I have had a wonderful experience with Rio's Moving, I have completed jobs and the customers have been ecstatic beyond measure with what that expected, we reached heights they couldn't imagine, & they won't to continue the pace for any future work needed, I definitely recommend working with this company, because the platform is stupendous, you won't regret it, as I know I haven't in these three years!!!

If I could give ZERO stars I would

If I could give ZERO stars I would. The movers came with a Uhaul Truck and two movers. They were friendly but rushed everything into the truck without properly handling any of our furniture. When the furniture arrived, I was then informed that the movers threw out the mirror from our brand-new dresser. There was no call about it. It was just thrown into our dumpster. We had deep scratches on two other dressers. Our TV was cracked and missing a leg stand. Inside you can see where the leg stand was inserted was bent. They did not refund or offer anything to show they cared. The movers were offering to buy us a used mirror from Facebook Market place. I was upset because I offered them water and Gatorade and tipped generously and was treated horribly. I would steer far from this company.

The movers had ripped clothes to the point of underwear completely showing - like entire boxers showing, they smelled of weed and one was essentially incoherent. They were not on time & thought it was funny. One of the movers could barely work a dolly so clearly had never moved stuff. I have never had this bad of an experience in my entire life moving.

Rio Movers Are Terrible at Moving Because Their Biz is Sexual Harassment

I hired Rio Moving and their mover Larry and his crew (2 other men) came over to move me from my apartment to my new home. During the move, they broke my dresser, damaged walls, and made an absolute mess. They failed to stack my things and tried to leave with
heavy furniture standing on its side and offered to come back another day and have me pay for them to put it in the correct place. The worst part came when Larry saw I had a pole in my house and asked if I "strip for men". I told him no and that pole fitness is very popular and a great workout. I explicitly said, "If I wanted to strip for dudes I'd work in a strip club and clearly I don't." The next day he sent me a text asking what other services I offer since one of his crew asked me to help build a website. I listed all of my businesses (image attached). He then asked if I do "private dances" aka strip for strangers in my home. I told him how disrespectful that was and he said it isn't inappropriate and he was just "asking a question". I asked him if I could have a refund for the $850 I paid him or if reporting his harrassment better. He then tried to blame me for his sexually harassing comment and said that I "shared" I dance so therefore asking me 2 days after the move ended if I can strip in private is totally acceptable behavior. Being asked by Larry about the pole in my house is hardly me choosing to share anything, but according to him, that makes his creepy question 2 days later okay.
Tl;dr: If you live on the east coast and want to hire Rio Moving, tell them not to send Larry (pic attached- white shirt and khaki shorts) because he's a creep.
Edit: Looks like sexual harassment is a common issue for the company at multiple locations. After a ton of bad reviews, I see they claimed they closed, yet they're still open with just a different business profile (without the bad reviews yet.) Look up Rio Moving-Arlington on Yelp.

Uncommunicative and not forthcoming about problem

I had a move set up for 6/28/25. Paid RIO a deposit, received confirmation emails from them for the date and move time of 10 am. On 6/28 at 10:15 am still no movers, call RIO and they tell me they 'are having trouble finding a U Haul truck', and ask me to give them until 1 pm. At 1:15 pm still no movers and I call RIO again. This time they admit they have not been able to reach their crew for hours, that the crew isn't responding to their calls and texts. It's one thing to have a crew that is unreliable, but given that may have been out of RIO's control, what WAS in their control was for them to be calling me and keeping me updated vs me having to call them, and for them to be honest from the beginning as to what the problem really was. Had they handled this differently, I could have possibly had time to find other movers for the day. But because they kept playing me off until 1:30 pm, it was too late to find other movers for the day. I ended up paying a premium price for last minute movers that moved me the next day. NIGHTMARE!

