5 years after my first visit and I was…

5 years after my first visit and I was disappointed. The Calamari was chewy and the batter was crumbling and hardly stuck to the rings. The chips were nice and the Pizza was nice. The young team of waitress's were pleasant, but very loud, joking between themselves so seemed childish. This affected the ambiance as I felt I was eating in a school cafeteria rather than an Italian restaurant. One exception was the waitress wearing glasses, she didn't stop and remained professional. I would not return.

Service was very average

Service was very average. Not a particularly nice ambience. Weird music playing . Food was very average nothing you couldn't make at home for a fraction of the price. Won't be returning. Also kept smelling on odd smell. Turns out it was the waitress. Wasn'tjust a BO smell like an actual clinker smell. Do not go to this restaurant

A true Italian Gem

Thursday 18th September 2025 - Grill Night

After hearing countless suggestions to visit 22 The Square, Cross Hills, on the fringe of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, a friend and I decided to book a table at this very popular family owned Italian restaurant, and opted for their very popular Thursday Grill Night, our table was reserved for 6.30 pm,upon arrival we were greeted at the restaurant entrance with a smile and promptly guided to our table and given a selection of menus, all of which offered a varied, and extensive range of delicious options for both food and drink,

The restaurant itself has a lovely, happy feel about it, with subtle lighting, smart decor, and the soft sounds of people enjoying their evening, and all being looked after by their allocated member of staff, one particular member of staff who did stand out was a chap called Raj who was extremely polite, friendly, and had a professionalism that was quite simply second to none!(we later discovered that Raj is the actual proprietor of 22 The Square)

On to the food, this was the only dilemma of the evening as every meal that the staff walked past with looked and smelt amazing! I decided on the calamari starter which was cooked to perfection! My friend had the king prawns in garlic butter, again cooked to perfection, for the main course I had spotted another diner tucking in to a very well presented Calzone pizza so that was my mind made up! Prawn, chorizo, and a generous filling of mozzarella cheese with a delicious side sauce, absolutely divine! My friend decided on the roast chicken from the grill, all I have to say about that dish is wow! succulent char- grilled chicken, along with a generous amount of onion rings and fries, and presentation which was very impressive! another noted point was the service between courses was perfectly timed,

We were then asked if we would like our drinks replenished and also if we would like to see the dessert menu (which looked incredible) but due to the more than generous main course dishes we had just devoured, we simply had no room for dessert! (next time we will sample the wonderful desserts on offer and skip the starters!)

To summarize,

22 The Square is quite simply amazing in every aspect from start to finish and also extremely competitively priced for the standard of food being served,I think we have certainly found our new go to place when dining out! a true Italian gem!

Grazie all at 22 The Square we will be back very soon!

Absolutely divine

Every visit to 22 is an absolute pleasure, and that’s largely thanks to Sami, the brilliant main bartender. He’s always so warm, professional, and genuinely welcoming - it really adds something special to the experience. And his Pornstar Martini? Truly the best I’ve ever had and I’ve had them all over the world. The whole team at 22 is fantastic, but Sami’s attention to detail and service stands out every time. Highly recommend!

Local Restaurant Disappoints.

Our visit in May with a group of friends was only so-so although the greeting and service were great, before going again with friends we decided just the two of us to check it out first. Nice friendly welcome and quick offer of drinks and order taking. Shared pizza bread starter was lovely. It was grill night and I enjoyed my fillet steak my wife's Spaghetti King Prawns was a large hot dollop of over cooked pasta with plenty of large prawns in a fairly unexciting sauce.

A treat in the past for late diners was the extensive clean down at the end of service followed by a very thorough swilling of the floor. It's an open kitchen, the pass heated shelf is no longer used but cluttered with all manner of things and the utensils sit in what appears to be a greasy plastic tub. There were two 4 pint containers of cream out in the kitchen throughout our visit.

The whole place is looking tired now in need of a good clean and decoration, which is such a shame because it does have a lot going for it, but definitely looks unloved and lacking direction at the present.
