We are getting ready to scale our business so we are speaking with our bank about better rates for processing. Square is definitely becoming a greedy company and ultimately they will lose to their competitors if they don’t take care of their customers.

How good is their security??

I've been generally happy with them but I have to question the security of their credit card processing. I have a retail clothing store and a customer came in and charged $1200 worth of merch. Big transaction but not unusual. Card went through with no issue at the point of sale. Money was never deposited into my account so I asked them about it and they said the card was fraudulent so it's my loss. Isn't one of the primary features of your system to pick up on fraudulent credit cards. My account rep is a great and she did everything she could to try to mend the situation but the people on the back end who are not customer facing (for obvious reasons) just basically said tough luck, not our problem. So essentially, if you're a criminal and want to commit credit card fraud, just look out for a Square system and you should be good.

I absolutely Love square

I absolutely Love square . I have been using them with my business since 2018. i love the fact that i can take it anywhere. Tradeshows house parties and events. The best part It turns your phone into a mobile till and yhere are no hidden fees and no monthly fees. So far its the cheapest option. I wish it accepted all foreign currency for my international clients . They keep adding more services which is amazing. Thank you Square Canada for being there for businesses.

My Online Biz Thrives Because of Square!

My entire business is run online and payments through Square. The payment links were easy to create and upload to my CRM platform. I used another payment system for over 10 years and it was never as easy as Square has been. When I rebranded in 2024, I chose to move to Square based on a recommendation from another small business person. I am glad I listened!
Customer services is fast and easy. And the fees are fair.

Customer service is AWFUL

Customer service is AWFUL! They do not know anything the majority of time and you spend HOURS trying to figure out with them how to solve things. They put you on hold constantly because they need to ask some one else what to do.

I would not even give one star but I…

I would not even give one star but I have to to leave the review. I hardly use this app to accept payments and I now remember why. Took a payment yesterday, get email that they are closing my account with no explanation. I appealed got an email this morning that account was restored. Great! But that lasted all of 30 mins. As soon as I tried to transfer my money to my account that function is no longer available to me and account is in review again! This time without even receiving any notice that I can no longer use the account until it's been reviewed yet again. The worst of the worst do not recommend if you want to actually get paid.

Dispute in my favor

So i have a company and had a dispute by a customer, square was in formed i was on vacation and they didnt care i didnt have any paperwork with me, so they said well then you lose and took my money I worked hard for, so we cut vacation early went home sent everything that was asked of us! FEBRUARY 11 , 2026 they sent me a email stating that the credit card company went in my favor, now on FEBRUARY 27, they reopened for a second investigation cause now to tell more lies the credit card company states shes not aware how this charge came about ,on contract it state amount paid by square payment, with the customer signature on contract, so basically if I pay you in square, and say what is this , you dont get paid , so now i got all my money for material and labor the customer thought she'd screw me out of but I had to close my bank account and now square and I are done, if I could give a no star ,I'd be happier, but I have friends in business that do the same thing, and now they going through it, then when you call square it all foreigners who answer and honestly dont care bout you they want that money this has been since August 8 2025, did work didnt jump after works been done she say she dont no of these charges, here I still fight for 7k bucks in March 2026 ridiculous and believe me they come back with and excuse like they have no control so it come.to.dont tell me I won then change it all over again

From what you've described, it sounds like you experienced what's called a "pre-arbitration" or "second chargeback" - this can happen when a cardholder continues to dispute a transaction even after the initial dispute was decided in the merchant's favor. While frustrating, this is unfortunately part of the card network dispute process that all payment processors must follow.

A few points that might help:

Documentation is key: It sounds like you have a signed contract showing "amount paid by Square payment" - this type of evidence is exactly what helps win disputes.

Timing matters: The initial response window is typically 7 days, which can be challenging when traveling. For future reference, having dispute response procedures in place (including cloud backup documentation access) can help protect against similar situations.

Banks typically take up to 90 days from the start of the dispute to make their final decision. Since this timeline is determined by the card-issuing bank, Square unfortunately isn’t able to speed it up. If the second chargeback was filed in February, it sounds like the bank is still in the determination process.

A random paycheck in excess of $6,000…
A random paycheck in excess of $6,000 was drawn on my bank instead of the amount that was supposed to be paid. Numerous non-sensical emails back and forth. Finally got a live person who had me explain the problem (15 minutes) then transferred me to someone else who kept me in the phone an hour without resolution. It was obvious he was jerking me around because when I told him how frustrated I was that there was no resolution he said he didn’t like the way I was speaking with him. He kept me on and off hold for almost an hour. When I had to start another appt he said he’d email the info - never happened. There was supposed to be an evaluation at the end if the call, but he hung up so that I could not leave one. His sadistic style convinced me to close my merchant services account and payroll. The people I dealt with were unable to comprehend the simple question “why was my paycheck draw $6,000 more that it was supposed to be?” It’s a straightforward monthly salary, but the responses I got indicated people could not listen, or do mathematics, or payroll. Stay away from this company.

Piss poor customer service in liars

I had a customer that was told not to use a credit card when I billed them an invoice, I then had to refund the money back to the customer square wants to charge me a fee of $152 for transaction where I explained to them the situation in return Leonard I spoke to on the phone said to go back into my account set it up with the banking and then they would waive the fee one time. I just got off the phone with square and they said Leonard never documented anything and that they refuse to refund the fee , in the end squares customer service is awful pretty typical for customer service these days. I will no longer be using them and I will do everything possible to let everybody know how pissed poor they are. i’m adding this because the response from square doesn’t give you a chance to respond. I know there is an option for paying credit card. I told them to opt out of it and do not do it because I was not set up. They did not listen and they proceeded, and then your company lied to me after they said that they would reimburse me a one time.

To clarify what happened: when you sent an invoice with a card payment option, your customer paid by card. You then refunded that payment, and the processing fee wasn't refunded back to you. While this is standard across the payment processing industry - the real issue seems to be the miscommunication with our support team about this.

Not impressed with customer service

Any sort of transition between contact information or account management leaves you unable to access square at all. and their help line is completely useless, missed out on 4 potential jobs and had 0 access to the money in my account for 3 days.

I’ve really enjoyed the square app

I’ve really enjoyed the square app. Makes keeping appts easy and because I’m using the savings end I’m also saving money from my proceeds/payments.

Subscribed to invoice plus

Subscribed to invoice plus, however when sending estimates to customers and using the automatically convert to invoice option when the customer accepts the estimate it does not use the pre selected invoice template. In fact it doesn’t use a template at all it keeps the same information from the estimate. It worked at one point but stopped. So I’m having to go in after each customer accepts the estimate and input information for invoice.
