Considering 2,110 reviews, reviewers had a great experience with this company. Customers consistently praise the medical staff and receptionists for their incredible kindness, expert handling of emergencies, and deeply compassionate approach. Many people note that the veterinary team communicates clearly throughout the process, keeping pet owners well informed and providing much needed reassuring support during stressful situations. However, some reviewers were not happy with the extremely high costs and expensive fees charged for out-of-hours emergency treatments. Consumers also mentioned feeling heavily stressed by unexpected bills, large consultation charges, and slow insurance claim processing times that added financial strain to difficult moments.

About Vets Now

Pet emergencies can happen at any time – including when your regular vet is closed.

That’s why our nationwide network of out-of-hours pet emergency clinics are open through the night, at weekends and on bank holidays, so we’re ready and waiting to provide expert pet emergency care when your regular vet is having some time off.

Our pet emergency clinics are the pet equivalent of A&E and our purpose is to give you and your pet the care and support you deserve, at the time you need it most, whether it’s four in the morning or in the middle of Sunday lunch.

Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from over 60 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and two 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 200,000 small animals every year — our highly-skilled team works hard throughout the night, weekends and Bank Holidays. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.

We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our two hospitals — in Glasgow and Manchester — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Trustpilot Review

Very disappointed with how my claim has been handled.

My cat Leo was treated by Vets Now on 7 August 2026. I have contacted Vets Now twice to chase the information required for my Tesco Insurance claim, but Vets Now apparently failed to respond to Tesco Insurance.

As a result, Tesco Insurance has now closed my claim, leaving me out of pocket.

I have had to pay £500 to Vets Now on my credit card to prevent further credit charges from building up while this matter remains unresolved. I am now seeking to recover this £500 and any associated interest or other reasonable costs caused by the delay.

I have asked for details of the appropriate regulatory and complaints escalation process. If this is not resolved, I will escalate the matter through the appropriate financial complaints process, including the Financial Ombudsman Service where applicable.

I should not be left financially disadvantaged because the veterinary practice failed to provide information required by my insurer. I expect both parties to properly investigate this and resolve the matter rather than passing the responsibility between each other.

All about money and not the care of your pet. Out of hours service is daylight robbery who pray on those who love their pets knowing the will pay. Even when insured you are charged £300 plus before you even see the vet.

Hi Susan, thanks for your feedback on the cost of your pet’s care at Vets Now. We
appreciate that taking an unplanned trip to an emergency care provider can be
frustrating. It’s much more expensive to run an emergency clinic than a regular daytime
veterinary practice and our prices do reflect this. For a thorough breakdown and

I am extremely upset and disgusted by our experience at Vets Now. We brought our cat in as an emergency because she was barely moving and breathing very heavily. There appeared to be only one vet working, yet almost immediately we were asked to authorise up to £2,000 for treatment. It makes you question how much profit this company makes from desperate pet owners who have no choice when their animal is sick.
We were told her X-rays and blood tests would take 30 minutes to an hour. Instead, we waited six hours, repeatedly asking for updates and receiving very little information. In the end, they found gas in her stomach but couldn’t tell us what was actually wrong with her.
What I find most disturbing is the condition Mina was returned to us in. Her legs and neck were extensively shaved, badly sore and bleeding, and she was extremely angry and distressed. Nobody told us what had happened to her or why she was in that condition. I genuinely have serious concerns about how Mina was handled and whether she was mistreated while she was out of our sight. An animal cannot be returned to their owner bleeding like this with no proper explanation.
The nurses seemed extremely clumsy, and I personally witnessed a nurse accidentally hit a dog’s head against a door while carrying the dog. Even the reception area was in a terrible condition, with dirty carpet and broken chairs.
For the enormous amount Vets Now charges, I expected sufficient staff, transparency and, above all, safe and compassionate treatment of animals. Instead, we left without answers and with our cat in a worse physical and emotional state. I will be making a formal complaint about what happened to Mina.

I attending Vets Now Bury New Road…

I attended the Vets Now Bury New Road branch last night with my little dog Ella. Sadly she was very unwell, they scooped her off me and were nothing but professional, compassionate and truly beautiful people. I’ll never forget it, they made a really sad time more bearable with their hugs, kindness, tissues and cups of tea.
Every team member was just honestly so amazing and compassionate. Sadly little Ella was put to sleep cuddled on my knee, they didn’t rush anything explained everything. Honestly such amazing and professional people who we had never met before but I felt completely assured they were caring for Ella perfectly and she was is in loving and safe hands.

Dreadful experience in north Hykenam…

Dreadful experience in north Hykenam Lincoln branch caused my dachshund and myself distress the staff were aggressive kept the door locked so couldn’t get in for emergency appoint after 3 calls of our arrival finally unlocked the door & member of staff came out being rude then she called 2 large nurses who seized my dog took my dog into a room & wouldn’t allow me to be present they stated they did a blood test they did not then presented me with my dog stating he had to be put to sleep” demanded the £550 in advance while he was sitting by my side crying as distressed as we were inseparable )by bank card before then immediately putting him to sleep never received an invoice of costs then started doing hard sell on cremation and urns at £350+ the experience I will never recover from the object of their itinerary was to get money not to look after my pet they made me feel I had no choice? They lied with the information & were aggressive for money then on notes sent to my vet lied about my behaviour it seems that was more important than my dogs prognosis ?
It has now become suspicious that my dog was poisoned by a neighbour if the blood test had been done as stated if would have been proven .
Staff dreadful service dreadful money costs to poeple that are vulnerable

Once seen, my cat receiving pain relief which worked well for the 45 minute drive back home on Sunday 16th August.
Also advised me that be better getting x-ray at my own vet surgery as wouldn't be as expensive .

Great service by staff but at eyewatering prices

We paid £302.50 for a Saturday evening consultation, which is five times more than we paid for a consultation with our regular vets on the same morning. Both vets were competent and helpful. IVC Evidensia, who own Vets-Now, claim that out-of-hours prices are high primarily because of the cost of staff salaries. However, the factor of five mark-up from daytime rates at our own vet suggests to me that an unacceptably large part of the price goes towards delivering shareholder value. The market needs a substantially greater degree of regulation than it currently receives.

Mixed reviews

Can't fault the clinical care for my cat which had had an accident with a car. Eye-watering costs though, as a number of other reviews note. They've got you over a barrel really, knowing they can charge what they like, knowing you're going to pay, because you have no choice. And yes, I know OOH care costs more, but we can't control when pets need help can we?
