Love them, returning customer

Im really surprised by people experiences on here. I got my first set or headphones just before Covid hit us, prior to that i was in the gym regularly but from this point I started running. They were an absolute ray of sunshine, I managed to get good distances and the charge lasted a half marathon so I was happy, however a rattling noise started. I contacted customer services and a replacement was sent out with no issues at all, this new pair I have had for years and still no issues however I have been very tempted by the swimming version. I have just got them, the sound quality is brilliant as it was for the old pair and im just uploading some music as the swimming function I believe can only be used with the MP3 function. These are great, when out running, you can still hear the world around to be careful and in the gym, I put ear plugs in and im in my own little world, ignoring the rubbish gym music and irritating chatters who love to talk as loud as they can. Access to good music whilst training 100% helps me get to my goals so im happy. 4 stars only because the charger for the swimmer version is different to the older version, which now means I have to buy spares, would have been a 5 star if they just include 2 chargers.

Too fragile

I had the same experience as Burt - I have had three pairs of AfterShokz break on me; all of them failed to take any charge after about 50 hours of use. The first two sets were replaced under warranty but I've given up now the third have broken. They were good when they worked so I hope they fix the charging issue.

Don’t expect them to last…..

When these headphones work, they are great. Unfortunately, they just don’t last.

I was given 2 replacement pairs within the 2 year warranty period. One month before the warranty expired I was told the third pair didn’t come with a warranty.

The third pair failed after 3 months and Aftershokz refuse to even look at repairing or replacement.

I don’t know anyone whose pair has lasted more than 2 years.

Non-repairable headphones

I bought a pair of Air shokz but the rubber cover has come loose on one of the "bone conducting" parts, so I contacted the company asking if I could send them off for repair. I'm happy to pay for any repair. However Aftershokz replied (twice) saying that they DO NOT offer a repair service. So I'm stuck with a pair of headphones now, where water / sweat / damp can get inside the rubber covering and into the workings. I find the attitude of the "contact dept" to be very poor and I certainly can't recommend this company to anyone.

Nightmare customer service

While the product itself may be of high quality but expensive at the same time, I must caution potential buyers about their customer service. Dealing with them was nothing short of a nightmare - they displayed arrogance, ignorance, and a complete lack of focus on addressing customer concerns. Furthermore, there seemed to be no established complaints procedure or escalation process in place.

Navigating their customer support felt like an exhausting ordeal that drained both time and patience. In my case, it took a staggering 22 emails and the looming threat of legal action before they finally issued a refund.

Great sound quality but stopped working

Great sound quality but stopped working just after 2 years after they were purchased, so more less as soon as warrantee expired... No option for repair for a pretty expensive product. I have a £25 pair of headphones that have lasted longer and are nearly as good quality, I won't be replacing the aftershocks.

Aftershokz Aeroplex

Both my husband and myself have a pair of Aeroplex costing £149 a pair. Whilst they were brilliant whilst working when running, they both developed a charging fault just after the warranty expired.
Headphones need charging, charge until blue light shows. Try to use them and get low charge message and headphones turn off. Customer services basically said tough they are out of warranty. So £149 for 2 year use using them 3 times a week is too expensive in my opinion and won’t be buying again. And I had recommended them to friends and family who bought them and now I feel upset that they may have faulty products too.

I have a pair open run pro headphones

I have a pair open run pro headphones. I absolutely love them. The sound quality is great, obviously it is what it is with an open ear headphone with some trouble if it's louder... but this means they're so much safer when I am cycling running etc... the charging is amazing. Battery life amazing. The buttons for volume and song choice are great. I will probably buy another pair and I recommend them to friends all the time.

Farcical to-and-fro with customer services.

Headphones randomly activating the 'volume-down' or "-" button. After explaining in detail to customer services, they seemed to be unable to understand a detailed description of the problem and wanted me to supply a video of the problem. This is problematic in itself as the headphones aren't really loud enough to record on a phone while pointing the phone camera at the headphones to demonstrate. After getting fed up with the farcical to-and-fro, I just went and got a refund from Argos. Shame as they've gone up £20 so if I replace I'll be out of pocket.

Great customer service

My headset Aftershokz Air failed after 2 years and a couple of days (just outside of 2-year warranty).
I emailed the customer service desk for help - we exchanged a couple of videos of me trying various tests to get the headset powered up. Nothing worked then a couple of days later I was sent a replacement. Really pleased, very easy and much appreciated.

