Best Intern Experience Ever

The Madrid program was truly one of the best decisions I decided to partake in. Not only was the company I was placed with an opportunity to work within the sports industry, but I had a team of fellow interns, coworkers, and supervisors that were both welcoming and offered support when needed. The role itself was truly beneficial and allowed me to learn and build the skillset needed to truly strengthen and build my resume.
I was also placed in an apartment that was clean, well-maintained, and that was in a great location within the city center. Everything you needed and everything you wanted to do and see was within walking distance, and the support staff within Madrid was always a message away and ready to help with anything.
Overall, the experience was truly a once in a lifetime experience that allowed me to see and experience an amazing city like Madrid, while at the same time learning within the sports industry and being in a role that helps shape my career path.

Pre-Med Experience at Seville

I had an exceptional experience with this program in Seville, especially because of the clinical opportunities it provided. The chance to gain hands-on clinical exposure in an international setting was incredibly valuable and made this program stand out from other study abroad options. Being able to observe and engage in healthcare environments while navigating a different medical system broadened my perspective on patient care and strengthened my interest in medicine.

The program staff and providers were consistently supportive and attentive, helping ensure that the clinical experience was both meaningful and well-organized. Their guidance made it easier to adapt to new expectations, communicate across language and cultural differences, and fully benefit from the opportunity. Beyond the clinical component, the cultural immersion and academic structure complemented the experience perfectly, allowing me to grow personally, professionally, and linguistically. I would highly recommend this program to any student looking for a study abroad experience that combines cultural immersion with impactful clinical exposure.

Great Internship Opportunity in Madrid

Adelante gave me the incredible opportunity to work with industry professionals in my field. I worked directly with professionals in my field and was fortunate enough to get to work with my first choice company. I was also able to make friends with all of my roommates and other's I met through networking around Madrid. In addition to the internship, there is the mandatory Spanish classes, which helped me strengthen my Spanish and meet new people from all walks of life who were also there to learn. The classes range from complete beginner to complete fluency which helped me as I was able to strengthen the basics and then move forward to where I believed I needed the most help.

A great experience!

My time abroad in Madrid with Adelante abroad was amazing. I couldn't have been more grateful with the organization I was placed with, and the friends I made with others in the program. Being located in the center of the city with easy access to public transportation made the experience even better! I’d recommend this trip to anyone who wants to experience what work abroad can look like and like to be pushed outside their comfort zone to try new things!

Summer Internship in Madrid

Having studied in Madrid the previous semester I really wanted to come back and have a different type of work experience during the summer. I enjoyed the laid back environment of my internship with Fundación Tríangulo yet I gained valuable insight about public health and sexual health in Spain, among many other skills which will benefit my future career/studies. I did enjoy the centrality of our apartment but it was quite small, I know this is normal for Madrid. I enjoyed all the new connections I made as well as the language experience. I will always keep a part of Madrid in my heart and would recommend this experience to anyone.

Adelante: launch pad…

A great launching pad for those who want to get involved in interning in a foreign country but who have no contacts or simply do not know where to start from. I did 3 months interning in Madrid from May to July (I warn my good folks that there is no air conditioning), which was a great fit for my compulsory year abroad as part of my university programme. The team are always happy to clear up any potential questions and help with the administrative process with your university, according to my experience, that is.

Summer Internship in Barcelona

I participated in an eight-week program in Barcelona, and I had the time of my life. Adelante found an internship that worked well with what my preferences were, and my local advisor was super helpful anytime I needed anything. I definitely recommend this program to those who have done some traveling before, especially solo travelers, because there is not a lot of guidance once you get there (but again, my advisor was great when I did have questions).

Madrid 2024

Okay so the first thing I can testify to is that Adelante Abroad is absolutely legit. My biggest fear with these things are being scammed-Adelante Abroad has been professional the whole way through. The interview process is quite smooth and the contacts are timely and very sweet. No disputes about money or any hidden fees or anything like that. They are also very affordable considering what other programs charge which is another reason I picked them. I like that they're not affiliated with any sort of university, they're a unique way to study abroad after college-an experience I always wanted but wasn't able to do until now! I also really love their flexibility-for the internship program you can pick how many months you want to intern, and they tailor the program to you. One bit of advice I would give is if you're picky about the sort of internship you want to do to be as involved as possible in the process, and respond timely to their emails.

Something really nice they provide in Madrid is a personal chaffeur from the airport when you land to where you'll be staying, which was so great not having to navigate foreign transportation after an international flight. Another thing they provided me was two weeks of Spanish immeresion classes before my internship. Both of these things were included in the price.

