We got a great deal and the communication throughout was amazing. Bobby kept in touch the whole way until we were fully up and running with our card machine for our new business, making the whole process really smooth and stress-free. I advise other business owners to exercise extreme caution and request a full cost breakdown before agreeing to a contract through 1st Business Connections. My contract with Valda Energy included a significant commission uplift on the daily standing charge which was not clearly disclosed during the sales process.
A supplier representative confirmed on a recorded call that this "significant uplift" was added to cover the broker's commission. When challenged, 1st Business Connections distanced themselves from the pricing rather than addressing the failure to disclose the financial impact on my daily rates. Following a dispute regarding these admissions, my contract was cancelled. "Disclosing" that a commission is paid is not the same as being transparent about how it is embedded into your rates. Always ask for the uninflated rate versus the broker-uplifted rate.
UPDATE: The broker (Dave) requested I remove this account, claiming the Valda representative "misinformed" me. However, the data suggests otherwise. The broker's contract carried a £3.75 standing charge and 32.56p unit rate, while the direct rate for the same period was £0.66 and 23.42p. It is difficult to accept "misinformation" when the broker's standing charge was nearly six times higher. Whether the broker or supplier added the uplift is a technicality; the price was heavily inflated by an undisclosed commission structure. After I challenged these figures, the contract was cancelled. I stand by this truthful account.
UPDATE (Jan 18th): The broker attempted to have this review removed by flagging it to Trustpilot as "not based on a genuine experience." I provided full evidence to Trustpilot’s Escalations Team, who manually investigated and formally verified the review as genuine. Despite this, the broker has continued to flag it.
UPDATE (Jan 21st): 1st Business Connections flagged this for "defamatory content." Trustpilot again ruled in my favour, confirming the review is not defamatory. Should this continue, I will seek a formal outcome from the Energy Ombudsman regarding their conduct.
UPDATE (Jan 24th): The broker flagged this a third time for "harmful or illegal content." Trustpilot once again ruled in my favour and reinstated it. As the broker has ignored warnings regarding this interference, I have escalated the commission dispute and their conduct to the Energy Ombudsman.
UPDATE (March 25th): FINAL OMBUDSMAN DECISION. The Energy Ombudsman has concluded its independent investigation and formally ruled in my favour, finding a customer service failing occurred. The investigator determined that 1st Business Connections Ltd "did not provide you with all of the required information in relation to the commission applicable to your contract during the sale of it." Specifically, while a total commission figure was mentioned, the broker failed to provide the necessary breakdown of how that commission acted as a price uplift on my daily rates.
The Ombudsman has ordered 1st Business Connections Ltd to issue a formal written apology for the service failure and make a financial payment to me as a gesture of goodwill. This independent ruling confirms my concerns regarding the lack of transparency were well-founded. Despite repeated attempts to flag this review as "lying" or "defamatory," a regulatory body has verified they failed in their duty to provide clear information. I hope this serves as a verified warning to others to insist on a full breakdown of all commission-led price uplifts.

The service from Jordan at 1st Business Connections has been exceptional and I can't thank him enough. For almost two months I've been going backwards and forwards between British Gas, Total Energies and British Gas Lite - all with their call centres apparently in Cape Town. After a 45 minute call today with Noor in South Africa or India I'm not sure my blood pressure was sky high at 197/111. Still no answers and seemingly no way forward. Fortunately someone directed me to Jordan and in a few hours he's resolved the whole situation. He's thoughtful, considerate, articulate and knows exactly what he's talking about.
