Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 1,266 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently report significant difficulties with customer service, often struggling to reach a human representative and facing unhelpful automated systems like "Cora" or "Cara" that provide repetitive and inadequate assistance. Many also experience issues with staff, citing poorly trained individuals who give incorrect information, make mistakes with appointments, or are unable to resolve problems, leading to prolonged and frustrating interactions. The payment process is another common source of dissatisfaction, with customers encountering problems such as unexpected charges, difficulties with online payments, and challenges in transferring funds or resolving disputes. Reviewers also express frustration with the overall service, highlighting a lack of responsiveness, ignored complaints, and a general feeling that the bank does not care about their issues or loyalty. The contact methods are often criticized for being inefficient, with long wait times, being passed between departments, and an inability to get direct assistance, forcing many to consider switching banks. However, some customers have had positive experiences, particularly with specific individuals or teams like the bereavement team, who provided excellent and sensitive support.

Impossible to get through

It is Impossible to get through to someone on the phone. Anyone calling customer service is likely already worried or stressed, and you force them through an endless answering machine questionnaire?! The answering machine didn't understand what I was calling for and I kept getting stuck. Eventually I just tried to talk to the fraud team as that was the only thing it could try for me. But I was in the queue for over 20 minutes when I gave up. The Cora chat is even worse!! Chat bots are awful. It's very stressful. Eventually when it agrees to put you through to someone it takes them 24 hours to respond!! And they don't even resolve the issue. They close the ticket! So you have to start over again. My issue has been taking several days because of the inefficient customer service. Is there only 1 person on the customer service team perhaps?? Absolutely shocking and I'll be leaving NatWest after several years with them because I just can't be dealing with this.

Non supportive company’s happy to let other company’s who bank with them to rip their customers off. Avoid using them if you can.

Awful company to deal with,
Make a bank transfer for a purchase to a business that use a NatWest business account. But the bank refuse to refund even tho I’ve proved I’ve not been sent my goods.
Told there is no protection unless it a company that isn’t registered on company’s house.
Awful way to treat a customer of nearly 20years.
Have closed one account and wanting to close the other but not doing until I can get my money back
Don’t bank with them they don’t care.

Wouldn't even give 1 star if that were possible! Truly appalling lack of customer service. Trying to pay a bill but because it's over my arbitrary limit of £750 per day, I can only do it by signing up to their "biometric" nonsense. An hour spent doing that and failing because my phone is apparently too old I try calling them. Oh no - have to talk to a useless bot called Cora who doesn't grasp the issue and won't put me through to a human being. I rue the day I moved to NatWest and am definitely closing this useless account and going elsewhere!!

Apps terrible

Apps terrible. I left and realised I needed statements, I spent forever on hold to be told I needed to go in branch. Great. But you closed the local one. Glad I left as they just seem to have got worse over the years, the app was terrible by the end and not functional most of the time.

Absolutely abysmal

Absolutely abysmal! tried to make a credit card payment to a major UK charity as part of my role as executor of a relatives will. They stopped it because it was “unusual activity” I complained as I had more than adequate funds and they refused to apologise, I have gone to the Financial Ombudsman. No wonder they score so low!

Fraudulent transaction on a debit card.

I had been trying to book a return phone call back from Natwest. After three attempts asking for a time slot 9am - 10am I finally fixed one for 11am but by 3pm I had not received a call.
Very upset, the next day my wife and I drive to Truro and straight away Spoke to Stuart Hill, he gave some excellent financial advice, plus sorting out the initial fraudulent transaction. The next day the problem had been resolved and the large sum of money returned to our account. A very big thank you to Andrew Hill for his excellent advice, and to Rachel Eaton for organizing a new debit card.

I opened a fixed rate isa so that my matured isa could be transferred in. I changed my mind due to poor correspondence and appalling customer service. I requested the money to be transferred before they received the money. Despite several online chat box, emails and phone calls they still have my money.

Having given Cora the natwest robot all…

Having given Cora the natwest robot all my details regarding a three month paper bank statement to be delivered to me and informed by cora the delivery would take upto 5 days. Waited over a week without reply. I phoned natwest to tell the I had the council breathing down my neck regarding these statements. After making three phone calls to natwest, all calls lasted about 20 minutes all ending in the same result automated voice saying, sorry there's a problem, and cut off! The only voice I heard in all three telephone calls was Laura Kenny telling me how great she was at the beginning! I have just received the same treatment on a call to natwest today. I've filled in another two forms with Cora in the last two weeks without success. I contacted the ombudsman to see if there's anything they can do, but I've been informed that they can't do anything till I've spoken to natwest.....😆fat chance...!!

Genuinely the WORST customer service I…

Genuinely the WORST customer service I have ever experienced. I had a situation where money was wrongfully taken from my account so I called up and was told to fill out an online form. This form wasn’t relevant to what I needed, so I called up again. Another lady answered and told me that my money was gone and there was nothing they could do about it. I was in shock. Her lack of professionalism, experience and people skills were genuinely horrific. This situation made me rethink banking with NatWest as if I ever need help I won’t get it. If you are a person considering which bank to trust with your money, I beg you to consider that although you might get good interest rates with NatWest, your money might not be safe.

Excellent service, he'll soon be the CEO…

We had an appointment at the NATWEST
branch in Newcastle under Lyme with RP
The account holder was GR. RP was absolutely excellent. He knew all the products and procedures absolutely inside out. I have used Section 75 a few times but now for the first time I truly understand it. ! My partner has special needs due to a health problem and RP was very sensitive to this.Thank you and don't forget the ticks!
