I was terrified as I have never worn a Kilt and my American family members had not either.

From the military minister we entered the shop we were looked after and I want to thank the staff for being so patient when I changed my mind.

The best staff and also the cost was crazy low. Half the price of MacGregor and mcduff and better kilts.

I will always be thankful to these people for making my big day special.

Hired 11 kilts for my wedding done all online, they double check you have everything as you pick it up so no items should be missing. One of the kilts was a little to big, but they told us as we picked it up to come back with anything that doesn't quite fit right. Everything was done and ready in time for the ceremony and the kilts looked great, flashes, broaches, sporrans are all matched to your choices so everyone looks the best they can. I would go again

Arranging wedding attire is a process that’s easy to become frustrated by, easy to find frustrating and often in these shops they are over formalised, overpriced and a daunting experience.
A1 Kilt Hire completely threw these fears and expectations out the window.
Our first impression when we walked in to the shop was a happy, welcoming friendly staff member wearing a Hawaiian shirt and a kilt.. nerves settled already at this point. His professionalism was fantastic and knew exactly when the time is right for to be more relaxed with a good sense of humour.
The pricing was the best we could find and matched with a level of service that you would expect from a far more expensive and “formal” shop. Communication was excellent from start to finish, everything was explained thoroughly and there was an emphasis placed on ensuring that we were fully supported from payment through to measurement and collection, with a simple returns process.
Understandably all businesses must make a profit to survive, however to find that the priority of this small business was delivering customer service (knowing that by doing so, there will be a positive impact on the business as a whole) was both welcoming and reassuring.
No pushy upselling, just amazing service and a positive lasting impression that helped to make our big day that bit easier.

Thank you for everything, we will return for any kilt hire formal wear that we need and would encourage everyone who may be unsure when it comes to picking your hire store.. these guys don’t disappoint.

I hired 3 kilts for my late father's funeral in June 2025. We needed to amend the delivery and collection dates as we needed to ensure we had the kilts in plenty of time before the funeral. I spoke to A1 Kilt Hire and they were very helpful, they adjusted the dates for me no problem. When the kilts arrived they were perfectly packaged and delivered next day. Amazing Service.
Unfortunately one of the kilts and jackets were too small - our fault not theirs - not a problem they arranged to send replacements next day. I could not fault the exceptional customer service we received. I would highly recommend A1 Kilt Hire.

Never ever hire from this company!!! We hired a kilt for a funeral only to be told once paid in full they needed an extra £35 deposit on top before the hire was released, after paying for all the funeral costs we had nothing left, a phone call later and not only did the kilt get cancelled. They refused to give the money back that we had already paid!! Absolutely disgusting!!! Also changed the kilt we had paid for!! Now my husband has nothing to wear and no money left to get anything with!! Thanks for nothing a1! I really do hope you sleep well .. money grabbers at best

Ruined my sons day

A kilt that was too small was sent home the day before my son’s communion. Lucky I got him to try it on and realised this before the shop closed.
We called them and it felt like they had it under control as they said they could swap it………WRONG!!!! The kilt that was supplied after the one that was too small was smelly (like damp), the waistcoat was dirty and far to big ( I assume this is all they had) and had to be pinned on to my son for a picture. The socks were not a pair….One was bigger than the other meaning one was rolled into his shoe and the other was stretched to within an inch of its life! The sporran would not go round my son either meaning he couldn’t wear one on his communion day.

When I was retuning the kilt on Monday morning I called the shop to make sure there was someone there that I could speak with about this disaster and was told yet Michael was there and he would help. So I got in my car and drove the 40mins to the shop only to be told he was not there and there wasn’t anything they can do about a refund as Michael deals with the complaints.

Not as much as an apology from the shop staff! In fact the woman there implied I wasn’t being truthful as she said “well the sporran goes round my waist” and I am truly delighted for her that a child’s sporran goes around her waist, however it was not her communion therefore an irrelevant point that only made the issue worse.

I am so disappointed with this full experience! My son’s communion has come and gone now so I can not change any of this however I would not recommend A1 kilts to anyone. People only hire a kilt for a special occasion and it is not worth the risk of ruining your day like ours was.

