Reserved vehicle was not available. Substituted vehicle was not full of gas.

Even though my plane was late, they still did not have a car ready for me. Had to wait 30 minutes. This is the second time the Tallahassee location had no car available for me when I arrived for a pre-paid rental. Very bad business.

A major dislike is i booked a hybrid a week and a half in advance. Was given a suv when i arrived. I was told there are no hybrid ls available. Then gave me a small gas engine car. Why do you bothrr offering hybrid when you have none.

I had a leaky tire problem, No spare, no answer from road service. Returned TWICE to airport for a substitute vehicle only to be turned away both times and the Sunday morning desk attendant got rude and turned her back and walked away to the office.

The counter agent was awesome.

My first car had electrical issues with perpetual error lights and a turn signal that did not consistently work. I had to file a complaint and obtain another car. The new car was safe but smelled like marijuana. The people I talked to were nice and tried to help. I ultimately returned the car and rented with another company. Worst Hertz experience I have ever had.

Unfortunately, I had a very disappointing experience with Hertz from start to finish.

Booking online was more of a hassle than it should have been, and when we arrived, we were given a different vehicle than the one we had selected online. The replacement vehicle itself was fine, and we were told it would be at the same rate, but the overall experience went downhill from there.

Also, be aware of the deposit requirement. We were required to put down a $500 deposit when using a debit card, compared with $200 when using a credit card. We were told this was part of the terms/fine print, but I could not find this clearly disclosed while booking through the app or online. Finding out about a $500 hold when you’re standing at the rental counter is not something you want to be surprised with, so keep that in mind if you’re planning to use a debit card.

When we returned the vehicle to the airport, we were then hit with additional charges, including gas-related fees and other unexpected fees. In total, we ended up paying roughly an additional $140 at drop-off, which was extremely frustrating.

What made the situation worse was the customer service. The employee we dealt with came across as dismissive and condescending and didn’t seem interested in addressing our concerns or explaining the charges in a helpful way. As a young couple renting a vehicle for a trip, we left feeling like our concerns didn’t matter nearly as much as collecting additional fees.

The vehicle itself did its job, but the poor customer service, frustrating booking process, deposit surprise, unexpected charges, and overall experience outweighed that positive.

Based on my experience, I would recommend looking into other rental companies before choosing Hertz. I personally won’t be using them again.
