Initially had a free good phone…

Initially had a free good phone conversation with them about a possible substantial six figure financial claim against the vale of glamorgan council, for an ‘abuse of process’ claim.

Since then there have been further developments about my potential claim.

I booked a further telephone call with James Murray Solicitors, to discuss and update them.

They failed to ring me on the arranged day and time. Subsequently I arranged a second call, they failed to call me. I called them. I was told the solicitor was in a meeting shouldn’t be long. They never called me back.

Third attempt I booked for last last Thursday. What happened? Nothing. For the third time they failed me. No apologies no call from a secretary to say sorry or to re book, all left to me to chase.

Why do many solicitors, hold out hope to clients, arrange telephone calls and then completely fail to work with the individual.

Very disappointed in James Murray Law I was very optimistic of a good successful working relationship in the start. As I say the solicitor was very attentive during our initial telephone conversation.

If they do not have sufficient capacity why bother leading people on?

I sent them a copy of this Review on 2nd May 2026 saying how I felt and, to see if they had a response, before I posted it, nothing I have heard nothing from them.

Disgusted - avoid this firm's incompetent liars

As others have said, Mr Elliot Smallshaw (who has since left in 2025) and the partner Mr Lee Massingham are not competent solicitors. They lie to you, they refuse to answer phone calls and emails, they miss crucial deadlines for filing cases at the court, they fail to get your case assessed by a barrister for years, and worst of all, they repeatedly accuse you of lying because they take what the other side says at face-value, even if you have CCTV or mobile phone footage. They are not worth anyone's time, they will destroy any case you have by their inability to meet the simplest of deadlines or carry out the simplest of tasks expected of a solicitor. Tell them to get disclosure and provide it to you? Forget it, they will ignore you. Repeat your request a few weeks later? They will accuse you of being difficult and drop you as a client because of 'a breakdown of trust'. Complain about their service? You will be dropped immediately as a client for the same reason. They have numerous complaints outstanding against their firm at the Solicitors' Regulation Authority and Legal Ombudsman, and numerous cases of Professional Negligence they are defending in civil courts as I write this, my own included. They make up excuses for dropping your case that your opponent doesn't even rely on or plead in their defence - for example, they will say 'you have other convictions, therefore this case will not succeed in our opinion' which is simply false - courts judge cases on their merits, they don't judge other cases except the one they are doing now. I am suing them for loss of chance for £200k now, and I am going to take it all the way to court to make them apologise and compensate me.
Do NOT use this firm for anything - not for criminal defence, not for suing the police, conveyancing or anything else, unless you want to end up poorer and like being lied to by lazy, borderline-criminal frauds.

James Murray and his expert team of…

James Murray and his expert team of highly effective legal eagles are in my opinion second to none in professionalism and customer care. Our family have discovered real quality service with this Liverpool firm after a somewhat distressing incident wherein an antisocial neighbour, who had been convicted of assaulting us on the street, and vandalising my autistic son’s cars, launched a bogus counterclaim. James Murray Solicitors however were swiftly on the ball. Subsequent to a long court battle, the counterclaim against my son was duly dismissed. At each stage of the lengthy legal process James and his amicable team went far beyond the call of duty to make us feel comfortable. Moreover, they worked with us in a very constructive and persuasive fashion, which was quite refreshing. In fact, they made us feel like an intrinsic working part of their legal team and not just clients. In conclusion, we would have no problem ever recommending this brilliant law firm to our friends and family.