Excellent, thank you so much for helping us at such short notice. We were let down by macs last year but these guys fixed us up and at half the cost!!!

First of all I was able to get my kilts sorted less than 4 weeks before the wedding, which was a massive release. The guy who served us was very helpful. The service was outstanding in my honest opinion. I went in for 6 kilts and didn't pay as much as I though I'd have too either. The prices and quality of the outfits were top class. I would definitely recommend getting your kilts from this company. I returned them today and again the service was first class. Thanks again and I will definitely be back on the near future.

I’ve used A1 for a few years now and their customer service has always been first class.

I was left short for options for a kilt for the euros before heading away, and with no delay they had an option for me and even after I gave them the wrong size they instantly had a replacement for me to take away.

Service with a smile and always willing to help and go beyond than other kilt hire shops in the area.

The kilt was immaculate they have a wide variety of extras to purchase which I was also needing for the trip.

Definitely give this place your business as they also won’t be beaten on price either, miles ahead in comparison when it comes to that anywhere in Glasgow.

We hired a kilt from the Glasgow store for NYE, the delivery was faultless and communication and customer service were excellent. I really cant fault them. Quality of the product was brilliant. We had it delivered to where we were staying in Dunoon and there were no problems at all with delivery and we were kept up to date. Diana in the Glasgow store was outstanding every time i spoke to her or e mailed her about something.

From initial contact by phone to ask an odd question, to the delivery of the suit (it actually arrived a day before scheduled), the quality of the suit, the collection at the end of the hire and the prompt return of the £20 deposit; everything was smooth, professional and efficient.

If I need to hire a kilt suit in the future, I will definitely contact them again.

what a great company , used now for two years and the staff Diana is truly wonderful, i use this company for my formal hire and have always been amazed at the quality of service given. i would highly recommend these guys . I shall return again next year . From start to finish nothing but the best service ever.

In line with most other reviews - expect to have to chase (email and calls) the £20 deposit from A1 kilts. Very annoying and waste of your time as you are always "promised" someone will look into it. Terrible service.

Quality of the kilts is not great. They are one of the cheapest online so can be expected. But if you want something of decent quality I would look elsewhere as there are better options out there for an extra £20ish. You will also receive a better service from other providers

Found A1 Kilt Hire only 6 days before wedding after being let down by another company. Kilt, jacket, waistcoat and accessories delivered on time, and within three days of ordering, all packaged in a large plastic delivery box; picked up by the courier for return on Monday. £20 deposit returned into my account by Wednesday. Happy with the service

Where to start? If I could give them more than 5 ⭐️’s I would.

Being rather cautious about getting what you ask for when online ordering I make for a nightmare customer! Following ordering I either checked progress or changed my mind many times and each time was treated delightfully and patiently.

Having ordered costume online for the stage, I was expecting a fairly low quality, cheaply made product (especially in view of the very reasonable price!) but the product was excellent quality, delivered well in advance of the required date , and perfectly meeting my self measured size.

The £20 deposit came as a slight surprise but was returned quickly and without reminder.

Overall, first rate service, top quality, extremely reasonable. The product was needed for Burns Night as I was doing the ‘Address to the Haggis’. I was complimented many, many times on my appearance.

The detail of this review is because some of the previous reviews are unbelievable when compared with my experience. Finally I would not hesitate in recommending or personally repeating my experience. Thank you A1!

Ordered a kilt for a wedding and paid the required fee online then received an email asking me to pay £20 deposit, couldn't understand as to why this wasn't asked for on booking but carried on and paid this.

Kilt outfit arrived with no issues and in general I was happy and impressed with A1. Kilt was packaged up and returned on time.

Now, with a wedding your brain is on overdrive so the last thing I expected to have to do was chase up to have my £20 deposit returned. It took 2 emails to get this refunded over 2-week after the outfit had been returned.

I think if I didn't chase this £20 up it wouldn't have been returned to me, this seems to be a familiar pattern with A1 reading other reviews.

While the outfit was perfect and delivery too, this unnecessary chasing up for a £20 deposit soured the experience.
