Extremely Poor Customer Service.

Extremely Poor Customer Service.
I have tried contacting This company on their various platforms over the last two weeks to try to obtain the DNO letter for my Solar Panels supplied by JEM.
I can not sign up for a Utility Tarif as ive just bought the property and cannot register it until I obtain this from the company.
Due to this issue with the company being unobtainable I am being charged the highest tariff.
I am at a total loss as what to do.
Can any one on here give me any advice on how to contact them.
Many Thanks.

Early Days Review

We have spent several weeks speaking with a number of Solar Panel companies as we decided to make the decision to add 18 panels with a 13.1kw battery to our property. This is a big decision for us and scary as we have little knowledge of the market. Have to say from first meeting Dan to discuss our needs to the installation so far this company is excellent. This is only day 3 and the panels are working wonderfully so will update my review several months down the line. Special mention has to go to Simon who kept us informed during the install and Gareth the electrician worked with us to find the best location for the battery to look good on the house. Lots of people helped sorry to miss people out but all were fab, Ewan, Steve and probably more came. The place was left spotless even after the first day and honestly we are so happy. Every query in the early days was answered by Dan promptly and the site visit was re-assuring, absolutely no pressure selling. Have to end with a special mention to the scaffolding company sorry not sure of the name, thankfully they didn’t leave us with ugly scaffolding longer than absolutely necessary band for that we thank them.

Highly Recommend

From the initial contact and all the way through to completed project the Company and Staff have been first rate. The office has always dealt with matters very promptly and efficiently and the installation of the solar panels and battery storage despite being not straight forward was excellent with quality workmanship. Would definitely recommend.

Professional, efficient, dependable and polite

It was a pleasure dealing with JM Renewables. They dealt with my initial enquiry promptly and professionally, and their staff made me fully aware of the work that had to be done, together with the cost. The supply and commissioning of the new Air Source Heat Pump and hot water tank went very much according to plan, and the technicians who handled the installation were hard working, competent and polite.

EV Charge Point

JM fit a charge point for me last week. The electricians were really friendly and talked me through a few options. Sheila kept me updated with when anyone was arriving. Good price too especially for the service received. Thanks again

Overall a terrible experience.

The PV panels came unprotected, scratched, shoved sideways in the back of a small van.
• No measurements were used to install the clamp brackets. It was done ‘by eye’. This meant that when they missed the batten with the screw (which happened numerous times), they simply drilled another hole slightly higher/lower. On inspection, one clamp which was loose had 5x holes at random places to try and hit the batten, which would have definitely leaked into my roof.
• All screws were put in with an impact drill. In summary, the end result here after final inspection was that 25% of the screws in the clamps were turning (threaded) meaning they had been over-torqued.
• The side flashing were installed but they would not fit the top flashing. They did however put something called ‘fast-flash’ over the joint of the plastic panels. Instead of removing the backing plastic fully from the fast-flash, the guys installing thought it was acceptable to scrunch this up and stuff it down between the battens and the membrane.
• Regarding the top flashing -I was concerned that they were not planning to install the top flashing. The guy installing, said that they never install the top flashing at JM Renewables. This is how they do every job. I rang the director on numerous occasions, and I have a record of the pictures I’ve sent to him, and he reassures me numerous times with statements like: “trust me, I can guarantee it won’t leak”, “I am a company director..” and “we’ve done over 500 of these systems, we never install the flashing”, over and over again. I ask him to order the correct flashing, but he said they have a 3 month wait (I later found that I could buy them online next day delivery), I even ask if I could get my local fabricator to make them, but he said they are specialist items with “solar-rated coating”, and that the warranty would not be covered if I did this. I sent him a copy of the GSE installation manual, but he just ignored it, and sent me pictures of a completed job with slates cut around the raised section of the GSE panels, this would create a direct leak-path to the membrane without the top flashing! I had to get Building Control involved, as this seemed like the only way to get through to the technical director, and confirm that their method of installation was indeed incorrect. The "Technical Director" tells the Building Control they are “not a mickey mouse company”. Building Control recommend asking the manufacturer of the system (GSE) to confirm if what they’ve done is acceptable. I email the same picture I sent to the Technical Director a couple of days ago – to GSE, and they email back very quickly saying I have 2 options -fit the correct flashing, or use lead flashing. I email back saying I hope this is conclusive. But then the Technical Director replies by saying “it’s the first time he has seen this picture” and that they always fit the flashing on their PV installs (with Building Control copied in). To me, this concludes that he is a prolific liar…
• The panels was meant to be positioned centrally on the roof, but it ended up being about 400mm towards one side of the roof.
• They did not send me the electrical connection agreement.
• I had cross-battened my roof. If I had not done this, they would have screwed all the screws that secured the panel mounting, and clamps through the membrane! (note the penetrated the 1st batten by ~15mm). this is probably what they do on most retrofit jobs.

After all this, I noticed some of the clamps coming loose, so got back in touch. Without letting me know about it, someone turned up and went up (on my scaffolding) to inspect when I wasn’t home, I saw it on my CCTV. This is in itself -trespassing! But it turns out they installed the wrong sized panels, so all the panels had to be replaced with a different brand. They left the panels vertical on the scaffolding and went to get something from a local supplier, and wind blew one of the panels over, but luckily it did not break..
Overall I think you get the idea of what sort of company this is. Unfortunately, most people will not see how incompetent they really are.

