Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 435 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. People frequently complain that customer support is completely absent, leaving users stuck dealing with frustrating automated chatbots instead of ever speaking to real human representatives. Consumers also struggle heavily with subscription limits, noting that expensive computer credits run out far too quickly during basic tasks and pricing feels entirely unreasonable. However, some people mentioned that the platform features a powerful and accurate search tool for conducting daily professional research effectively. Reviewers occasionally noted that it functions surprisingly well as a smart assistant when handling standard informational queries without complex formatting requirements.

Charged subscription twice

I cancelled.my subscription from perplexity on goggle play and my credit card only to find perplexity charging my other card. I had to cancel it a second time after few monthly charges went thru. Its impossible to contact them as no customer service number exists

Charged after cancellation AGAIN

Charged after cancellation AGAIN. Completely unacceptable.

I cancelled my Perplexity subscription several months ago, and my account currently shows the FREE plan. Despite that, I was charged the full monthly subscription fee on October 19, 2026.

This has happened before. Perplexity previously refunded an incorrect charge, yet the same problem has happened AGAIN. Refunding one charge clearly did not resolve the underlying billing issue.

I contacted support requesting a refund, but communication has stopped and the issue remains unresolved.

Charging a customer after cancellation, while their account shows Free, and then leaving them chasing support is an appalling customer experience. I should not have to monitor my bank account for repeat charges from a service I cancelled months ago.

I want a full refund, an explanation, and written confirmation that recurring billing has been stopped.

Based on my experience, I cannot recommend trusting Perplexity with recurring payments. Check your statements even after cancelling.

CREEPY WAY TO DO BUSINESS - Never intentionally signed up for…

Never intentionally signed up for anything. Started to get erroneous bills on my PayPal from an old credit card number. Went through the motions of stopping it. Then perplexity reversed the charges and tried to do it again. I persisted and then the only way they'll let me close my account is to install their app which just ain't happening. They seem to have developed a way to take your money quickly. They ought to have a way to give your money back quickly.

Subscription cancelled without request; 50% discount lost and no further response

I have been a paying Perplexity Pro customer for about one year and accepted a one-time promotional offer for 50% off Perplexity Pro. The offer should have reduced the monthly price from $20 to $10.

Instead, I was charged $11.90. I contacted Perplexity Support solely to ask for an explanation of the price calculation and whether the advertised discount had been applied correctly. I did not ask to cancel my subscription.

Nevertheless, my PayPal Pro subscription was cancelled while my request was being handled, without prior confirmation from me. As a result, I lost access to Perplexity Pro and also lost the one-time 50% discount I had accepted.

Perplexity Support later confirmed that the cancelled PayPal subscription could not be reactivated and that the previous discount could not be restored. I was only offered the option to start a new Pro subscription at the regular price.

I asked for a fair goodwill solution, such as a voucher, discount code, or comparable offer. I also requested escalation to a manager or billing specialist. However, after my final message, I have not received any further response from Perplexity Support.

I am very disappointed with this handling of a long-term customer’s billing question. I would still welcome a fair solution from Perplexity, such as restoring the discount or providing an equivalent voucher. Until then, I do not feel comfortable renewing or purchasing another subscription.

Charged $12 despite a $4.99 renewal offer and reassurance from support

Perplexity offered me 12 months of free Pro (I'm in Education) followed by an “ongoing discount at $4.99 USD per month”. Before renewing, I contacted support because I had replaced my payment card. A member of their team explicitly assured me that I would retain my existing discounted rate.

Despite this, I was charged $12 on 21 September 2026.

I raised a formal complaint and supplied the original offer and the assurance from support. The handling has been disappointing: repeated chasing, a message threatening to close the ticket unless I replied despite my having already responded, and no satisfactory resolution.

Support has now acknowledged that its assurance about keeping my previous rate “was not correct”, but says it can only offer the current 50% education discount. It has recorded my complaint, without offering to honour the promised price or refund the $7.01 difference.

For me, the issue is not just the amount. I checked the price before renewing, relied on the answer I received, and was then charged more. Acknowledging that the advice was wrong without putting things right is not an acceptable response.

Complete RIPOFF!