Rio movers Sexually harrassed my daughter

My 26 year old daughter hired them to move and the movers sexaully harrassed her. Tried to ge her to go for drinks, smoke weed and do other drugs. The movers showed up late, with no moving blankets. The estimate for a 500 square foot apt was 2 hours and they took 4 as they took their time to drg it out to make her pay more. This company is a scam. They also broke her tv and tv stand. I called the company and they would not take any responsibilty for all the issues I mentioned above. I do not even care so much about the damage, although annoying my concern is for anyone hiring them and your safety. Please whatever you do run away from using this company!!

Horrible Moving Experience Overall

I’m writing to express how deeply disappointing and frustrating my moving experience on May 31st was. I had high expectations based on our prior communications, but unfortunately, almost every aspect of the move fell short and caused me significant stress, inconvenience, and additional costs.

To begin, I informed your coordinator on May 29th that elevator reservations were required for both the move-out and move-in locations. I specifically stressed that the movers needed to arrive at 9:00 AM. However, I received a call at 9:01 AM on the day of the move, stating that no truck was available and that the move would need to be delayed. This forced me to scramble to check for alternate elevator availability at both buildings, and ultimately, I didn’t receive movers until 4:10 PM—seven hours later than planned.

Prior to the move, based on the inventory I provided, I was quoted for a 2-hour job. I chose to add an extra hour as a buffer (since similar moves in the past only took 3 hours), and I was assured that any unused time would be refunded. I paid for this in advance on Friday, May 30th, through your secured payment site.

However, on the day of the move, I was told I had to pay via Zelle instead, and that the original payment would be refunded. More frustratingly, I was then told that I would be charged for 3 hours minimum, regardless of how long the move actually took—completely contradicting what was previously agreed upon.

When the movers arrived at 4:10 PM, I reminded them that the move-out elevator reservation ended at 6 PM and the move-in elevator ended at 9 PM. Despite this, the move took an unacceptable 6 hours. I observed the movers walking slowly, taking cigarette breaks, and lingering downstairs when they thought I wasn’t around. This led to additional elevator fees on both ends and a final charge for three extra hours, which I do not believe was justified.

Additionally, there was a significant language barrier—both movers did not speak English, and I was not informed of this in advance. I went out of my way to label boxes to help them understand where things should go, but they still placed everything randomly throughout the apartment due to the lack of communication.

In the middle of the move, I asked them how much longer they expected it to take and explained my urgency, yet that’s when I was suddenly quoted an additional fee—while my items were already on the truck.

Overall, this experience was disorganized, misleading, and highly unprofessional. I will not be using your services again and will be sharing my experience with the Better Business Bureau, Trustpilot, Instagram, Google, and any other platform where potential customers can be made aware of the service I received.

I hope you take this feedback seriously to prevent similar issues for future clients

False Advertising with Rio Moving

Had Groupon for Rio and they wanted to charge additional charges that were not spelled out in Groupon fine print. They said "travel time" included the time to my location from another location even though I was paying for "Labor Only". I was not using a truck. The cost they wanted to charge for 7 steps and travel time was an additional $ 150.00 . Again, I did not need a truck and therefore, travel time is unwarranted.

Very terrible. The movers did not finish the mive and drove off with the truck. The company was begging them to come back. They were also smoke weed on the job and telling one of my neighbors ro auck their penis They make constant stop on the way to move some of the items to the next location. Thwy kept making stops to moke weed. I did not receive the service I paid for, yet I was billed the full amount. Stay away from this company.

Don't use this company

This is the worst company ever. Don't use them unless you want a lot of headaches. They said they would move me on the first then called to reschedule for the second. Which then I had to pay an extra day where I was. They cancelled on me a few hours before by email, never calling me on the first. By this time it's to late to get someone else or even a u- haul. Then 5 hours after they should of moved me I got an email to sign the contract. The only other email I got was a quote and cancellation. No calls. They are not very good at business or professional. Don't use them.

Absolutely the worst experience in…

Absolutely the worst experience in hiring movers, that I’ve ever had. This is come from someone who has moved almost every year for the past six years.

When I booked, all seemed good. Received updates and so on. I was told that it was helpful if I could bring things that I could carry downstairs (third floor walk-up), this would obviously help the movers to move faster.

