Corfu Airport terrible experience

Corfu Airport office - It took 3 cars to get one that was adequate at best. It still had a number of minor faults but after an hour of form filling and taking photos of the two failed cars, and not being offered any upgrade or concession I took the car. On returning the car they pointed our some minor stone ships on the underside of the front bumper - not visible when standing in front of the car (or on my photo) but when you bend down and angle the camera upwards they were there. The car had paint faults, broken indicator lens, stained seats, and it's service was overdue. They told me to pay over 300 e for th damage or I would not get my 1400e excess deposit back. No boss to talk to, no customer service, just bad cars and bad service and bad management, procedures, policies. Like other reviewers here I have rented many cars in many countries (including Greece) with many companies this company has lost its way. I would not recommend them at all. If you have already booked, try and get out of it, or make sure you take hundreds of pictures and get on the floor and take photos of the underside.....

A very smooth rental experience

Just rented a Nissan for a week in Rhodes. From pick up at the airport to returning the car, all went smoothly. Staff were excellent and made no fuss when we declined the obligatory additional insurance cover offer.
We will be using them again for sure on our next visit.

Dishonest practices

Here is my complain sent to DiscoverCars.com regarding my recent experience with their partner ABBYCAR (Rhodes island). DiscoverCars.com accepted to refund me the extra 98 Euros Abbycar dishonestly charged me, and I thank them for that! DiscoverCar is currently investigating to ban this company from their reservation network. And I really hope they will!

"ABBYCAR did REFUSE to let us the car unless we pay an extra 98€ for the SAME services covered by the full insurance we already paid to you, despite our reservation with you and the voucher I provide them. They call this thing “Road Assist” (see attached document).

They argued that DiscoverCars wouldn’t come to help us in case we had an accident but ABBYCAR would… And that’s why all the customers have to pay for that.

There were other customers in the same situation, complaining. It seems that ABBYCAR agents are drilled to act this way, dishonestly, patiently waiting for the customer to give up. Quite efficient…

After 60 minutes of argument trying to keep my nerves, with my wife and 7 months baby waiting, I was forced to pay to end this unacceptable situation.

Furthermore, before that, we had to wait 1 hour for their shuttle to arrive at the airport before being transferred to the car rental office, and the babyseat we rented (75€) wasn't safe at all.

You should ban ABBYCAR from your reservation network, because of their dishonest practice, and lack of consideration for both your network reputation and customers.

Thank you for your help. I hope my feedback will help to avoid this problem to other people, specially as the touristic period is starting here in Rhodes."

Believe the scam reviews!

Believe the scam reviews!! Over 20 years of renting cars this is the first time we've actually been scammed for real. Shameful! Forced to purchase roadside assistance at Thessaloniki branch, this cost more than the rental even though we bought it from their own site. After emails to parent company it's clear they don't care so rent with them knowing you'll get screwed one way or another. Total rubbish! You've been warned!!

Ripped off in Rhodes

Paid £26 through a 3rd party car hire site for a weeks rental, got to pick up and was told it's a legal requirement in rhodes to have breakdown cover which i was charged a further £50.

Tried to query this but the lady on the desk made out that her English wasn't great. After signing for the car her English magically became perfect.

They have their own fuel station at the pick up point with inflated prices so please remember to fill up elsewhere before returning the car or you will pay a premium.
ABSOLOUTE RIP OFF MERCHANTS

The car we had initially booked was no longer available, no solution offered, and no refund. Horrible and very condescending staff. They hand you contracts with paying options with no explanation (over $250 extra). What's more, they don't accept all credit cards. Catastrophic from A to Z, skip it.

Staff lie, poor customer service

Booked a car via car flexi website. Purchased full insurance online. When I got to the counter in Athens the staff member told me the full insurance purchased is only 3rd party insurance and if I did not purchase additional insurance at the counter I will be liable for any damages.
Have now been told this was not necessary. The staff lied to me to make me buy extra insurance. Speaking with customer service via email they now refuse to reply to me after telling them what their staff has done.

I booked through DiscoverCars and bought premium insurance but when I got to the front desk I was told it is mandatory to purchase Roadside Assistance for €70 despite my booking confirmation stating I already have this included. They told me it was a legal requirement and I could not take the car without paying this.

After 10 minutes of me saying I'm not paying the €70 the woman at the desk said okay and then proceeded to take my credit card deposit which was €1,750. After this had went through she asked how am I paying the €70? I told her I am not paying the €70.

I showed her my insurance documents, I showed her a Google search stating it was not a legal requirement to have roadside assistance and she still wouldn't let me take the car.

I asked to speak with the manager who was no help, actually more rude and arrogant.

It was only at the point I walked away from the desk and started to call DiscoverCars that they said it's okay and I can take the car at my own risk... What an absolute joke! Trying to scam tourists!! Not the start to our holiday we wanted.

In Montenegro, as I am sure in all small countries, they do whatever they want. Paid for full insurance but don't have police report on minor scratch. They don't care, charge 580eur. Peter was agressive, low competence and didnt care about anything. Provided our personal information to 3rd party, including departure date etc. to enable them to blackmail us and demand money on our holiday. Horrific experience - no support, will rob you anywhere they can. no point getting cover or anything. Car old and broken. Had to replace screenwiper at own cost cause it flew off in the wind. Overall - borderline scam.