Simply Superb

In terms of workmanship, excellent. Helpful and considerate in ensuring that any inconvenience was minimal, during the upgrading of the loft insulation, installation of the ASHP, central heating and fitting of the solar panels.
All of the craftsmen went that "extra mile" to ensure that we were happy, the job done expediently and proactively, using their initiative and resolving any problems that arose.

Brilliant service by friendly and very skilled workers

Gareth and Kristen turned up on time and ready to get the job done. They were lovely people who worked hard and were very neat and polite. Gareth went above and beyond to site our batteries/inverter and connect them up in a rather tight and difficult to reach position. Kristen made sure that he fixed the solar panels centrally on the roof in a very neat and sensible position. They made an excellent team and I would highly recommend them.

Excellent service, award-winning company

After reviewing multiple contractors, we decided to get a solar photovoltaic system from J M Renewables and were extremely pleased with the results. The consultation through Ben Musgrave and Daniel Miller was top notch. Once we agreed to move forward, we found the installation process very straight forward. The electrician gave us multiple choices where the different devices could be placed (i.e. battery, inverter, Eddi, etc). We very much appreciated that they took time to understand all electrical wirings in our house, and that our requests were fully taken into consideration. Through this solution-oriented approach, it allowed us to best use the space.

Even after the commissioning was done, they took great care of us, immediately answering further questions and requests we had.

As a plus: The equipment which was used all looked very sleek and modern. The battery has a white glass surface. We were pleasantly surprised.

We also appreciated how friendly and humble everyone was. This company has won multiple awards. They have also fitted solar panels on Chester Cathedral, yet they did not even mention this until much later.

Excellent and friendly service, and well qualified staff. Highly recommend.

Looking at ways to reduce your energy bills? Then look elsewhere

## TLDNR

16 months later... the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) forced them to pay "compensation for their breaches of the Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC) and for the inconvenience suffered by the Consumer as a result". Case now closed.

Do your research - it's easy to find bad companies but sometimes bad companies don't come to the surface until you ask them for help and it's only then do you realise the mistake you made. Our mistake was choosing JM Renewable Solutions...

## Introduction

This is our personal experience of paying JM Renewable Solutions to design, install and attempt to support a Mitsubishi Ecodan Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) at our new build.

### Initial contact 5/5

Contact was friendly, polite and eager to obtain our business.

### Design 4/5

The design process was quick and went through several iterations due to changing circumstances.

### Installation & Commissioning 2/5

1. Despite designing the system themselves with a clear architectural plan of the property in front of them, they still managed to bore two 2" holes through the wrong wall. These holes had to be filled in at a later date and the exterior wall re-rendered but the damage can still be seen.

2. Both the ASHP and the boiler had drain pipes fitted leading to an outside drain. However, the copper pipe from the boiler runs upwards, not downwards, so water will collect and freeze during the winter months leading to failure.

3. This is a two zone system, downstairs and upstairs, yet they only fitted one thermostat, which was fitted directly above a radiator!!!

4. Waste material left on site.

### Support 1/5

This is the main area of concern as their response time is glacial, bordering on non-existent and when they do reply it is far from satisfactory.

1. Reported a fault with the main panel rendering the system inoperable - many emails and phone calls later, simply to get their attention, they finally turned up to address the problem FIVE WEEKS LATER!!!

2. Reported issue where only one floor was being heated - the director of plumbing attended and suggested that an upstairs thermostat should be fitted and would get it arranged - why wasn't it fitted in the first place? He gave me his mobile number and said to call him anytime. After leaving many voice messages, sending countless text messages and even emailing JM Renewable Solutions, I have never heard back from him.

3. Considering that one of the main requirements of the system was that it could be controlled remotely, they eventually turned up one day to fit a non-compatible thermostat for the upstairs. It took the incompetent engineer a long time to install and did not inspire us with much confidence. The following day I contacted them with a detailed list of fault finding steps to help explain to them when the system works and when it does not....... 12 WEEKS LATER and the conclusion was "it was working when I left it" and "we're waiting for some new thermostats to be in stock" - we're still waiting.

# Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)

We were eligible for the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) where we would receive payments over a period of 7 years. JM Renewable Solutions applied on our behalf, which they're not supposed to do, and did so with incorrect information - this nullified our application and thus we have lost approximately £7k.

## Conclusion

JM Renewable Solutions are more than happy to take your money; install an incomplete system causing property damage in the process; treat post-installation customer support queries as an annoyance and, for all intents and purposes, simply ignore.

While waiting for their long overdue reply, we signed up directly with Mitsubishi for their "3 Diamond Maintenance Cover" plan. The following day, Mitsubishi serviced the system; diagnosed why the Mickey Mouse thermostat that JM Renewable Solutions fitted did not work (wasn't installed correctly); replaced the thermostat with the real thing. It was as simple as pick-up-the-phone, join the plan then open the door to them the following day - job done.

At the end of the day, you get what you pay for and in JM Renewable Solutions case, all we saw was tumbleweed and would highly recommend that you look elsewhere.

Do your research - it's easy to find bad companies but sometimes bad companies don't come to the surface until you ask them for help and it's only then do you realise the mistake you made. Don't make the same mistake as us.
