Thieves

I ordered online and did not receive all the items I ordered. I have no trust in Albert Heijn now. Thieves.

they give me a bonus option

they give me a bonus option, and when i try to make the purchase, they are always out of stock. but! if i select a further date where the bonus ends, i can make the purchase no problem, stock is in. very very shady business, just trying to trick consumers all the time. i'm very tired of ah being a sort of monopoly here, try and buy from local shops instead, at least they're honest.

Racist to the core

Racist bunch of crooks. I shopped at another supermarket and walked into the Westwijk AH. After having scanned my articles, and having not received any "steekproef" requests, I was about to walk out.
Suddenly this extremely rude Surimanese woman starts questioning if I have other shopping, and then asking to see proof. Now, I'm absolutely fine with this, and since I did have the receipt, I showed it to her.
However at this point of time, I saw 3 White, Blonde customers walk out with bag full of shopping from other stores, and this woman raises no checks.
When i accused her of racism, her attitude was almost like " what is this expat going to do". When I became agitated, she threatened to call the police. I then demanded to see the manager, who thankfully was very polite.
For a supermarket that is at least 30% more expensive, to have rude, arrogant and pathetic customer service is just the pits.
If you are a person of color, be very careful.

I had a very disappointing experience…

I had a very disappointing experience with Albert Heijn customer service today. I was speaking English on the phone, and instead of trying to help me or transferring me to someone who could communicate in English, the employee simply hung up on me.
This is extremely rude and unprofessional, especially in an international country like the Netherlands where many expats, tourists, and international workers live and shop every day. Basic respect and communication should be expected from a major supermarket chain.
I understand not every employee speaks fluent English, but hanging up on a customer is unacceptable. Companies like Albert Heijn should make sure there is at least someone available who can assist international customers respectfully.
Very disappointed by the behavior and lack of manners.

visit this store about once a week

visit this store about once a week, and unfortunately my experience has been consistently negative. Every time I wear a cap or hat, I’m singled out at self-checkout and asked for extra checks, while others around me are not. After observing this pattern for over a year, it feels discriminatory and unfair.

The store itself is often crowded, shelves are sometimes missing products, and the overall service is quite slow. Staff are not particularly friendly, which adds to the uncomfortable atmosphere.

What bothers me most is the repeated feeling of being treated with suspicion for no clear reason. Shopping should not make customers feel judged or singled out.

If you value a comfortable and respectful shopping experience, you may want to consider other stores.

AH Overtoom 116 Amsterdam - Bottle Machines Constantly Out Of Order

AH Overtoom 116 store in Amsterdam, next to the VondelPark has a constant problem with the bottle machines because the employees are keeping them off most of the time.

Sometimes, when they notice people with empty bottles, they turn them off intentionally.

That's a very bad practice.

They should have more respect for their customers. Most AH stores have a professional workforce, but this one, including a couple of others is not in that group.

I am currently out of time, but I already contacted the customer support regarding some other problem in AH store in the neighborhood and will possibly compose a detailed review about a very serious issues in those few AH stores that will be published elsewhere too.

Inconsistent and potentially discriminatory exit checks at Albert Heijn XL Tilburg

I am a foreign resident living in the Netherlands, and I have an olive skin tone. I am a regular customer at Albert Heijn XL in Tilburg, and I’ve repeatedly experienced an issue that I find both frustrating and concerning.
When I use the self-checkout to purchase a crate of beer, I am sometimes selected for a random check at the register, which is understandable. However, regardless of whether I have already been checked or not, I am consistently stopped again at the exit and asked to show my receipt.
Staff have told me that this rule applies to everyone who purchases a crate of beer via self-checkout. However, in practice, this is clearly not the case. I have personally observed many customers purchasing a crate of beer via self-checkout who are not stopped at the exit, while I am consistently singled out. I do not experience this when I shop with my partner or friends who do not have an olive skin tone.
This creates a strong impression that the checks are not applied consistently, but selectively. Given my background and appearance, this raises serious concerns about discrimination based on appearance.
If this is truly a general rule, then your system should reflect that. A simple and fair solution would be to adjust the random check algorithm so that every customer who purchases a crate of beer via self-checkout is checked at the register, and once verified, no additional check is carried out at the exit.
The current approach is inconsistent, intrusive, and feels targeted.
If this continues, I will reconsider shopping at Albert Heijn and may escalate the matter through formal complaint and legal channels.
I expect Albert Heijn to either apply this rule consistently to all customers or implement a clear and fair system that eliminates arbitrary and repeated checks.

Bought product way over due date

Bought a product that was already 4 months past its expiration date.

Customer service took 5 days to respond and then offered no solution, only telling me to return to the store – which is not possible as I live in Germany.

For a mistake clearly on their side, I expected a more customer-friendly and practical solution. Unfortunately, this was not the case.
This experience shows a lack of quality control and poor customer service.

Bought L/XL eggs by paying more and shocked seeing what is inside box 😔
Mix of small medium eggs.
AH fools people.
Even if 1 person paying 20 cents extra, imagine how much AH is earning from the whole population. I have always thought that European countries are consumer friendly and they take actions for such Quality issues.
Very disappointed 😞

I have been a loyal Albert Heijn…

I have been a loyal Albert Heijn customer for years, spending roughly €6,000–€7,000 annually at this store. Unfortunately, that loyalty seems to mean very little when life happens.
I recently missed my pickup timeslot due to unexpected circumstances. Instead of offering a customer-friendly solution—such as allowing me to pick up the groceries the next day—AH simply charged me a steep €25 penalty fee.
I understand logistics are complex, but a €25 fine for a loyal customer is excessive and feels punitive. A simple reschedule would have saved the sale and the customer relationship. Instead, I’m left out of pocket and feeling undervalued. I expect better flexibility from a premium supermarket.

Self check out

The only cashier at my local AH in Eerste van Swindenstraat in Amsterdam Oost, is closed 9 times out of 10 at any time of the day.
That forces me to scan the products myself meaning I have to do work that should be done by staff.
On top of that, frequent control checks waste even more time and with the the added risk of being fined if an honest mistake is made.

This setup is inefficient and customer-unfriendly.

Communication is difficult

They normally do there job good. But because of the Snow ( I think ), the order was canceled. But that was only visible on my bank account. because the money was returned. But they didn't send any message, that it was canceled.

Something wrong

The staff have become really rude; I don't know what's going on. In the 11 years I've been going there, everyone was nice, but now they're like animals... What's going on? The boss is probably crazy. I've known those girls for over 7 years, and they were all nice. Now they're all aggressive, constantly rummaging through my bag, looking for stolen goods. 06.11.2025 But it's the Dutch who are stealing; I see them every day.
