Predatory Billing and Ghost Support

Look. Tried to audit our vendor expenses in Midtown and discovered this service kept billing us annually long after account cancellation. Support desks went completely dark when asked for a refund, hiding behind absurd 30-day notice clauses. Total compliance liability for any firm tracking operational costs.

Patchy performance for a critical app

When it works Dashlane is great.
But... that when is becoming less frequent!
For weeks it's not worked on two x Mac laptops. And I just go around in customer care circles - with scant attention to paid to what I'm writing.
This isn't a normal IT issue: being unable to access your passwords to all your websites is crippling!
Why are they not showing more urgency with something so essential?
After ten years with Dashlane I need a new password manager.

Turned Loyalty Into a Cash Grab

I never wanted Dashlane. I got stuck with it because that's the tool my clients happened to use to share login credentials with me. So I signed up for the free plan — not because I loved it, but because it was the only way to receive what I needed. That's it. That's the whole story of why I was there.

And let's be real: nobody signs up for a password manager capped at 25 entries with zero device sync just for fun. That plan only ever made sense as a landing pad for exactly my situation — professionals receiving shared credentials, not managing their own vault. Anyone doing real password management for themselves has Bitwarden, or just uses their browser's built-in save feature, which does the job for free anyway.

So when Dashlane quietly decided their free tier was too "generous," what they actually did was identify a small population of trapped professional users and squeeze them. This wasn't an accident or an oversight — it was a calculated bet that people like me, locked into using their platform because of other people's choices, wouldn't have the option to just walk away.

Now I'm paying for a service I never chose, to solve a problem I never had, because Dashlane figured out how to monetize inertia.

Meanwhile, their marketing is full of talk about trust, transparency, and putting users first. Nice branding. Shame it stops the moment there's a revenue target to hit.

35% Price Increase!

How on earth can they justify a 35% monthly price increase?? Very disappointed and simply not worth the ££. Will be looking elsewhere.

This app won't keep me logged in for 14 minutes, much less 14 days. I have to relogin multiple times a day. I waste more time on repeat logins. Totally useless. It's probably a waste of money. Don't use it.

Clumsy buggy app and predatory billing…

Clumsy buggy app and predatory billing practices with annual auto renew, with wording DEEP in their terms and conditions that cancellations must be submitted 30 days prior to renewal. Somehow worse than ADOBE.

I have come to absolutely DESPISE dashlane…

I have come to absolutely DESPISE dashlane. Currently FURIOUS with them. Absolute cowboys.

It is too expensive, and I tried closing my account ages ago only to find it was truly the most difficult thing to find out how to do. They make it this way on purpose.

I sent several emails asking how to close my account (this was never answered) AND that I was scared I was going to get charged and could they please confirm either way. Thought I’d figured it out, but I never heard back from their customer support, only to find I’ve now been charged again. I’m so upset and angry.

They are useless, and rely on stupid ai bots which are NEVER HELPFUL. I hope they see this review.

Do yourself a favour and get a free version of the same thing like Bitwarden. Dashlane are just moneygrabbers.

Customer Service

I have been using Dashlane for many years and have always been very pleased with the programme, until I had to contacr customer support. What customer support? I have had a very helpful conversation with a BOT, but trying to get a human to interact with is impossible. They just send you round and round in circles. Are they not interested in their personal customer that they no longer feel the need to contact them?

"I was very pleased with the program’s performance, though I found the cancellation process to be unnecessarily complicated."

The program itself worked great — no issues on my cell, home desktop, or work desktop.
I sold my business in May 2024, and the new owner didn't want to continue with Dashlane. I logged in and cancelled my account. Simple enough, or so I thought.
The problem: Cancelling the account does not cancel the yearly charge. I didn't notice until the second year's charge hit. When I contacted Dashlane support, I was told that without an open account, they couldn't cancel the charge — which struck me as absurd. I tried again the next day with a different rep, who emailed me a list of questions. I answered them, and about three days later got this reply:
"Our team has reviewed your request and the details you shared, and I have proceeded to cancel your plan renewal."
They added that deleting an account doesn't cancel an active subscription or stop future renewals, and confirmed I wouldn't be charged again. As for a refund, they said their Business Terms & Conditions don't allow one — and that cancellations or seat changes must be submitted at least 30 days before the renewal date, or the plan renews automatically.

