Straight up false advertisement
Straight up false advertisement. Read the fine print assuming you can find the fine print. I'm in a private car with no service for 13 hours. No food. One bottle of water. Supposed to be able to Scan the QR for service, but it doesn't work, because it's not supposed to, and the staff knows it, but they can't admit it. Private car. Evidently there's a more private car somewhere maybe with service. Another bullshit false/vague advertisement. I should have known when I saw the 3 star rating. Lots of people are pissed in this car. And watch out when booking.... Make sure u get the private room u requested and paid for. The guy down the hall is pissed about that. The elderly lady has to go 17 hours with no food. Seriously. That's down right dangerous. Now I think I just heard they were coming around to take orders. 5 hours into trip. It's 11pm. Guess we will see.
No flushing toilets - public health hazard
Posted on here a few days ago about bad journey Brussels to Berlin. Now on return journey. Three hours into 14 hour journey and all toilets in at least the 6 carriages around me are not flushing. They are filling up with urine and I’m dreading tomorrow morning when they will be full to the brim with urine. The staff are just shrugging their shoulders with no attempt to fix the issue. This is a public health issue. I cannot believe this service is allowed to run. And that the two of us travellers have paid over 800 euros for this. I really admired the idea of resurrecting sleeper services across Europe but not like this.
Don't believe the haters
I read all the negative reviews and I was GENUINELY worried. I travel by train all the time, and have done a 20+ hour overnight train journey in India, so I'm prepared for the worst. But my little sister was with me, and she has almost never traveled by train. We talked about expectations before boarding. But the boarding was easy, the train car was nice and clean, the people working on the train were very attentive, and the beds were comfortable. We opened the window, and as soon as the train got moving it was nice and cool. A pleasant way to travel from Paris to Berlin, and we all got plenty of sleep. I would happily take this train again!
Friendly staff but that was about the…
Friendly staff but that was about the only positive thing about the train I was on from Prague to Utrecht.
There were limited staff members available to help at any moment and there was no clear direction as to which carriage was which and it was all a mad scramble to find your carriage before the train left. Again though, the staff members I did see were super friendly and helpful.
Paid €500+ for a private cabin for 2 people and got a dark, dingy, old, dirty cabin. The beds were clean but the room was certainly lacking.
The shared toilets were even worse than the room itself.
This service is expensive, poor value for money and
Pretty horrible
Travelled on this service from Prague to Brussels. The salient points: the water tap in our carriage was not working, the nearest toilet was blocked with the sewage spilling over. The next toilet had traces of vomit and smelled accordingly. The table stored under the shelves had spots of blood and glue. The service was practically non-existent. Thank God, we only ordered cappuccino: there was no coffee in it, instead of froth - lumps of some sticky white substance. Sounds like a horror film , right? Or a joke. Oh, the train was late: it stopped in the middle of the night somewhere in Germany and stayed there for 2 hours. No air-conditioning. I could go on, but I guess the picture is clear.
staff are lovely
staff are lovely. it was easy to book.
we pre-booked breakfast and this was great.
being in the budget cabin, its not the most comfortable but it was ok. however its quite drafty so got chilly with no blankets or pillows.
unfortunately the train got delayed overnight so we arrived at our destination 4 hours late
4 hours delay
We were a party of 4 taking the route from AMS to PRG on 8th July 2026. We booked the cheapest option, which only included seating throughout the whole trip, which was on us. I definitely recommend anyone taking such a longe route to not cheap out and to book the more expensive option with beds. Originially, the train was supposed to depart at 8 PM, but a few days before the trip, it was moved to 10 PM. Already the first delay. When we boarded the train itself, the carriage for people with only seating seemed to be from the 60s. EuroSleeper themselves advertise that they use retro carriages and modernise them, but the modernisation in ours seemed to just not exist. It was dirty, the floor definitely wasnt even sweeped, no plugs for electricity. Definitely recommend bringing in a fully charged powerbank or a book. The staff was very nice, which was good. The problems started during the night, after crossing the border into NRW, the train kept stopping and the time we stayed still was way bigger than the time we were actually moving. Thats the point where the train racked up the 3 hour delay, since we were supposed to be in Berlin at 7 AM, while at 7 AM we were still 3 hours away. There was no explanation or compensation for this delay, other than a man on the intercom stating "we have a delay of 218 minutes due to technical difficulties. We are sorry and you can order food and drinks through our menu." I dont know, if other cariages with the more expensive options were offered something, but its not very profesional in my opinion. The train journey went from promised 12 hours to 16 hours, way longer than a literal flight over an ocean... if you can take any other form of transportation and dont need it to be a train, just do it. Dont rely on the time the train is supposed to arrive at, since its very unreliable and you may miss your flight/train/whatever. If you really need this train, please take my advice and take the more expensive option with beds, I wish we would have!
