Incredibly poor communication
Incredibly poor communication, very rude and unprofessional
Dreadful all round experience, failed me completely
Started a purchase in August 2025 and was told it was possible to complete before Christmas, with January or a February more likely.
It is now July 2026 and I have been forced to withdraw from the transaction after 11 months of slowly escalating stress and worry. I do not necessarily blame Poole Alcock for some of the difficulties experienced with my lender and, as this was a leasehold, the management company of the property but I am appalled their correspondence with me accepts no culpability whatsoever. They have an equal portion to blame in the failure of this purchase. Even if this transaction had completed, I would give the organisation as a whole the lowest possible rating.
I was let down in every respect. Communication was totally non-existent, I was kept completely in the dark unless I chased and only telephone could be used. Emails were not responded to. Requests I made were ignored. At critical points I was forced to call every day to understand what was going on, however, I soon realised I could not trust what I was being told. I think an overworked and understaffed conveyancing team will say quite literally anything to get you off the phone. I sympathise with them, they must spend all day every day fielding angry customers if everyone is getting the complete lack of service I experienced. Searches took weeks longer than I was used to and after that responses to my lender were piecemeal. A total lack of thoroughness led to huge amounts of confusion, some of which I would be hard-pressed to explain, as I was not copied in on any correspondence or kept apprised of what questions were being asked and answered over a period of weeks.
As matters became increasingly urgent at my end, I was given no support at all. I refuse to believe they are capable of acting quickly even if they wanted to. The piecemeal queries and answers they sent to the seller caused agonising delays. It would not be exaggeration to say that no forward progress at all has been made within 6 months and another 6 could have passed, I am sure, with still no exchange date. I reluctantly chose to withdraw as my personal circumstances had completely altered in the year since I initially saw the flat.
A flashy sales team and positive reviews on here were enough to convince me to go with this firm over many others, but I was continually embarrassed in calls with the estate agent and my mortgage broker given what I was told directly contradicted what they had been told. I would never recommend a firm I think, fundamentally, I was unable to trust and who did not ever move off second gear in terms of speed or efficiency. I was told totally incorrect information over the phone.
Of course, I got their bill less than an hour after an email acknowledging my withdrawal from the purchase. This is the only thing that happened with any sort of speed whatsoever and is laughably predictable.
I am sure their argument will be leaseholds are difficult, my lender Nationwide was very pedantic etc etc. It’s not good enough. They utterly failed to meet even a minimum professional standard and I would recommend if you are seeking a conveyancer, use literally anyone else. If you are from Bristol (where they have essentially a PO Box but no real office) then definitely do not use them.

Outstanding service!
Outstanding service! Poole Alcock Solicitors were super quick to respond and handled everything flawlessly and on time. From first contact to final outcome, the whole process was managed efficiently and without delays. They contacted me the very next morning at 9 am, while other firms took a week just to get back to me. By that time, Poole Alcock had already resolved my issue. If you are looking for a solicitor who gets things done quickly and delivers excellent results, I highly recommend Poole Alcock Solicitors.

Employment Settlement Agreement
Elinor and team provided clear and swift support with regards to an employment settlement agreement. They kept me up to date the whole way through and gave efficient guidance on each step of the process I had to follow.
Poole Alcock joke of a firm
Poole Alcock joke of a firm. I called in regarding a high-value litigation matter and the receptionist couldn't even direct a phone call properly. I was passed through to a completely wrong department, and the woman I spoke to there still couldn't get me through to the right person. You claim to be aggressive, top-tier litigation lawyers who act fast and help people, but your front-line staff have zero competence or urgency. They are completely soft and clearly not up to the task of handling serious business. Don't waste your time calling them.
I wish I could give zero stars
I wish I could give zero stars. My experience with this firm was absolutely appalling, unprofessional, and has caused me huge stress, delay and unnecessary worry at an already difficult time.
I instructed them solely to handle the sale of my property. They knew the full background of the transaction, they accepted the work, and everything was agreed and in place — we were very close to exchanging contracts.
Then out of the blue, I received a letter saying they could no longer act for me, using only a vague, meaningless excuse: “circumstances are such that we are unable to fulfil our professional obligations”. No proper reason, no explanation, no phone call — I was just dumped without a word.
I later found out exactly why: they made one routine call to the other party involved just to ask about fixtures and fittings in the house. Instead of answering the question, he made up dramatic, exaggerated claims — telling them he had “nowhere to live”, no money, and painting a completely false picture of chaos and crisis.
Instead of picking up the phone to ME — their actual client — to check the facts or hear my side of the story, they took his word as the truth, panicked, and ran away.
I had already told them clearly, and had signed legal proof, that everything was agreed, the finances were settled, and he had known for months that he had to make his own arrangements. But they didn’t bother to look at the paperwork, they didn’t bother to verify anything, and they abandoned me purely because they were too scared of a bit of drama.
Worse still: when I and my sister tried to call them to ask why this was happening, we were ignored for two days — told they were “in a meeting” every time, and they never called back. When my sister eventually got through, a member of staff was incredibly rude, refused to speak to her at all, and put the phone down mid‑conversation.
This is not professional service. This is cowardice, incompetence, and a total failure to act in a client’s best interests. They are property solicitors, yet clearly have no idea how to handle a situation where someone tries to cause trouble — the moment things sounded slightly tricky, they ran for the hills.
They left me stranded, having to find new solicitors at the last minute, risking the sale of my home and everything I have worked towards — all because they listened to the other side’s lies and simply refused to do their job properly.
If your matter is extremely simple and straightforward, maybe they are fine. But if there is any complexity, or any person involved who likes to cause drama or make things difficult — STAY WELL AWAY. They will drop you the second it gets slightly difficult.
I have now reported their conduct to the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Do not trust them with your most important transactions.
Great service
The communication was great, good knowledge, easy to understand and timely. Would definitely recommend
Fast, professional service
I needed a quick response and speedy turnaround, which is exactly what I got. It was a straightforward enough job but it's always a pleasure to experience professionalism and competence, as I did with Poole Alcock!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent, swift, and professional service
I contacted Jamie and his team regarding an employment law settlement agreement and I could not be happier with the service I received. Jamie, Kellie and Jennifer were absolutely outstanding from start to finish.
They dealt with my inquiry immediately and the entire process was completed within one day — I was amazed by how fast and efficient everything was. Everyone I spoke to was highly professional, knowledgeable and clearly experts in their field, yet also very approachable, friendly and happy to explain every step in plain language.
There was no unnecessary delay, no confusion and I felt fully supported throughout. I would definitely recommend Jamie and his colleagues to anyone needing help with employment law matters and I would not hesitate to use them again if required. Thank you all for such a brilliant job!

How do I express how useless they were
How do I express how useless they were? The moment our house move ran into an issue they basically held up their hands and gave up. I managed to save the move to our dream house completely on my own because I have experience in this area however for anyone depending on them entirely, don't. They have no experience with anything more than a simple new build purchase. They made it stressful and expensive. Not worth a single penny.
