Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 108 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many people were deeply dissatisfied with the extremely high costs, unexpected annual subscription renewals, and a general lack of clear pricing information before completing their work. Customers also noted that free service options are extremely restrictive, quickly cutting off access and pushing users into unexpectedly costly plans. However, some reviewers were happy with the intuitive platform, finding it very straightforward to build custom surveys, format questions, and gather prompt feedback. People also warmly appreciated the helpful analysis tools, smooth navigation, and how efficiently they could manage questionnaires for various daily tasks.

Overpriced for what we needed

Overpriced for what we needed, which was to register for a single event. From the time I got a free account until I needed to up grade cuz we were pushing the 25 response limit, the price went from $99/month to $139. If you are doing lots of surveys over a long time and need AI assiatance to design surveys, it is worth it as the annual price is only $300. They need to add a single survey option, 10 question max, no ai help, survey open a max of 90 days, 500 response max, allow response downloads to xls or pdf for $69 max cost. I will not be using them again.

Four weeks to respond to a customer…

Four weeks to respond to a customer ready to spend £489

I approached SurveyMonkey Audience because I was ready to purchase 100 targeted UK survey responses for a client. The survey had already been built and tested, the client was waiting, and I simply needed several perfectly reasonable questions answered before spending £489.

My original enquiry was sent on 12 August. I followed up repeatedly, clearly explaining that this was a live commercial project—not a general question about subscription plans.

SurveyMonkey initially sent me an irrelevant automated response about Individual and Team plans. Despite further emails, nobody answered the actual questions about audience qualification, demographics, quotas, VAT or pricing.

Eventually, I gave up and used Pollfish instead.

The contrast could not have been greater. Pollfish was delighted to take my business, provided access to helpful human agents in real time and completed the research the following day. The results produced excellent, genuinely useful insights that my client loved.

They also did it for approximately half the price SurveyMonkey had quoted.

Then, more than four weeks after my original enquiry—and long after the project had been successfully completed elsewhere—SurveyMonkey finally replied. They apologised for the delay, blamed a high volume of enquiries and sent me links to some generic help articles “for future projects.”

Future projects?

A prospective customer was ready to spend nearly £500 and did practically everything possible to hand SurveyMonkey the business. They still could not provide a substantive response before the opportunity disappeared.

Businesses are often judged by how they handle problems. SurveyMonkey failed before I had even been allowed to become a customer.

If this is how difficult it is to obtain basic pre-sales support, I would have no confidence whatsoever in relying on the company once my money—or my client’s research project—was actually in its hands.

Pollfish demonstrated exactly what competent, responsive service looks like. SurveyMonkey demonstrated the opposite.

There will not be a future project.

Good product but disappointing subpar service/partnership

I would like to start by saying the product itself is good.
What we have experienced as a customer that has signed an Enterprise contract for 3 years is that they are very willing to talk and say what you want to hear when you are going through the sales process.
Once the contract is signed, the person you engage with disappears and when there is the smallest problem or any issues at all, they will not engage.
When they have told you that the system integrates with Salesforce, be very careful because it does but doesn't necessarily in the way you want. There was no discovery around our tech setup which would have uncovered some fundamental issues.
It was all fixed but only down to our own tech team dealing with it all. Their implementation team didn't know how to fix issues, our own team suggested improvements and changes to their documentation because of inaccuracies and actual errors.
We were left to figure things out by ourselves when we had been told there will be hand holding throughout the process. A very disappointing experience and one that has left us with a very sour taste.
When we were handed over to customer success, we requested a call to run through all our feedback. The salesperson we dealt with and had tried to re-engage throughout the process didn't attend or respond to any communications despite multiple attempts by us and his own colleagues. Truly terrible service in my experience and I would not recommend them purely on the basis of having sold a partnership to us and it being the total opposite.

Deceptive business practice to trap you into paying money

Deceptive business practice to trap you into paying them money to see the results. If you want to see more than 10 responses to a survey you need to pay them money. At NO POINT do they plainly inform you before hand, if they do "inform" you it is hidden in a wall of text terms of service. I will never use their product again and I will tell everyone I know to never use their product.

Total Scam

Warning: total scam. They only let you have 10 responses on the free option and then they force you into signing up to an annual subscription instead of a monthly one because they can block the monthly option, depending on what their algorithm suggests will get them the highest ROI.

I'm moving over to Tally as I only to create the occasional survey.

Not the best, but...

It's- I mean it's OK if your making a short work survey, but I hate how it doesn't tell you you need to pay to use more then ten questions until you've already made like 20 of them and spent two hours making a quiz.

This is speaking from personal experience. I think it's fine for a short survey, but if you want to make a quiz, don't use this.

Beware of Survey monkey subscription risk

Beware! This company tries to sneakily sign you up for a recurring subscription initially “free” for Basic” service but you are then at risk of escalating to a premium service. Their cancellation system loops in an endless electronic dead end. I used to think this was a benign company with a useful tool but it appears to have changed into something else entirely - check the other reviews and be very careful what you click if you take one of these surveys. I will not be completing any more SurveyMonkey surveys in future.

Absolute scam

Absolute scam! Needed to export surveys for an assignment. Asked if able to get a monthly subscription, took me directly to help page with link saying it could be done, and then say it is charged monthly rate. In small print it says charged annually and had $300 taken out. When sought help was given an AI bot response automatically when requested refund and then when eventually a human came through a 'copy & paste' job that can't refund because it was clear. Suck you in with free surveys and false link saying it can be done individually, avoid!!!

Overpriced

The free option is now so limited as to be useless. But pricing is unclear and frankly, overpriced. I want to do a single survey for a charity, expecting a couple of hundred responses, but have to pay £19/month "billed annually" what does that mean? I suspect it means a full year is the minimum. £228. No thanks, there are plenty of options. Survey monkey is easy to use but too greedy.

Sneaky Auto-Renewal

Sneaky Auto-Renewal puts me at over $500 for one survey that was over a year ago. Customer service is wretched. The tools are functional, but there are better alternatives.

Had the app for about 2 months

Had the app for about 2 months, after doing around 5 very indepth surveys my total earnings was $2.50. I just did another 5 minute survey for .50. After finishing the survey, they told me I didn't answer honestly, which I did answer correctly, and they weren't going to pay me that whopping .50 cent. It's a scam just to get your data for free. Stay away, far away from this scam app!

Survey Monkey has really tanked

Update: Ian rang me up and was able to get the surprise pause survey running and walk through the issues with the other survey. Great guy. Made. a crappy situation better.

Original: Survey Monkey has really tanked.

Both of my surveys have been paused by the Audience team over the last few days. One was for bad qualification, and while trying to fix it, it was like pulling teeth. Im getting a single email from the Audience team a day, despite paying for 24/7 email support. Just now, my other survey was paused with 1) no email from the audience team and 2) justified as "high abandonment rate", despite 1 abandon.

SM Audience is already insanely expensive and with this abysmal support, We're going to switch. We've been building our own surveys with Claude, so we'll either move to Prolific or Pollfish while we centralize survey creation on our end.

I’ve been actively using the SurveyMonkey Rewards app and recently encountered a verification issue that prevents me from accessing my earned rewards. I’ve attempted the process multiple times, verified my details, and ensured my internet connection is stable, but the problem continues. I would appreciate your help in resolving this.
