I’m sharing this review as someone who has worked in the insurance industry for the past 15 years and understands policy and claims management processes—particularly claims lodgement.
Unfortunately, my experience with Iris Global (the underwriter for my Heymondo annual travel insurance policy) has been EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING. I purchased the annual policy and deliberately selected multiple add-ons (higher cover, electronics cover, and additional sports cover) because I understand the importance of adequate protection. However, the true measure of an insurer is how they handle claims—and in my case, the claims process has been poor.
During my trip between December 2025 and January 2026, I had two incidents:
Claim 1 – Missed connection / overnight expenses (Santiago, Chile):
I missed my connecting flight from Santiago, Chile to Porto Alegre, Brazil and was required to stay overnight in Santiago. I incurred reasonable expenses for accommodation, meals, and incidentals. The delay was well over 12 hours (close to 24 hours), and I understand I am entitled to reimbursement under the policy.
Claim 2 – Lost luggage (Viracopos, Brazil to Lisbon, Portugal):
On my flight from Viracopos, Brazil to Lisbon, Portugal, my luggage was lost. As a result, I had to purchase essential clothing and basic items while waiting for my baggage to be located and returned.
Despite providing the requested information, Iris Global has declined my claims, relying on explanations that I consider inconsistent and difficult to justify. I have also had to resend documents multiple times, and I have not received timely responses when requesting status updates. Overall, the customer service experience has been poor and frustrating.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this insurer. If you want confidence that claims will be handled fairly and efficiently, I would STRONGLY suggest considering an alternative provider.

I have submitted my claim av-2112956 for reimbursement of my expenses due to trip cancellation due to hospitalization, having purchased insurance from heymondo.
It has been 4 months since I submitted all the required documents and they still have not responded to my emails and the only two times they responded to me, they asked for documents that I had already sent them.
send them emails daily asking them to inform me about my compensation, notifying my contact and my lawyer.
I will now take legal action, also asking for my lawyers' fees
stay away from this company!!

The worst insurance company ever experienced.
I did a travel insurance with my partner, they took so much time to even analize the case and then one day they asked her for the iban without even mentioning which solution they decided, which amount was gonna be refunded and why.
She gave the iban and it took more than 1 month to get the money because in the meanwhile they told her the transfer had been done but it wasn’t true.
She had to send so many emails to receive a miserable compensation. Probably they were hoping that she’d give up and forget about the money.

It took me ages to get my money back, I had to call and send tons of emails to which they didn't even reply. Eventually they told me they did the transfer and then I checked with my bank and no transfer had been made. And it became really frustrating...after many other emails they finally did it but whatever, never again.

I should have heeded the warnings from other reviews but made the mistake of trusting IRIS Global. My experience proves they systematically deny valid claims by inventing requirements that don't exist in their policies or under Spanish law.
After my iPhone was pickpocketed (a clear crime under Spanish Penal Code Art. 235), they denied my claim by falsely requiring "physical violence" - a condition nowhere in my policy documents.
This violates their own contract wording which simply covers "theft".
-Basic legal definitions (theft with violence is robbery under Art. 237)
The most outrageous part? These exclusions:
- Were never disclosed when I purchased the policy
- Don't appear in any certificate or receipt
- Were only revealed after I filed my claim
Despite providing a police report and legal evidence, they still withheld both the theft coverage and emergency funds, abandoning me in a vulnerable position, even after knowing of my desperate position.
Their team is also insanely unhelpful. They can't answer any questions on the phone , like they have never been trained for this job, and their emails replies are : sorry, there's nothing I can do. One lady called Raquel (I think- don't wanna slander anyone), simply cut the phone while I was crying basically saying " ah sorry I gotta go there's nothing I can do".
This is the most rubbish insurance I've ever heard of, it's simply fraud at this point. I don't advise anyone to purchase with them.

Irresponsible let down by this company
I was doing a trek in Ladakh and developed a life threatening urinary problem that blocked the urine. They did not check on my while I was hospitalized at the Leh public Hospital. I asked the local Urologist if he had received any phone call from irisglobal team, and he said no. I asked the Urologist to fix me well enough to return to my country. I asked irisglobal to do a follow up during 12 hours my stop over at Delhi airport, they tell me the that irisglobal doctors assured I was OK to travel without contact me or contact the Urologist in Leh.
Really disappointed with this company, thanks to the Indian public Health budget I am at home.
It is worth noting that irisglobal was informed of my situation because every day a hospital report was sent the same day. Thus, they were informed that it took me 3 days to be admitted to the hospital, but irisglobal did not think the situation was serious.
There are daily flights to Leh from New Delhi, so a transfer to a better equipped hospital in Delhi or a guide to sort out the bureaucratic procedures at the hospital would have facilitated my admission with less stress.
Today 16/10/2024. I have received a replay of irisglobal they reimburse 38,41 €. They do not say why this quantity or why not the total price of the insurance police because it was not useful.
Also, they do not say what kind of investigation have done nor if they find any irregularity. And of course not an apology to be seen.
If irisglobal is not ashamed of its pathetic service and excuses, allow me to be ashamed of your lack of professionalism.