Complete RIPOFF! You buy a monthly subscription for $130/month only to be told maybe half way through the month that you need to buy more credits in order to continue use! The Ai needs constant re-prompting in order to perform basic tasks completely and thoroughly so this process of going back and forth with the Ai burns up your credits instantly. This is by design and they should be sued in federal court. AVOID all Ai companies that operate this way.

Avoid at all costs

If you even glance at the agreement, you will see that they collect and sell EVERYTHING including what bank you use what kind of card you use how often and what you buy

Also they highkey keep removing things from the paid tier with no warning. Scam of a company.

Oh yeah, good luck cancelling your subscription, you should try to cancel way ahead of time.

Make Two-Step Verification Optional

Could you please make two-step verification optional? It’s inconvenient because I have to check my phone multiple times just to sign in. I’d prefer to have the choice to turn it off or only use it when needed.

Verified student, still overcharged for months

Don't leave reviews often but had to for this one. If I could give this a 0 star, I would. In short, my student account was verified, yet Perplexity kept charging me full price for months. I spent weeks trying to get it fixed, was repeatedly told I’d be credited, and nothing ever happened. Just automated responses, “escalations” and no follow up. Eventually I gave up and cancelled the subscription after paying substantially more than I should have. The product is good, but the customer service is easily the worst I’ve dealt with for any paid service. If something goes wrong with your billing, good luck. These guys will deflect and do nothing. Not a serious company.

I was conned out of two monthly subscription payments after a free trial finished, with no warning. A claim was attempted but I was treated as an imbecile by AI responses. Eventually, the concierge responded and offered one month refund but this never came and I was bounced back to AI responses only full of drivel. Keep away from them as they trick you but you cannot get a proper response from them. My bank tells me this is happening a lot.

Sneakily expensive hidden costs $$$$$$$$$

The program is fantastic. But it switches automatically into computer mode and even the program and support cannot help you move back into basic mode. All activity in computer mode costs credits which are $$. Very sneaky and expensive. The program is its own AI support which conveniently cant help you either and all attempts for support will cost you $$.

Cash grabbing money and disrespects its paid users

I am a paid Pro user for Perplexity.

1. I was banned in their Discord server, because I said "Perplexity is cash grabbing right now and they don't deal with support tickets." Instantly banned, even though I said nothing untrue. BTW, I'm a paid Pro user in their Pro user lounge in the Discord server.
2. Right now, their support tickets are answered by AI. That's right. You aren't hearing me wrong. If you file a support request like the UI problem or the app is buggy, you are greeted with literally an AI. (No matter what channel you use, you will be met by an AI.) The AI will answer your questions. It took a little over 2 months for them to get back to you as human support on the issue you repeated filed in the past 2 months.
3. Computer Mode is completely useless unless you give them more money. That's right. You aren't hearing me wrong. The product boasts about its versatility and actually encourages you to use Computer Mode. However, the computer mode is only usable if you charge money into it by buying more credits. Under default condition, simply paying $20 a month is not enough to let you use Computer mode. If you want to use it, you have spend money to buy credits, and it is $20 for 2000 credits. Mind you, a simple task can cost roughly 15 credits.
4. The company can't take any criticism. On Reddit, their mods threaten to ban users because a user voices his complaints about the company and the service. On their official Discord, you simply can't comment any criticism.

Low quality service. Consider other AI providers.

Don't use

The company does not have any customer support, when something brakes (like you run out of credits for a second and Computer options gets frozen) and you are permanently on your own and nothing will work properly.

Perplexity is the worst AI

Perplexity is the worst AI. I paid them money $200 which is not cheap for one year thinking that I would get something out of it, I didn’t. They are a complete rip off and everyone should stay away from this platform. RUN don’t walk away. You get absolutely nothing for the pro. I try to alter an image and it tells me I don’t have any image altering left, even though I haven’t done it for a while. I’ve tried to call to complain and nothing seems to work. They basically don’t care. I can do more things on ChatGPT for free that I with the paid pro plan on Perplexity. I would like my money back because I’m never going to use it again, and I already canceled the subscription for next year. I wish I’d never purchased it. I don’t suggest anyone else buy it. Stay away from this scam of a company.