Avoid them

They refused to release the car I had booked because my credit card didn’t have my FULL name on it, but only an abbreviation of it! Sadly I am not called Ben Smith, I have a double barrel name and ALL my credit cards show an abbreviated version. Of course they hide behind T&C, but it’s a ridiculous claim.

They happily offered to sell me insurance (which I would pay with the same card…) and then they would release the car.

Doing business the very Greek way.

Absolutely appalling – avoid Abby Cars in Chania at all costs was by far the worst car hire…

This was by far the worst car hire experience I've ever had. Abby Cars handed over a vehicle with warning lights on the dashboard. When questioned, they casually told us to ignore them and "just call if there's a problem." Not exactly reassuring when you're about to drive around a foreign country.
Things went from bad to worse when we returned the car. We filled the tank at the petrol station right next door to their office, yet they claimed it wasn’t full. When I challenged this, they suddenly accused us of returning the car late. I disputed this too, but they insisted on deducting 30 euros from my deposit.
When I said I would dispute the charge, they withheld my credit card and refused to return the €1500 deposit. I spent an hour trying to reason with them, only to be stonewalled. In the end, I had to leave empty-handed or risk missing my flight.
Now I’ve had to cancel my card, order a replacement, and file a formal dispute over the unauthorised deduction. The whole ordeal was stressful, time-consuming, and completely unnecessary. They stated their system charges for an entire extra day even if the car is returned "one minute late." Utterly ridiculous.
Abby Cars' behaviour was unprofessional, aggressive, and deeply dishonest. Do yourself a favour – hire from a reputable company and avoid this shady operation altogether.

Avoid at any cost !!!

Abby car charged me 1500 euros instead of holding deposit. Opodo customer services did not support me. I had to deal with Abbycar directly. Emailed them a week ago. Still no response. They don’t pick up the calls either. Staff members at the fest very arrogant and rude. They forced us to buy additional insurance. They gave me a dirty car with oil engine and tire light on. They refused to change the car and told me that I should trust them as the car has no issues it’s just a light. I couldn’t enjoy the car , just parked it in the hotel and returned when it was time. They tried to find some issue to charge me for excess when i returned the car but luckily i have taken videos and pictures of the car when I collected it. Will never use their services again and hoping to get my money back in my account after all this. Do not ever rent from this company.

The worst rental ever

The worst rental ever! They didnt had the car at the airport. On our way back they didnt bring us to the airport. Never ever rent your car here!
When returning the car somewhere far from the airport they did not want to take us back to the airport. The contract stated that the car would be at the airport. More happened that was absolutely not okay. Do not rent there as a woman alone!!!!!

The car was fine but.....

The car was fine. Low budget and low cost, which we know and accepted. At pick up the lady said we had to take your roadside assistance package at 40 euros, it was compulsory she said. I produced the full contract and asked her to show me where it said compulsory. It didn't, she backed off but then insisted that the 1,000 euros excess actually be taken from my credit card rather than just blocked as is normal and indeed stated on the booking contract. Another couple hiring a car at the same time were also suffering from this same attempt to exploit a hirer. Our weeks holiday was spoilt by worrying if we would get our 1,000 euros back. Upon returning the car, it was checked and cleared and the 1,000 euros refunded to my credit card, but took three working days to arrive and as the exchange rate had changed I lost out £10.55. Had it been blocked as per the contract, this would not have happened, nor would I have had worried whilst trying to relax and enjoy my holiday. Upon returning the car, I asked the man to issue me paperwork confirming the car was returned undamaged and with the correct fuel in it. He did so, but reluctantly and kept asking why I wanted it. As a hire company you want all forms and documents sign before releasing the car to the hirer, why? We know why, so it's only good policy and customer service to do the same for the customer when returning the car. I felt a strong distrust towards the personnel at Abbycars. Be professional, this experience was not.

We rent a car for the period 11/04-22/04

We rent a car for the period 11-22/04/2025. With the arrival we were forced to pay road assisistance cover. When we returned the car for a scratch at the front bumper they charged us 477,17 euros. The behaviour was unacceptable and we were ripped off. Another family was charged with 150 euros due to delay pick up. They were coming from Manchester to Athens and there was 2 hours delay at the flight. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. Please avoid renting with them.

Extra fee's or no car

Rented a car via Travellink and payed for AXA ensurance.

When I am at the desk at Abbycar in Rhodos they refuse to give me the car unless I buy an additional insuranse at 50 Euro. This is to cover car towing, if needed.
I was forced to buy this extra insurance or else I would not get the car. So I did pay, even if I was already fully insured including towing of the car.

This is cheating! This is a way of selling the product at a compeditive price, and then add extra payments in order to make more money.

Avoid!!!

Booked and paid a 9 seat car, got a 7 seat car. Abbycar client support didn't made any effort to help. After an exchange of emails, the blame was placed on the previous customer who took the last 9-seater vehicle. They claim that there was no breach of contract. They stopped responding to emails, and I am still waiting for compensation.
