Upsetting stay
Had a pretty awful experience with Rose cottage on the Llamellen estate in Cornwall that I booked through this company. The cottage was not as described, very dated, unsafe for children and wasps everywhere! Must have nests in the loft. The owner of the cottage was also extremely rude.
Before I could get around to complaining myself, Jenna the office manager had written a very upsetting email to my parents (who we went with) containing lots of untrue facts from the owner (without hearing from us first) and banning them from ever using their site again!….No problem…never will again anyway!
We made our booking earlier in the week…
We made our booking earlier in the week and was looking forward to visiting, unfortunately one of my children has hurt themselves and we therefore called to try and cancel.
We was hoping to speak to someone who has empathy towards our situation and would allow us to get a refund and then return home. What we was met with was a lady who just quoted us terms and conditions and advised that we are not allowed to cancel as this is a business, very cold. After pointing out that we was unhappy with this situation we was HUNG UP on and advised not to call back as there is nothing they could do. Not one person advised that they was sorry to hear that one of our children was hurt, it was very cold & calculated...they seem to be well versed in dealing with customers in this situation.
In addition to this, it took 20 phone calls before being able to get through to someone as only one person works there.
Just be aware as well that the fee advertised on the website is not the total cost, they will also quote you a £75 admin fee as well as a £250 deposit that you have to pay....again they will advise you that this is on small print on the website.
Overall we are extremely disappointed in this company and will be never using again.
Pol Glas Cabin
We arrived at Pol Glas Cabin on the 10th October 2021, we had booked this stay as an extra present for my husband’s birthday on the 10th October!
When we arrived and opened the curtains it was full of cobwebs with midges and dead flies, they had also made no attempt to get the live flies out. We were told by the owner that there was a fly problem due to the time of year so why was there no fly spray left? I had to hoover around the windows to get rid of the dead insects and the cobwebs that were also on the cabin walls, we then decided to leave the problems until Monday and enjoy my husband’s birthday as planned with a glass of wine in the hot tub. The hot tub was half full and cold, apparently they had run out of well water! Someone could have let us know or even left a note, this was when we contacted Levi (no answer) then Cornwall Cottages.
The owner arrived and I basically got told it was not her fault it was the cleaning companies and we could contact them and leave a review! I did look on the cleaning website and the welcome pack they left us was not what they advertised, when I saw the cleaners the following Sunday they were in and out of the property next door within half an hour, not the full clean you would expect in Covid times when cases are very high in cornwall! This is probably why the people who stayed the week before us also left a negative review regarding the cleanliness of the cabin. Fiona did get the cleaners back the next day which to be fair was useless because they just went down a list I made they didn’t actually see how mucky it was and clean it, also I should not have been writing a list for a cleaner on OUR holiday,
Here is the list I had to leave for a "professional" cleaning company:
Dust on extractor
Mucky skirting boards
Back of sofa where the cusion meets the back of sofa full of crumbs
Dog hair, dust and muck under sofa (clearly not been moved) we moved this because its a 40 inch tv and you are sat 4 foot from it on sofa.
Pillows full of dog hairs
Patio had not been swept it was full of dead insects and leaves
Wall and skirting behind the bin were mucky (clearly not been moved)
Behind bread bin all dust along worktop lip (clearly not been moved)
Bed frame was thick with dust
Broken blind
Curtains hanging off
List after the "professional" cleaning company had been and gone for second time:
Hot tub looked mucky, also had a grimy feeling to it by time the second week come and a scum round the water rim (no one checked the hot tub entire time we were there) so barely used it.
Door in bathroom full of dust
Extractor in bathroom thick with dust/webs
Door frames mucky
shower plug blocked and kept flooding
Also they do not advise the parking is nowhere near the actual cabin, we had to carry all our stuff for the 2 weeks 40 yards with the last 15 yards having no path only gravel, this would have been hell had we been an elderly couple.
I think a proper apology while we were there and maybe a bottle of wine would have been nice from Fiona to show she was sorry but it just felt like it was not her problem, well to be honest I don’t care who’s problem it is all I know is it was not ours! If she had not been away with her mum for a holiday I would have dealt direct with her but felt this was unfair on her mum who was down for a break, so I contacted cornwall cottages when we got back and they think it was dealt with and ok as per their terms and conditions even though i provided pictures of this! DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE! but if you do it as nice views and a comfy bed that is about only positives I have.
Cornwall Cottages disappointed us
On arrival at Honey suckle cottage booked through cornwalls cottages in Sept2021 we thought it was beautiful and a welcome bottle of wine was lovely. However we went to make some lunch and found the dishes dirty with baked beans stuck on them so had to wash them.
The cottage had clearly been partially cleaned and worktops and most used surfaces were spotless but as we unpacked we noticed the sofa was covered in dust and there were cobwebs and dust all over the fridge and on most other surfaces in most rooms so the cottage felt dirty.
We couldn't sit in the living room as the smell of wood smoke in the room was overpowering even once we opened the windows so we sat outside. One of the sun loungers we sat on collapsed as the fabric tore hurting my fiancee wrist as she fell through it. She is not a heavy person.
We decided to go for a walk to 'potter along the river Allen and hopefully glimpse otters salmon and trout' like the holiday headline described but couldn't find it as there were no maps or directions at the cottage.
We rang Lara the housekeeper who told us that log burners smell smokey. its normal and blamed the previous guests. As I own and use a log burner I was surprised the housekeeper had left the windows closed and didnt know to ventilate the room after a guest had clearly filled the room with smoke.
Lara also told us that the Allen Valley path was closed and had been unavailable for some time due to it now being a pheasant shoot and dangerous for visitors to walk along which she had informed Cornwall cottages of so it shouldn't be on the advert.
Honeysuckle cottage was supposed to be a peaceful retreat for our holiday but had been the opposite so after 1 afternoon and very upset with my fiancee having a seizure we decided to leave and told Lara who kindly offered us a refund.
On Monday we contacted Cornwalls cottages to discuss our refund and sadly found this very difficult. After several days of lengthy emails and chasing unreturned calls we received a partial refund for about a third the cost which was far less than our loss.
What upset us most was the communication from Cornwall cottages where we were told not to have expected a 'manicured' landscape in rugged Cornwall and that our 'expectations' should have been agreed prior to arrival.
I work as a countryside ranger managing paths and I grew up in Cornwall so we were insulted at being told we were expecting a manicured landscape when we were not. After a covid pandemic we dont think cleanliness should be agreed prior to arrival so were deeply offended. Looking at past reviews we see other visitors have complained about cleanliness before. We expected cleanliness after a pandemic to be a priority not haphazard
Despite us pointing it out repeatedly the advert for this cottage still describes visitors being able to potter along the Allen valley hopefully glimpse salmon trout and otter despite the path being overgrown, closed and a pheasant shoot.
So we wouldn't recommend Cornwall cottages and Honeysuckle cottage.
Highly recommended
I used this company at the last minute to find a cottage, and they came up trumps. I will say we had a few issues, but they did respond to us and did resolve the issues. You may ask, not five stars? Well, one of the issues was historical, and the visiting engineer admitted as much. The rush of visitors to the area stretched them to the total capacity. It was a suitable property, and we had a wonderful relaxing holiday. I know problems arise, but if they offer a solution, I am happy, so it is FIVE STARS from me.
I recommend them and would use them again.
Awful customer service, would not recommend
Appalling customer service. This company tried to retain our security deposit without good cause & we had to incur costs to defend our position. Seems from the comments below that this is not the first time this company have tried this tactic!
Our complaint has not been acknowledged or even dealt with & instead of apologising for their error, they continued to argue with us, in an unprofessional tone & manner.