So I woke up early to begin, and did about 50% of the move down the three flights. This was right around the moving window of 9-10AM. I get a call around 9:20AM from a dispatch saying that he hadn’t heard from the moving team and would be following-up. He then called back around 9:50AM saying that mover had family emergency and could no longer come, and that the next date would be Monday (today is Saturday)… this baffled me as it is the 1st, and it should be obvious that moves cannot just be rescheduled or postponed, especially so last-minute as this. I went back and forth with dispatch who although was trying to do his job, he wasn’t giving a clear yes or no to anything. Just there’s a chance that someone may be able to come sooner.

Ultimately, I canceled with Rio (beet decision ever). Fortunately a reputable moving company here in Chicago was able to come right away, so without them, I don’t know what I would’ve done as I had to be out. Likely would’ve spent hours trying to find other options or would’ve had to move myself.

I refuse to ever consider Rio for my move, and will step on a mountaintop to tell others to AVOID this company unless you want to take the risk. I would rather spend thousands with another company than to give Rio another chance.

Also - they hide bad reviews. Within their contract, they have a line where they write they don’t allow negative feedback for experiences like this… mind boggling. But I don’t care, I’ll leave reviews of my experience across all platforms to bring awareness to this.

Moving is already stressful (as we know), not being able to depend on a moving company is not worth it. There are great movers out there, Rio is bottom of the barrel.

This is a fantastic company.

Deon and the team were wonderful! I used Rio moving 7 months ago and there were other movers at that time so I was worried about Deon and his team as previous movers were great but I was wrong. They were very careful with our furniture and thoughtful/creative when moving big pieces. They were also mindful of time and did their best to move us as quickly as possible. Much appreciated.

I had an absolutely terrible experience!

I had an absolutely terrible experience with Rio Moving, and I would strongly advise anyone against using their services.

On moving day, the movers arrived an hour late. They had rented a U-Haul truck but were unable to open it, causing another 1.5-hour delay.

I was promised a two-man crew, but in the beginning, only one mover was doing all the work while the other was outside on the phone with U-Haul. This doubled the time and left my belongings sitting on the ground outside in the grass for hours.

When the second mover finally returned with a different UHAUL truck, Rio (off-site) restarted the timer immediately! I called to ask why they didn’t start the timer after all my belongings were off the ground and onto the truck—since their mistake caused double the work, doubling my payment! Their response? “It shouldn’t take the movers that long.” They insisted that the timer starts the moment the movers touch my belongings—regardless of the delays. He said he gave me a 10 minute credit for th delay!

Once the movers realized everything in my apartment was already broken down, they intentionally slowed down, smoking, laughing, and chatting in the truck—leaning on my furniture! The process of just packing my furniture into the truck alone took over three hours.

When they finally got the truck open, they had to reload everything from the ground, further delaying the move.

On the way to the storage unit, Rio called me and charged me an extra $125 for going over the scheduled time. Despite this being entirely their fault.

At the storage unit, they carelessly threw my furniture inside, breaking my living room set, the compartment to my arm rest of my chairs—which I didn’t notice until after they had left.

To make matters worse, after the stuffed my storage, Rio called to charge me another $125, claiming they went 15-20 minutes over their time, even though the delays were completely on them.

In total, I was charged over $700, and they kept my $49 reservation fee, even though my contract clearly stated it would go toward my total balance. When I called Rio about this, he flat-out denied ever saying that—even though I had it in writing in my email reservation/contract!

The entire move took 7 hours, when it should have been a straightforward job. As a single parent, I work hard for my money!

This company is unprofessional, dishonest, and reckless with people’s belongings. I am in the process of filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, The State Attorney General's Office, and The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Companies need to stop treating customers, that give them business, any kind of way and need to be held accountable. I hope no one else falls victim to their deceptive business practices.

Avoid Rio Moving at all costs!

WARNING: UNETHICAL BUSINESS PRACTICES, OVERCHARGING, AND PROPERTY DAMAGED DURING MOVE

I feel compelled to share my experience with Rio Moving, as it was far from the 5-star service they claim to provide.

