As a new customer I found the service excellent, a prompt and polite response to every query I had.
Moving home was stressful enough, thankfully YBS made that one less thing to worry about.
I was seen within a few minutes of entering the Manchester branch of YBS.
I wanted to set up an account, was shown what was on offer, had my ID confirmed and set up the account.
The staff were very helpful, friendly and efficient.
The branch is clean and comfortable.
Instructions for transfer of funds from Skipton BS were not followed by either party causing many phone calls without solution.
Ease of opening an account , guided through the whole procedure , online access and great interest rates

Different accounts were easily explained to me , giving me the best idea as to which was best for me
IT issues, human errors and security concerns.
Unfortunately, this is the third security issue in less than one year.
Firstly, my account and balance disappeared due to an error in transferring an ISA.
Secondly, my late father’s account appeared on my customer portal and app.
Thirdly, my password was not recognised. I changed my password to be told I hadn’t changed it, despite the new password allowing me to log in.
Soon after, that password was not recognised and my account was locked. The customer agent basically called me a liar and said their systems are never wrong.
I shall be moving my savings to a different financial institution with safer systems.

One star — repeated ISA transfer failures, contradictory explanations and no resolution
My wife and I have both experienced an appalling standard of service trying to transfer our cash ISAs from Yorkshire Building Society to Coventry.
YBS transferred part of my ISA but failed to transfer the remaining balance. None of my wife’s remaining ISA has reached Coventry.
The central issue is the same in both cases. Our current tax year subscriptions had already been transferred to Vida, yet YBS relied on the treatment of those subscriptions to reject or frustrate the remaining transfers.
We submitted requests correctly stating that the remaining funds did not include those subscriptions. When those requests were rejected, we submitted further requests on YBS’s requested alternative basis, expressly including them. Both approaches failed. Every available basis has been addressed, and the transfers still have not been completed.
The explanations have been inconsistent and the assurances worthless. My wife was told that her transfer was being processed and normally took seven working days. Coventry subsequently told her that YBS had described her ISA as “not transferable”. Another letter referred to technical issues. YBS then blamed the transfer form before providing another processing assurance. Still no transfer.
Meanwhile, we are losing interest because our money remains at YBS instead of earning the higher return we arranged elsewhere. My wife’s Coventry funding window has now expired, making the consequences considerably more serious than a simple administrative delay.
When she submitted a formal complaint and Letter Before Action, YBS’s response was to refer to an eight-week complaints timetable and tell her to telephone so they could investigate their own rejection. After weeks of chasing, being asked to do more of the legwork ourselves was infuriating.
We have spent an unreasonable amount of time trying to get YBS to carry out straightforward instructions. We have received repeated assurances, changing explanations and requests to resubmit paperwork, but no effective resolution.
In my experience, this is a deeply unreliable service with inadequate ownership of problems and little apparent regard for the financial consequences for customers. I would not entrust YBS with another ISA and would strongly advise anyone considering them to take this experience into account.
We have wasted hours on telephone calls and correspondence over several months. They have even refused to accept a legal letter before action, and kept it within the complaints procedure.
My wife is now outside of the funding window for CBS, losing thousand of pounds of interest annually.
We will take them to Court for resolution.

Yorkshire Building Society have closed the Heywood and Bury branches. This is very disappointing as we have always received good service from these branches. We don’t want to use online services but feel the Yorkshire Building Society are trying to force us into this. We will be looking very carefully at where to put our money in future