What should have been an eco friendly experience turned into a nightmare
My partner and i were genuiely excoted to travel with european sleeper between brussels and berlin. Unfortunately, this was by far the worst travel experience we have ever had.
Just two days before departure, we were informed that our sleeper cabin had been downgraded to regular seats due to an issue with our carriage. We immediately contacted customer service several times, hoping they could fund an alternative as my partner suffers from back problems. They told us that the situation was exceptional and that nothing could be done.
Not only were we downgraded to seats, but we also lost all the amenities included with our sleeper tickets: no pillows, no blankets, no complimentary water, and of course no possibility of getting a proper night sleep.
What made the situation even more frustrating was that our friend travelling in the same train had been assigned to a five bed sleeper compartment with only three people in it. The company chose to downgarde two passengers to seated tickets rather than to make 3 people pass from a 5 person partially occupied cabine to a 5 person fully occupied cabine. The solution seemed obvioud, but customer service refused to consider it as it would mean to partially refund 3 people instead of 2.
As a result, i barely slept, and my partner spent the night in back pain.
The nightmare didn t end there
At 7 am in Berlin, we received another message informing us that our return journey had also been downgraded to seated tickets ! Less than 48 hours before departure, there was obviously no alternative available, so we endured a second sleepless night in exactly the same conditions.
After several complaints, the company agreed to refund 50% of our sleepers fares. However, despite this agreement, we only received compensation for the return journey. The refund for the outbound trip is still outstanding.
What disappoints me most is not the downgrade itself, unexpected operational issues can happen, but the complete lack of customer care and flexibility. The company had opportunities to improve the situation and choose not to. I sincerely hope European Sleeper improves both its operations and it's customer service, because based on our experience, i simply cant recommend it.
Disappointment
I’m currently on the final stretch of my train trip from Berlin to Paris, and, overall, I’m quite dissatisfied. To start, neither of the power sockets in the cabin have worked at any part of the journey. The train is advertised to have working power sockets, but, as I walked around, I noticed many cabins without functioning sockets.
Secondly, I paid ahead of time for breakfast, and yesterday evening the steward confirmed and said breakfast would be delivered at 8 am. It is now past 9:45, and we have not received our breakfast. About an hour ago, I went to find the steward to ask, and he said he would come directly, but it’s been still nothing. For myself, this would be annoying but manageable; however, I am traveling with my child, and he is struggling.
Overall, the idea of the overnight train is nice. In practice, though, this trip has left a lot to be desired, and I doubt I will recommend this to any of my friends or family based on the service I’ve received. I would also understand if this were a budget option, but I’m pretty sure we could have bought plane tickets to Paris for less than the cost of this train trip, and we would have received much better service.
Booked a premium cabin on the sleeper
Booked a premium cabin on the sleeper, for 2 people, from Brussels to Berlin. Two days prior, we were notified via email that our cabin was no longer available due to a lack of preventative maintenance. With the short notice, we attempted to adjust our plans however we are well over the cancellation period for most accommodation/connections, meaning we were forced to accept a downgrade of cabin. When we arrived the heat in the cabins was unbearable and bottles of water placed in the cabins were hot. None of the windows had been opened (majority sticking, taking the full force a 200 lbs men to open) with no assistance, particularly important for elder and disabled passengers. While we have been offered 100€ compensation, I feel that this does not adequately due to the age and condition of the train car. It is the responsibility this service provider to provide equal or better accommodations for our journey, particularly as our fares had been booked well in advance and this situation could have been prevented with proper maintenance on the transformer on the premium train car. Very disappointed and I will not recommend this service for travel. Note: There is no wifi available on this train.
Everything was as expected
Travel through space… and time!