Bought a pair of Titanium Aftershokz…

Bought a pair of Titanium Aftershokz via Amazon in Nov 21.Loved wearing them during my running. Stopped getting any sound in one ear. Contacted the company and after showing proof of purchase and receipt , the company agreed to send me a replacement set. Also had registered the warranty and kept a copy. The process from start to finish was around two weeks. Happy with the service but lucky I kept the receipts and warranty details.

Headset damaged following their own instructions, but they refuse to do anything about it

Bought some opencomms from ebay. They worked fine.

Then decided to connect to 2 devices, multipoint.

Following shokz own online instructions it told me to first reset the device. After doing that, the voice no longer told me I was in pairing mode, just silence.

After trying day after day to see if more resets would fix the problem, I saw the red/blue lights flashing to indicate pairing mode, not easy to see when they are on your head and you are listening to voice prompts!!

At that point, I did manage to pair to 2 devices but the effort was hardly worth it as the max volume level is now down to very low levels, so I cannot hear what’s being said.

Contacting their support service can best be described as impossible. It took them over 2 weeks to respond, and when they did they were more interested in where I was located, then fixing the problem (yes, the problem that they had caused with their own instructions).

Then they basically ignored what I was asking, and kept telling me that I could not make a warranty claim, something I had never asked for.

Shokz, AfterShokz, whatever they call themselves, it doesn’t really matter. The most shocking thing is their level of service, which is just about zero. Be careful while following any of their own online instructions because even though you and I would expect those to not damage the very equipment they were written for, somehow Shokz thinks its okay to cause the damage, then walk away and leave me with a non-working headset.

The final analysis, a s**t company providing very poor after service for flimsy products that just stop working. A waste of money! Don’t buy!

P.S. My first draft was refused with the message "Your review contains inappropriate language." Trust me, the language was very appropriate for this company and their products. I know its not spelt with a *

Awful/non existent customer service

Awful customer service for what had been a good product.

I bought my Shokz headphones in January and used them 2-3 times a week for running. They then started to fail to charge in August unless I placed the cable in just the right way and after charging automatically started turning on. I reported this and got the standard acknowledgement email, but over a week later have heard nothing. I have emailed the customer service email linked from the acknowledgement email and still nothing. It's a real shame as I enjoyed using these, but it feels like once they have your money, that's that...

Warranty not honoured

Bought a brand new & unused (still sealed) pair of Aeropex AS800 off of an eBay shop in May 2021 and I registered them right away, in order to validate the 2 year manufacturer warranty.

They failed to work in March 2022, but not a problem (or so I thought) they’re covered by a 2yr warranty from the manufacturer.

I sent in the report using their website, with screen grab of my warranty registration.

I was informed that because I hadn’t bought them from an authorised seller (as listed on their website) that they wouldn’t honour the warranty.

I did challenge this but got nowhere.

Surely, the warranty is to do with the quality of manufacture, and wherever you buy from it won’t alter the quality control etc. when they’re manufactured?

I also think it is unreasonable to expect anyone to trawl a manufacturers website before purchase to see if they’re buying from the right place.

Having previously had this issue, why don’t Aftershokz raise this at the time of registering the warranty, so you can return the item if needs be (it should be made clear on the packaging!)

Some reservations but generally a great experience

I have some sympathy with the negative reviews for AfterShokz on this platform. The product itself is produced in China, and the often questionable standard of English on their website suggests that there may not be any dedicated customer support based in the UK. There certainly isn't a phone number available. Moreover, my first set of AfterShokz Air headphones only lasted six months before one of the rubber pads fell off. These pads apparently cannot just be put back on - a design flaw which clearly undermines the durability of the product.

Despite all that, my own experience with Aftershokz customer service was outstanding. I first alerted them to the problem via email on a Sunday evening, received my first reply at 7am the following morning, and have just now received a replacement set of headphones (which work perfectly) on Thursday. All they needed was the warranty number and proof of purchase, which I had already provided by registering the product online. I am very impressed by the promptness of the service, which ensured I was only out of action for three days.

The headphones themselves are not of the best build quality, as seen above from the rubber pad falling off. And you shouldn't buy them if you are after really great audio quality. However, I have found them to be an indispensable aid to my commute: indeed, they have helped me get through my considerable podcast backlog while cycling to work! Most importantly, I feel safe wearing them on my bike, which would certainly not be the case with ordinary in-ear/on-ear headphones which block out ambient noise from traffic and pedestrians. AfterShokz headphones are entirely workable and suitable for their purpose, and while their cost may be quite steep, in my view it is worth it in order to stay safe on the roads.

Based purely on my own experience, and despite some reservations, I would certainly recommend this product.
