I worked at Canterbury gym

I worked at Canterbury gym for 15 years when it was DW it then was everlast .after a long while I had to leave as was repeatedly underpaid ...this july under completely new staff and was asked to come in to cover and potentially do some new classes ...I did 6 classes in july and it is now October and still no payment....I was asked to do more classes 3 more times but I said I d be a fool to do more until paid ...the girls at desk are sweet but obviously can do nothing and it seems the same for the managers who keep promising me payment but nothing....the main manager just passed me off saying not his responsibility!!

Cleanliness has gone downhill badly

Cleanliness has gone downhill badly. Completely unacceptable during my visit to
the steam room on 7th June 2025. Used plasters, used water bottles and hair on the floor in the steam room. Most disgusting of all, I had to pick someone’s else’s toe nail off the bottom of my foot. Utterly grim.

Not entirely what I’d hoped for

I joined in August on the strength that the steam room would be up and running again in the coming weeks (I was told the contract for works had been approved) but it’s now two weeks before Christmas and it’s still closed sadly.
The showers are spacious with plenty of hot water (cleanliness is a bit dubious though) but when I went last week I was greeted with a ‘showers closed’ sign, fair enough if they have maintenance, but a brief message to members to warn them isn’t rocket science is it? So, I couldn’t make my meeting afterwards (had to go home first to have a shower).
Finally, it would be nice if the meathead fitness instructors kept their effing and blinding to themselves instead broadcasting out loud!
It’s great to have a workout and then unwind in the steam room and/or pool. I remain hopeful.

No air conditioning

If you enjoy a hot and smelly workout, this is the gym for you. The air conditioning has been out of action for weeks (yes weeks). Who knew air conditioning could be so complicated to fix. It's now the middle of June, the staff still cannot give a date when it will be fixed.

Cancelled subscription. Unsanitary

Cancelled subscription as am sick of the poor hygeine. People spitting and snotting everywhere around pool and steam room, green slime and missing tiles in steam room, bring flip flops incase you slice your toe on something razor sharp on the floor like i did! A huge green wad of lung-butter floating around the pool was my final straw.

The fact that they are now offering £5 monthly subscriptions (while others like myself still pay 6× that amount) means the place is used as a doss-house for aged-infants who like to spit and snot around the pool and just hang about getting in the way, not taking their fitness seriously, it's more of a youth club or day care centre than a gym. I'm not saying that all the new £5 people are like this, but it has lowered the bar of clientel and i refuse to pay for it now.

A great team of staff!

So this week I reinstated my membership back at the Canterbury branch.
Last night I went in and did my work out, cardio weight training, all fine!
Then, I decided to go for a swim, and when I was in the pool there were a group of four lads not showing any respect to the facility or the people around them. Jump flips into the pool, wrestling, splashing people as they were messing around, no respect for who was around them what so ever. They were treating the place like it was a water pool. So, for the safety of them and others around them I went and told the front desk who were on it straight away. They asked them to leave the pool and when I was about to leave they checked that I was all okay and even walked me to my car! The team of Everlast handled it so professionally and should be very proud of themselves. It really is a gym where I feel comfortable enough to go and speak to a member of staff if I have any concerns :)
