My 14 year old son finally began to see himself as a capable learner. He was excited about learning, for the first time ever. We couldn't have asked for a better experience Thank you!

From struggles to success!
My son was struggling with certain issues that required me to research alternative academic options. When I came across Fusion Academy of Long Island, and read all about their mission and goals, I was certain this was the right choice for my son. But leaving the decision to him after having been offered a tour of the campus, and to sit in in a couple of classes, sealed the deal. He was immediately excited to attend, and his natural intelligence and motivation returned practically overnight. He was welcomed with open arms and minds by students and staff alike, and he felt he had found his new educational home. His grades returned to their usual high level, as did his spirits and self-esteem. Best decision we've ever made for our child.

Good Teachers - Ridiculous Required Classes
The teachers and learning experience is great with all the support one would need to be successful. Although my experience was mostly positive, I'll leave other reviewers to speak of the various perks of this type of school. Henceforth, I will describe the downfalls of this school and the main negatives of my experience.

1. Required class Wellness: Wellness as a subject, physical and mental, alike, are important matters in society and having a course that focuses on these difficult subjects is a productive and important resource. The problem here is ALL STUDENTS looking to receive a high school diploma are REQUIRED - NO EXCEPTIONS - to take this class. Regardless of the student's opposition to the class or how "well" the student currently is, the student must take (and the legal guardians are required to pay full price for) this class. Although some students enjoy such as class, a large amount of them have absolutely no desire to take (and do not enjoy) it. This creates a negative environment surrounding it in which "your" money is "wasted" on a class that the student does not want to take (and will most likely not get much out of) and the teachers have to spend their time trying to teach material that the student is opposed to learning. Regardless of this, one might think that the class, although possibly wasteful, is not harmful. This sentiment is actually false. Although mostly harmless, there are instances in which the student is told to defy logic and give more credence to "feelings" when making decisions. Taking one's feelings into account when decision making is, of course, always important, but when one is told that it is - quite literally - "the most important factor" (meaning, regardless of all logic, if you don't "feel right" about it, then it must be wrong) there is clearly a factor of misdirection. Finally, the last factor which secures the ridiculousness of the situation, the student is allowed a certain amount of absences that allows them to skip more than an ENTIRE QUARTER of the class. This whole environment, ironically, creates a toxic aura around the class in which students begrudgingly attend, parents begrudgingly pay, teachers begrudgingly teach (as many teachers have agreed with this entire sentiment and agree that mandating the class is absurd), and the entire class is a countdown for when the student can use his absences and drop the class early (while still receiving full credit). As a disclaimer, I will reiterate that not all students share this sentiment and some genuinely enjoy and appreciate it to the point where they would chose to take it, had it not been required.
