply The Best Next Level Talent Source Available
I work with multi-billion dollar private equity platforms and needed talent that had a wealth of deal valuation, deal structure/tax and negotiation experience. I was selling a very complex multi-surgeon medical practice inclusive of ambulatory surgery center assets. There were over 9 different legal entities to manage through and the quality of earnings process took nearly 4 months. Without the help of my TopTal recruit, there was "0" chance that my 8-figure deal would have closed. If you are in need of next-level talent and want well (pre) qualified candidates without wading through countless unqualified resumes like you find on Indeed.com then TopTal is your source. I cannot recommend them enough and will be using them for some time to come.

Toptal provided a very professional and friendly service.
Even though our request was pretty specific (algorithm expert with specific expertise), Toptal acted swiftly and effectively.
The entire hiring process is very smart and fair - offering interview and free trial.
Actually, the first candidate Toptal has offered was good, but not good enough, so after our feedback, Toptal adjusted their search and found an amazing fit from the second attempt (obviously not charging anything for the first attempt)
100% of our needs were met - the candidate (whom we actually hired) did his work very thoroughly and quickly.
Both the hired person and Toptal staff were very responsive during the entire process (including the start, the break we needed in the middle and termination)
We'll most likely use Toptal's services again

Good experience despite not working out
Our company has used Toptal before to find developers with great satisfaction. This time we were looking for a designer, and Toptal was excellent to work with. The team members we interacted with have been friendly, professional, and helpful. The talent we hired ended up not being a good fit for us, but thanks to Toptal's trial period, we were able to have no loss other than our time. The Toptal process is responsive and effective. Working with top talent saved me a lot of time and money in the long run. There are a couple of reasons for this. 1) I had an experienced team at Toptal supporting my matching process and listening to my requirements. 2) I was able to work with my talent part-time and he was held accountable for his performance and responsiveness. 3) The quality of work was higher than I could ever have achieved with another platform (like Upwork).
Overall, I had a fantastic experience with Toptal and I will definitely use their services in the future.

Toptal is a great way to connect with talent. Our startup was able to meet with a variety of talented experts and they were able to take the worry out of the technical aspects of our app. Also, Toptal also has a robust group of project managers, our project manager went above and beyond to understand every aspect of our brand and was transparent about what it would take to bring our vision to life and get us to Beta.

Can't help you unless you already have software and project managers and lots of technical data documented. We explained we wanted to built an app from the ground up and apparently this out out of their purview...Not sure what the point is, but they seem only helpful for corporations and not start-ups.
Edit: After receiving an email and the below reply about this review, let me provide for others reading the transparency not provided by this company on their website, our emails, or our phone calls—their minimum budget to work with you is $100,000. That is perfectly fine. Their business model is big potatoes. But they strung me along and wasted my time by asking my budget first (a guess as to what this simple project should cost), and then went on to play 20 questions knowing they wouldn’t build this app. In the end, they vaguely referred me to find a “software specialist” to develop a bunch of stuff I obviously didn’t need. Now they’re trying to get me to use their in house “project” services to balloon the costs. It’s clear we are not a good match, and that’s fine.
They could have simply said the budget or simplicity of the project was an issue before all this back and forth. Waste of everyone’s time.
Bottom line -my review stands. Ignore their marketing. They are not for small start-ups, only for corporations and venture-backed start-ups with very large budgets. But that is not what their website illustrates, and it’s not what they’ll tell you until you leave a negative review.

I used toptal for some PHP development and developer provided was very honest and talented. They really do screen and filter out top talent. Per hour costing is always a concern with Toptal but that is what you get with flexibility to pause and play services any time.
Toptal should offer highly discounted pricing for long term confirmed agreement which will be a win-win-win for developer, client and toptal.
