I'm very satisfied with how my refund request was processed. It was granted due to a family member's health issues, which isn't usually the case. The process was very quick and clear.

Overall a good experience with ERGO Reiseversicherung. The claim process was clear, the website was easy to use, and communication was timely. Processing took a reasonable amount of time, and everything was handled professionally. Would consider using their travel insurance again.

Avoid ERGO Travel Insurance at All Costs

ERGO Travel Insurance has shown a complete lack of compassion, fairness, and common sense.

My cancellation claim was rejected after my 18-month-old daughter became seriously ill just hours before an international flight. She had high fever and persistent vomiting, and at midnight we contacted NHS 111, the UK’s official out-of-hours emergency medical service. After a clinical assessment, we were explicitly advised not to travel.

ERGO refused the claim because:

We didn’t take a vomiting infant to A&E at 2–3 a.m.

NHS 111 medical advice was dismissed as “insufficient”

A GP letter issued later the same day (after symptoms eased) didn’t magically state she was unfit at 06:00 that morning

This is utterly unrealistic, unreasonable, and cruel.

They even claimed my child was “fit to fly” — despite the fact that the only medical advice available at the time told us not to travel, and despite the journey being over 24 hours door-to-door (multiple flights plus a 12-hour road trip).

ERGO seems to expect parents to either:

Ignore NHS medical advice, or

Drag a dangerously unwell toddler to hospital in the middle of the night, or

Force a sick child onto long-haul flights just to protect their paperwork

This is insurance in name only. When you actually need help, they hide behind technicalities, hindsight, and impossible standards of “proof”.

If your claim involves a child, illness, or real-world emergencies, do not expect ERGO to support you. I am now escalating this to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

I strongly advise anyone considering ERGO Travel Insurance to look elsewhere.

Insurance not worth the paper it is written on

I work in London and always book my ticket via Trainline and take out ERGO insurance. I had my ticker booked to go to London 08/09/2025 and my train was at 01.30 am. When I arrived at the station the station was locked and I missed my train. I the had to drive down to London as I had a few meeting that I had to attend. On arriving back home I put in an Insurance Claim with Ergo for the train that I could not catch. When I put in my claim I received an email advising me that I will have a response back to my claim within 10 days. over 4 week later no response. I contacted ERGO and lodges a complaint. I then received an email from ERGO advising that my claim was unsuccessful and that my claim was not valid. I was told to read the Policy Booklet relating to missed Trains. This Trainline Insurance is not worth the paper it is written on, and I will not be taking any insurance out with ERGO UK Travel Insurance Ltd again. Crooks.

Scam - Avoid Ergo by all means

Similar to many other insurances this company is just a pure scam.

Save yourself time and money and go with a modern insurance at least.

They are fast in letting you pay. Then if you need their help and service they‘re hard to reach and just cause so many more problems. The portal to upload cases would crash multiple times.

They scam you into a yearly subscription without providing proper notice about it.

Try 1: We gave it a try when we were sick on vacation and the doctor app they provided just connects you with random doctors who have no clue about ERGO and what you need for insurance purposes. - Result: couldn‘t use the insurance properly.

Try 2: We gave it a 2nd try when we we‘re sick and just wanted to get paid back our pharmacy costs of 120€. Nothing else just 120€ for a 250€ insurance. Provided them all the documents and proofs (physically!! because the portal would crash all the time). Then after 1month of waiting they just send a mail that they again need some more documents - even though we communicated it beforehand.

Whoever is doing Product Management at this company should get fired because this product offering and company creates ultimately no value for customers. Just trouble.