First of all, I’d like to say that I wish this company all the best because they provide a fun, sustainable and reasonably priced alternative to flights for travelling across Europe. However, they have some serious equipment issues due to the fact that they use 50 years old sleeper coaches that have not been updated at all. Toilets do not work, cabin facilities are minimal, no sockets, no air con, no soundproofing. Bunk beds are comfortable but difficult to access and rather short (anyone above 1m85 will struggle). There is no food options apart from snacks and the bookable “breakfast” is disgraceful. Do stock up on food before travelling!
That said, the journey remains an enjoyable if somewhat strange experience and I hope the company will be able to invest in better coaches in the future, possibly with the help of public subsidies 😉.
Lovely.
My trip with European Sleeper to Prague was excellent. Comfortable seats, clean compartments, and bedding. It was a smooth ride. The service was friendly, and everything went according to plan. We had a private compartment for our group.
Highly recommended for anyone who loves sustainable travel or train journeys and wants to travel relaxed!
Huge delay and ignoring the messages
I got more that 3 hours delay on the way from Netherlands to Prague. I con the refund approved, and they claimed they will send it in 6-7 weeks (even though the legal terms it should be 4 weeks). Now it is more that 2 months and no refund arrived and nobody reply...
I understand the delay can happened, but ghosting the tickets is not a great practice...
I only gave 1 because zero wasn't…
I only gave 1 because zero wasn't allowed.
We waited on a boiling platform in Berlin for over three hours. Then, at almost 11pm, our overnight train to Paris was cancelled by text message. No help finding accommodation. No help finding alternative transport.
Customer service afterwards has been terrible. They refunded our hotel and the Uber we used to get to it, but would only pay 200 of the 500 euros that it cost us to get home.
Booking the European Sleeper just bought us stress and cost. I will never consider using them again.
Broken and dirty...both ways!
We would have left at least three stars if the issues had been repaired between our Paris-Berlin round trip last month. On the first leg, June 7th, we had to take a bus from Paris to Brussels because of "works". The busses had no electric outlets. Arriving very late to our train, our compartment had no working lights until midnight (they turned on when we were sleeping), no working electric outlets at all, meaning our phones died, and no way to order drinks or snack, " service unavailable" when we tried to use the QR code before phones dies), and no working toilets in our car, we had to walk two cars down to find one that was open. It had no soap and ran out of toilet paper before morning. We sent a detailed email explaining this to customer service, but didn't even bother to mention the broken and too-short privacy curtain, the garbage under the seats, and the fold down table covered in very old, sticky grime that clearly hadn't been cleaned in months.
Then, on our way back June 12th we had the EXACT same carriage, and the only difference was that the lights worked this time and we were able to order drinks. Still no electric outlets, no working toilets in our car, broken curtain, and the SAME trash and dirty fold-down table since the last trip!
We really wanted to love this experience that reminded us of our student days in the 90s, and the bedding at least was clean, but the rest of the experience was really a let down. If I had read the reddit reviews or this site beforehand, I wouldn't have booked.
Two stars for the kind but clueless staff.
Terribly old train
Terribly old train, dirty, and extremely uncomfortable. Paid 170€ from Brussels to Berlin in a 6 people sleeper compartment and got assigned the middle bed. Felt like sleeping in a sardine box, genuinely almost gave me a panic attack from the claustrophobia.
Do not give them you money, this is ridiculous.
not good
hot, cramped compartment and no sheets !
Train arrived late in a sketchy station that felt uncomfortable and uneasy.
Train was 3 hours late arriving at…
Train was 3 hours late arriving at Brussels. No breakfast or coffee even thou I had paid for it. My bed was occupied by someone else and I had to sleep on another berth. There was no pillow
Very disappointed
Very disappointed; the 5 berth sleeper cabin was dirty, seat & table broken and no ladder to access the top bunks. 3 of us travelled Brussels-Prague, but 2 girls joined at Amsterdam-Berlin with the biggest suitcases and backpacks, none of which fitted under the seats, causing massive disruption & blocking our exit. There is no way to select bunks when booking, so older travellers refused/were unable to climb up to their designated beds causing more disruption. Baggage rules need to be enforced and more ladders need to be bought! Sad that it was bad experience as I am a shareholder and early supporter.