TLDR; My experience with Rio Moving was nothing short of a nightmare. From their unprofessional and inefficient movers to the damage of my belongings, the exorbitant overcharging, and their unethical attempts to silence criticism, I strongly urge anyone considering Rio Moving to look elsewhere

RIO MOVING aggressively ATTACKS NEGATIVE REVIEWS by making FALSE CLAIMS - including baseless and wholly unsupported *EXTORTION* accusations - to prevent many unfavorable reviews from being posted or they flag them for Trustpilot to quickly remove them.

This is, at best, an unethical business practice customers must consider before entrusting Rio Moving to move their property. I've made *multiple* attempts to get this review posted only to have it removed by Trustpilot (never had ANY review I posted on other platforms removed) due to false claims by Rio Moving.

In Rio Moving's 'Review Reply' they assert, "This review is either an extortion attempt or has been posted by a competitor to defame our company on purpose." This appears to be an unscrupulous attempt to distance themselves from the horrific moving experience they provided us.

HOURS LATER, I received a phone call from Brad at 1:34 PM on February 12, "to discuss the avenues in regards to [my review] for one of the moves WE DID FOR YOU" [emphasis added].

THE ACTUAL MOVING EXPERIENCE:

1. Gwen and her motley crew took excessive breaks - each member took over 10 smoke or other breaks - that significantly increased the cost as the service was billed hourly.

2. Their lack of focus and organization was staggering. At one point, they attempted to leave for the destination without fully packing the bathroom and kitchen cabinets.

3. My wife and I personally witnessed Rio Moving tossing boxes to one another, showing complete disregard for our belongings.

4. The final cost was well over $500 more than the original quote for a one-bedroom apartment. Gwen specifically demanded cash payment, and I was forced to pay the remainder via cash or Cash App/Zelle.

ADDITIONAL FALSE ALLEGATIONS LEADING TO REMOVAL OF PRIOR HONEST REVIEWS

1. Rio Moving also attempted to discredit my review by stating that they *only* accept credit and debit card payments (I stated Gwen the lead mover demanded cash or Cash App/Zelle for far more than agreed).

Here is the relevant portion of an email they sent prior to the move that *REFUTES* their false claim regarding acceptable payment methods:
_________________________________________
From: Rio Moving
*** email addresses not allowed in reviews***
Date: Sat, Mar 4, 2023 at 3:03 PM
Subject: Reservation Fee Payment
To: John Galt (pseudonym)

Balance payment to be paid on the day of the move to our movers via *** CASH APP, ZELLE or CASH *** [emphasis added] once they arrive at your doorstep on the day of the move: $350.
_________________________________________

This direct contradiction exposes their dishonesty and calls into question the credibility of their other claims.

2. Rio Moving claims in their reply, "Who is Gwen?? We do not have any employee with the name Gwen."

Although Gwen may not be currently employed by Rio Moving, this doesn't mean she wasn't at time of the move. Also, they likely hire movers as CONTRACTORS, so *technically* she none of the other movers are considered employees.

Furthermore, I possess text conversations and phone logs proving Gwen's association with Rio Moving I would upload if the platform allowed.

3. Rio Moving's false extortion claim and allegation my review was "posted by a competitor to defame our company on purpose," is patently untrue. Brad from Rio Moving left a voicemail wanting to discuss a move, "we did for you" refuting yet another false claim that the review was "posted by a competitor."

Defamation only occurs when one makes untruthful statements, not ones that are true. Rio Moving's unprofessional mud-slinging is nothing more than desperate attempts to dodge accountability for disastrous moving experience they provided us.

CONCLUSION: AVOID RIO MOVING
Many of our items were damaged or broken, and the overall service was completely unprofessional. Given Rio Moving's misleading statements, untrustworthy business practices, and poor moving service, I strongly recommend against hiring Rio Moving.

Rio Moving’s conduct is a disservice to their customers and a stain on the moving industry. Do not make the same mistake I did—choose a company that values transparency, professionalism, and accountability.

NOTE: False accusations of extortion or from a competitor constitute an attack.