For me personally, my internship was in Music in Madrid. I'm a singer and wanted experience in the business side of things. For my particular internship, a large part of the work I did was online, so I took advantage and traveled to Portugal, Germany, and Morocco! Mandatory events I had to be in Madrid were musical events, some of which took place in churches and castles. I got along great with both my boss and my roommate thank goodness. I was provided really nice accomodations with a working professional near a metro in a very safe part of town.

One thing I will say is this internship works well if you're very independent. They do not hold your hand and fill your schedule with things, so if you're very adventurous and free, like me,this program will be a good fit for you. If you want a set schedule with things constantly planned out for you, maybe not.
If you're looking for something legit and affordable in a Spanish-speaking country to boost your resume and travel, I would recommend Adelante Abroad.

Scotland

the palcement was really fun and very informative. Edinburgh is beautiful; however, it rains a lot, so bring a rain jacket. There is so much to do, so take advantage of seeing Scotland by train. There is no need for super fancy clothes; at university, everyone is very casual. The apartment felt safe, and so did the city.

Public transportation is excellent, and getting around is easy. Make sure to visit the local markets and try some traditional Scottish food. The university facilities are top-notch, and there are plenty of resources available for research and study.

Social life is vibrant, with plenty of cafes, pubs, and cultural events to enjoy. The locals are friendly and welcoming, making it easy to feel at home. Overall, my experience was enriching both academically and personally. I highly recommend it to anyone considering a study or work opportunity in Edinburgh.

Adelante is poorly organized and doesn't follow through on what they say

Adelante offered to pay me for a review, but I did not take them up on the offer. I mention this because it explains why there are so many positive reviews when Adelante is poorly organized and doesn't follow through on what they say. They stretched certain definitions, or made it seem like things would be different than they were. I would not recommend them.

The “Comprehensive orientation meeting in country” that was promised in the orientation packet was a 20 minute zoom meeting. I never met the directora. We were told that classes started on Monday and given the address for a building with a room in it that Adelante had rented for the class. The “intensive spanish classes” were just me and the one other student doing the program with me at the time. But, we were at two completely different levels of Spanish learning, which was not taken into account.

Over the course of my time with the program, multiple students arrived whose Spanish was not at a level proficient enough to get by in Chile, where, in my experience, most people don’t speak English. Adelante told us that knowing Spanish was not necessary because everyone at Adelante speaks English and could help. However, they did not help. I believe they would say anything to get you to sign up.

Adelante completely fails to communicate anything with its students. I believe this is partially because Adelante is a side gig for most of the staff, and they themselves have no idea what is going on. One time I got an email from one member of Adelante’s staff saying that there were going to be more students coming, but that they would be in a different part of the city than me so I wouldn't meet them. I got another email from a different staff member saying that the students would in fact be staying in the same housing as me. (This housing was not an apartment or a homestay as advertised, it was a boarding house. Other Chilean people were also paying for rooms at this house, and there were no meals provided, at least not for me.)

Some people have internships for three days a week, or on the weekends, while for other people (like myself) it was 9-5 Monday through Friday. Out of the three people who did the program at the same time as me, two of them had their internships switched the day before. For one of these people it was the same type of internship but with a different company, and for the other it was a different topic entirely. Another student got an email from Adelante letting her know that her internship started the following day, when her internship had actually started a week before. For two students, their classes and internships overlapped, so they either had to skip out on learning the language, or they had to skip the first days of their internship. In terms of transportation to internships, one student had to take a micro (minibus) to a different part of the city, then walk to the bus station to take a bus out of the city, and then carpool with someone to get to her internship. Adelante didn't help her figure this out. We were simply told to use the micro. It would’ve been helpful to know that you have to wave the bus down when you want to get on and tell them when you want to get off, as they don’t stop.

The “events and excursions” that they claim to provide are two walking tours over the course of 8 weeks. Other things that they recommend on the website, like visits to Patagonia, are incredibly difficult to do as they require a plane ride and cost up to $1000. You can’t do this if your internship is full time, which you won’t know until the day of. Chileans I met were shocked that these kinds of trips were mentioned as a possibility, and at how little information was provided to me and how unorganized the program was.

The people at Adelante are not unkind, but some are certainly petty. I was left ‘on read’ mid conversation when I said I didn’t have any photos of my internship to share, and they disclose mental health information in their public responses to negative reviews in order to discredit the writers.

There are better options than Adelante.

Edit: This review has honestly been on my mind. At the end of the day, I wish I would have chosen an organization that would follow up with me about my bad experience to try to make it better for future applicants instead of trying to discredit me and my complaints.