As an owner I have always found Cornwall’s Cottages to be extremely professional and helpful. It has been a difficult year but they have always been cheerful and positive as well as providing regular updates and advice. I soley use them as my booking agents and would highly recommend them to any owners who wish to let their property.

We started renting our property with Cornwalls Cottages last year and have had an excellent experience. They have made the process of letting our house very easy and hassle free. They are very responsive by email and always available by phone. Any queries with customers have been dealt with swiftly and efficiently, especially during Covid where they have worked so hard in extremely challenging times. Would highly recommend them.

Utter robbers. Avoid.
Never had any trouble ever when staying in holiday cottages. Visited July 2019. Left the place immaculate. They told us they were taking our security deposit of £200 and they did. Went through a simple small claim process through the government website. Attended my local court 17/1/2020 and the judge said it was a joke and ordered in my favour. Absolute piece of cake. They put up zero resistance because they knew they didn’t have a leg to stand on and were just trying it on. If they do this to you just go through the courts. You will win because they make stuff up to cheat holiday makers. Received my money back plus court costs and car parking. Chose the wrong person to mess with this time. Will never ever use again. Utter robbers. Can’t wait to see a response to them losing in court after evidence and statements...
Holiday Letting
When we decided to rent our holiday home we were impressed by the friendly, helpful & professional team @ C.C. Bookings are straight forward & there is no restriction on owner bookings. In the relatively short time we have been renting we already have several guests returning on a regular basis. We have also had the guest from hell who demanded compensation for her holiday with four dogs. The team were very supportive in dealing with her which we appreciated at the time. Payments are made on time & on a regular basis. We have no hesitation in recommending C.C to owners considering holiday letting.

Improved bookings and very efficient service
We switched our holiday cottages to Cornwall's Cottages from another agency because we were getting fewer bookings year on year. CC have increased our bookings in the first year and we have had good customer satisfaction both with our cottages and the ease of booking, information provided etc by CC.
We find the staff at CC very helpful and efficient. No complaints at all after our first year with them.

Good fair priced agency for your bookings.
Cornwalls cottages have always been good for our business and very reasonably priced as against other agencies. They are a local company based in Truro and seem to have got the cottage pricing for various times of the year down to a fine art. The staff are always easy to reach and very pleasant and helpful if you have any queries regarding bookings. We would strongly recommend to anyone in the Cornwall area looking for a good professional company to handle bookings.

Cornwall's Cottages have a great technology platform which means that bookings, including owner bookings, are well-run, and the properties are presented to advantage. They are responsive on email and proactive in their marketing. They try to strike a balance in issues arising to make sure the interests of both owner and renter are respected. We are very happy to be working with them.

We’ve been with Cornwall’s Cottages for a few years now and they’ve been brilliant. Really helpful, friendly service and takes the weight off my mind of having to manage the bookings myself.

3rd season and very happy indeed.
This will be my third season with Cornwalls cottages and basically they do what they say on the tin (good Cornish mineral that) that is, they summer let my property successfully with the minimum of fuss and bother. They're always exceedingly helpful when I do have cause to call and their online owners area is simple and reliable. Ideal!
