I understand the property market is extremely congested at the moment, but my experience with this agency went beyond what can reasonably be explained by high demand.
There was a clear lack of transparency throughout the process. Communication was poor, information about the property’s status was unclear, and I was never given a fair opportunity to view the property. No clear explanation was provided as to why viewings were handled the way they were.
While competition is expected, basic professionalism, ethical conduct, and open communication should still apply. Unfortunately, this experience felt neither transparent nor equitable, and it has left me questioning the agency’s standards.
I hope the agency reflects on this feedback and improves how prospective clients are treated going forward.

We have been letting our property through Romans for the past 5 years and Romans has always found tenants for us very quickly. They always kept us updated with regards to the progress of the viewings and the new tenants. As a first time landlord I was looking for an agent to market my flat, find suitable tenants and carry out the required checks and associated documentation (tenancy agreement, deposit protection, rent collection etc). I visited a few well known letting agents and chose Romans based on my initial experience meeting with Tim in the Reading branch and feedback from my neighbour/landlord who is also with Romans (having previously been with another agent). To date my experience with Romans has been excellent. I have had contact (in person, via phone & email) with various members (Tim, Charlotte, Sal to name a few) of the letting team and everyone has been professional, helpful and responsive. I'm very pleased with the service I'm receiving and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Romans for your letting needs.

Since posting my original review on 2nd August and raising a formal complaint through the proper channels, I’ve received a very swift response from the Lettings Manager, Charlotte. From that point on, she has been consistently following up on all the issues I reported and has kept me updated on the progress every single day.
While my initial experience was extremely disappointing, I do appreciate the effort being made to put things right. Charlotte has shown real professionalism and dedication — she is without doubt one of the company’s most valuable team members.
As all the issues are still being followed up and the outcome is yet to be seen, I believe a 3 star rating is the most appropriate at this stage.

⚠️ Avoid this company at all costs! This has been the worst rental experience I’ve ever had.
After the viewing, Cameron kept pushing me to start the tenancy as soon as possible. I clearly told them I didn’t need to move in that quickly, but I understood the landlord wanted to start collecting rent. Eventually, I compromised and agreed.
But on the day I moved in, the inventory list still wasn’t ready, the kitchen tap was leaking, the shower hose was broken and also leaking, and the curtains were torn. Worst of all, the flat hadn’t even been cleaned properly — dust and dirt everywhere. Why was I rushed to move in when the place clearly wasn’t ready?
What’s more frustrating is that when they wanted me to sign the contract, they were always reachable. But once the tenancy started and I needed help, it became nearly impossible to get hold of anyone. What kind of service is that?
I’m still disputing the condition of the property with them. If you’re thinking about renting through this company, think twice — and if you can, avoid them altogether.
As a landlord, a great experience of working with the Lettings team at Romans Reading over a long period, in particular Charlotte was amazing, super helpful and responsive. Thanks for all of your help. I would not hesitate to recommend.

Matthew was a pleasure to work with, and I highly recommend him to anyone selling their property in Reading after dealing with Chancellors and Prospect (who were simply useless). Without Hannah, I think the sale would have fallen through due to the total unprofessionalism of the solicitor. Hannah communicated clearly and professionally with me and the buyer, and kept the sale from falling through. Highly recommend Hannah. Again, big thanks to Romans, Matt and Hannah.

I rang another estate agent first but they didn’t pick up the phone. I then tried Romans and they answered the phone quickly. I wanted someone to value the house the next day, Matt Leigh rearranged his schedule to come at the time to suit me. A week later photo’s and the EPC was done. The following week an open house was arranged There were 23 people who viewed the property and 7 people made an offer. Hannah Rawlings took over the administration process and has been amazing. The whole experience of dealing with Romans has restored my faith in business that the customers needs come first. A huge thank you to everyone in the Romans team

My recent experience with Romans left me quite disappointed. As a potential buyer, I've worked with their member Harry, who not only set my viewing for a property to less than 10mins and welcomed another buyer in, while I had viewed just a fraction of the property and focused on them. He then provided wrong "last sold" info about the property and said they'll find out the answers to my questions, only to never call me back. So I've called Romans today (4 working days after the viewing) to find out whether they have the info I've asked for: lo & behold, the property has been sold! But no one bothered to inform me. So much so for timely communication and keeping the customer updated in a timely manner. Romans did not make me feel valued as a potential customer and this whole experience is far off from what I'd call "professionals".

Friday 17th Jan, call Romans about a viewing I wanted in tilehurst, got cut off twice, then go through to head office to put in through again - got cut off, called again got through to town office, said they would get tilehurst to call me asap, 45 minutes later no call and now closed, do they not won't to sell House's.
UPDATE 21st, just had the robot reply from them about my review !!
and never did get the call back, i may just go and knock on the door of the house i wanted to view, would be a lot less stressful !!!