Be Careful: Difficult Cancellation Process and Forced Renewal Experience

I decided to leave Dashlane Business because, in my opinion, the software is inferior to several competing password managers that offer a better overall user experience, features, and value. That was the reason I decided not to continue with the service.

The cancellation experience was the most disappointing part of my interaction with Dashlane.

When I attempted to cancel my subscription, the Admin Console did not provide a direct option to immediately cancel the service myself. Instead, the only available option was to submit a “Request cancellation” that had to be reviewed and processed by Dashlane Support. I believe customers should have a straightforward self-service option to cancel a subscription, especially for a software service.

I submitted the cancellation request because I no longer wanted to use Dashlane and clearly communicated that I did not want my subscription renewed. Despite this, support informed me that they intended to renew my subscription for another full year because I had not provided 30 days’ notice.

What I found frustrating was that the cancellation request process itself did not clearly explain that submitting the request would not necessarily cancel the subscription, and that an internal notice period could prevent cancellation. Even after I explicitly stated multiple times that I no longer wanted the service, Dashlane would not confirm that my subscription had been cancelled.

I asked Dashlane to provide copies of the renewal reminder emails they claimed were sent and the version of the Terms and Conditions they say I agreed to. They declined to provide those documents and instead asked me to rely on their assurances.

I also requested that my account and personal data—including my passwords, contact information, and payment information—be permanently deleted. Their response was that I should allow the subscription to renew for another year and only then delete my account. I found this response disappointing, especially for a company entrusted with highly sensitive password data.

Regardless of Dashlane’s interpretation of its policies, my personal experience was that the cancellation process was unnecessarily difficult and not customer-friendly. When a customer clearly communicates that they no longer want a service, the process should be simple and transparent.

Based on my experience with both the product and the cancellation process, I cannot recommend Dashlane Business. I have moved to another password manager that better fits my needs.

Freebies a better option for most

There is a lot to be frustrated with using Dashlane if you paid for a premium experience.

1) False positives. The number of times non password form fields are mistaken by Dashlane for security entries begins to grate. You cannot highlight these false positives so will get them every time on a particular site.

2) Failure to populate. Even worse, increasingly so you will have to manually copy the credentials from Dashlane and paste them into the logon fields for any site.

3) MFA. This is all about security, right? Enabling MFA on Dashlane might get you into an unexpected mess though. Seems the credentials from any authenticator app won’t work if there is no internet connection. No worries; Dashlane gives you recovery codes….. but they won’t work without an internet connection either! So, if your internet is malfunctioning and you need to log into your router, firewall, AV, whatever……….. you can’t. And since they are the most security critical parts of your system, you are not going to keep those passwords on sticky notes, except that’s what Dashlane forces you to do.

4) The group subscriptions are a mess. Not only are they confusing but the sharing functionality appears random i.e. sometimes it works, and others it doesn’t.

Security requirements have becoming increasingly more onerous in response to threats (e.g. logging into your bank). Sadly, it seems Dashlane has stood still, operating in the old days where all you had to contend with was a single landing screen and to enter a user name and password. Anything more sophisticated than that, and Dashlane can’t cope.

Small NGO denied the right to cancel contract

We are a small NGO based in Belgium - we want to leave an ongoing contract because it was too expensive for us with staff. However, we were not aware of the 30 day rule for cancellation. We notified them with 29 days notice (on a Monday morning) and they have denied us the right to cancel. Another provider is about 80% cheaper... Not impressed.

Insecure and abysmal account management

Had a family account for a few years but the auto fill feature on Android became unreliable and having go into manager to copy and paste passwords became a pain so switched last year. I forgot to delete my vault and account so recently I got an email about the account being suspended to due a security issue about 2FA which was a serious concern to begin with. Decided to request they delete my account which has taken the days to do due to their terrible process and stupid links and documentation

Mostly love the Dashlane experience - don't believe all this hate!

Mostly love the Dashlane experience - been a customer for 6/7 years and cannot understand all the negativity on here for them. Does a great job - and I mean GREAT job - of keeping all my passwords secure.

About the only niggle, and which prevents me giving 5-stars, is the fact that the autofill of payment card info in Chrome has been touch & go for around a year. Sometimes it works, on other sites, it just goes into a loop of jumping between the input fields in a fraction of a second, preventing you from completing the purchase without a page refresh and a manual input of info.

Aside from that, it's great - family membership, and we all use it and love it. I'd be LOST without it.