Dear Aldeo, thank you for taking the time to leave the very extensive review about your program, and about others' programs too. We will stick to your program as the others you mention have not left negative reviews. Adelante does not offer to pay anyone for reviews, rather we offer a $5 amazon gift card since we know leaving a review means setting up an account and password, and is time consuming. This is standard across many industries, including ours, the Study Abroad industry. The thousands of positive reviews we have earned over 20 years in business are not due to the $5 amazon gift card being offered, in contrast these are reviews written by honest people that had great experiences while they improved their spanish, grew as individuals, and traveled to a new country; ultimately boosting their resume.
Every single other point you mention is disputable. What is obvious, and what I will take the time to respond to, is that there were things that you misunderstood, and for that I apologize as it is our job to make things clear to our candidates. Things such as the size of your Spanish class: you arrived during winter which is low season in Vina del Mar, Chile, and so smaller groups are the norm. Most take this as a positive and can result in better language acquisition as there is more customization possible in a smaller group. Further, Adelante never would say "Spanish is not necessary". In fact, published widely, including in every candidate's pre-departure Orientation materials, which you signed and initialed, is the fact that all candidates must be a B1 Spanish language level on arrival to be successful in a professional setting. We even send, and request results from, a language level test as part of the interview process. The other thing that was not understood was the housing and being given meals. We have a homestay option and an independent living option. You choose independent living which does not include meals.
We checked in with you regularly, during your 2 months, our shortest program, nearly every week, to which you responded to several of those in a positive way, see what you wrote here:
“Hi Aika,
The classes are going well! Marcela is really great. I'll definitely reach out to Mr. Zamora, I'm looking forward to starting my internship!”
“Hi Aika,
Sorry for the late reply. All is going well with the internship. Thanks for checking in! I will look at the reflection exercises now.”
The idea of the reviews is to improve the program. From all reports you did great at your internship and were satisfied with your program up until this review. It seems if things were so bad abroad, you would have let us know at the time so that we could rectify them. And you certainly wouldn't have responded positively to the check in emails only then to leave this kind of review. Thank you for the feedback, we will definitely make program details more clear for future candidates. We, as a Team, on two different continents, wish you the best of luck in all future endeavors.

Studying and interning with Adelante

Studying and interning with Adelante Abroad in Madrid, Spain, was an incredible experience. The two-month program provided a unique blend of academic learning and hands-on work at a local NGO. I gained valuable insights into Spanish culture and language, while also contributing to meaningful projects that made a difference in the community. The staff and mentors were supportive and knowledgeable, creating an environment that encouraged growth and learning. The experience not only enhanced my professional skills but also enriched my personal perspective, making it an unforgettable journey.

My experience with adelante abroad was…

My experience with adelante abroad was much different than I expected. I was excited to come to Seville with an already organized internship and plans for my 8 weeks here, however when I got here, my internship was not finalized. Even though I was told I would have an internship relating to my major, when I got here they told me my internship might not work out and were planning on putting me in an internship completely unrelated to my interests. Eventually I was able to do my initial internship, but didn’t allow me to do what I was expecting to do and I did not do what I was told I would. Additionally, adelante abroad was extremely disorganized and communicated very poorly. I felt very lost and uncertain on what I was supposed to be doing at first, if it weren’t for the friends I made here.

Hannah, thank you for taking the time to write Reviews and we do apologize for your feelings of uncertainty! Your internship was contracted and finalized, as you know. Psychology placements in Europe require more extra steps than any other internship sector: they are serious placements as candidates are working abroad, and in another language, with individuals and groups who are in some form of distress and/or diagnosed with various mental and emotional issues. We have to be double careful! As you state you interned right where you were originally contracted, no changes there, however on arrival the Clinica had a few more requirements that we were not made aware of until your arrival. In an effort to be totally transparent, we let you know about these as we worked on complying with those extra requests so your contacted internship could start on time, which it did. It is clear this could have been confusing and again, we do apologize for that, truly. We know from your work assignment Doctora that they were happy with your work, and though you didn’t reply to any of our regular checking in emails we know from 20 plus years providing this program, that your time interning abroad will benefit you hugely professionally as well as personally (those friends you made in Sevilla, hopefully you are still in contact with them!)

Veronica, from your other reviews we know you enjoyed your time in the Equine classes and learning about riding this Summer with us in Scotland. This marks year 15 that we have sent students abroad to do Equine in Scotland! The final program dates were set and published in November 2023 for the Summer 2024 program. Also, we offered several meet and greets for the whole group, via Zoom, three in total, sending out invites to all of them. These are not mandatory and we understand if some cannot make the dates and times, which is why we make sure to organize three of them. As to transportation in and around Scotland, bus and train times are provided to you in the “Arrival Info” sheet we send out to you before you depart, it is outlined for all of you in the Orientation meeting your first day abroad, and is also widely available online. Thank you again for taking the time to complete a Review and we are certain your time abroad with us was lifechanging and one you won’t soon forget.
