Beware of imposter, shady, travel support businesses!

I had a flight cancelled the evening of 7/25. I searched up direct airline customer service numbers to rebook and called "American" which ended up being AirTravelMarts. It was unclear both on the search summary and once I'd called them that they were not the airline directly as they never stated on the call. Down to the wire with rebooking availability, I went ahead with my info and agreed to the cost of the flight via email.

It was not until putting in expense reports and balancing credit card statements at the end of travel that I realized there were red flags - the email it came from was 'airtravelmarts', there was fine print that they were a 3rd party (which I had read and thought 'contractor' within American because they do that), and the separated $149 fee charged as "air ticket".

I called the airline and got the receipt which was for the expected cost. Then I called AirTravelMarts to discuss the additional $149 and what this was. They said it was airline fees and taxes and could not be refunded. Considering I had the true receipt (which had not been sent originally) that showed the actual airline's broken out fees, this was not the case and I called the company out for this being a charged fee to them, that they blanketed under the name "air ticket" and charged separately for. I escalated this dispute requesting refund for the fee and they could not handle on the call, said that they would review the dispute and call back within 2 hours - this clearly did not happen.

Be wary of this company who are hiding under the veils of the true airline companies and charging for absolutely no service that could not be done directly through the airline itself. They are preying on those in situations like mine, with cancelled flights and limited options to turnaround something quickly, and they don't care at all about how they are making a buck.
