Family law...

Helen was appointed as my family law solicitor from the Stockport branch and she was meticulous. Went through statements with a fine tooth comb and guaranteed I got to keep my child safe which is all I ever wanted. I'm so grateful

Hi I just wanted to leave a compliment…

Hi I just wanted to leave a compliment about my recent sale and purchase of properties. My family have used the services of the firm on a number of occasions so it was a no brainer to give instructions on the above. Unfortunately my sale and purchase did not go as smoothly as expected due to delays brought on by my buyer and seller. However Janine Murphy went the extra mile in ensuring exchange and completion went through. I want to thank Janine for being such an amazing solicitor she is professional and calm and showed so much care I knew I was in safe hands. Also thanks to Sarah and Dani who made calls to me during the process. A huge thanks again from a very satisfied client Janine and your team are AMAZING!!!!!! Robert Broughton

We have used Alfred Newton since 2017…

We have used Alfred Newton since 2017 for both the purchase and sale of our home, and for acquiring a parcel of land in between. Janine Murphy together with her entire team were incredibly professional and responsive throughout, providing clear and thorough advice at every step. We would highly recommend Alfred Newton to anyone.

Do not use the barristers

Although I thought the actual firm was okay, (sometimes a little slow at dealing with things and emails etc when you need them to), it was actually the barristers that were a total let down.
I think I would have been better represented by my paralegal, Charlotte Kerr, during my hearings instead of unprepared barristers who stepped in and made some mammoth errors.
The advice Charlotte had been giving me for months was consistent and made a lot more sense than the advice given to me by the barristers prior and during the hearings.
My guess is that the barristers were giving advice based on what made their jobs easier, however they aren't being paid thousands to have an easy ride.
The barrister who represented me for the final hearing, Georgia Griffiths, was threatening me with what could have been a potential 'shared care' arrangement for a 17 month old breastfed baby who had never spent a night away from her mother. I am struggling to see what judge would order a baby under 2 be taken from their mother, not to mention the proven safeguarding issues with the fathers side, involving chronic substance misuse, social services restrictions, an incident and a chronic excessive test result only 8 months prior to this hearing. If the barrister does not even know how to secure a majority care for the mother in a case as such, this is very concerning. Aside from this the mother was not at work and the father working full time therefore unable to care for the baby.
Even before the father's chronic excessive alcohol test result, many legal experts had said the case would never be one of a shared care.
The barrister also contradicted herself by claiming that if the mother was to oppose the Cafcass recommendations, then custody could go more in favour of the father, even though it was clear I was a genuiely concerned mother, and was not suddenly going to trust a proven alcoholic with my baby unsupervised. However, at the same time she claimed that the father's abusive behaviour and false allegations as well as proven contempt of court, would not go against him since the courts do not care about these things?
On top of this, the same barrister had not read the cafcass recommendations properly before negotiations and so gave the father an extra full day with the baby. The recommendations were from wed eve till Fri morning and she negotiated until 6pm on a Friday, which would have drastically shortened my weekend with my daughter, meaning I could never spend Friday nights with her. This also would have made my life incredibly inconvenient.
I reiterate, this barrister was being paid to represent me but made every effort to get a much better deal for the father which seemed very odd indeed.
There were other things such as trying to gain him more access on Christmas day unnecessarily, shaming me for booking holidays with my daughter when I was always told by paralegals, solicitors, barristers, support workers that the 'live with order' would be in the bag, as was originally recommend by Cafcass until the father showed only a few months worth of reduced alcohol consumption.
I apparently had to make all of his time up to him, however the same did not need to be reciprocated.
I definitely would not recommend this barrister and I think the firm should stick to using their own team.

House purchase

I have just gone through purchasing my first home and makensie has been amazing through everything single part of it.
Through chasing on the delays and dealing with queries, explaining everything to me and ensuring everything was clear throughout the whole process.
I couldn’t recommend them more and I’m so happy with all of the communication throughout the process and all the help and support I have received throughout a naturally stressful time in life

Your usual reply is that you believe I was never a client of your company,I’m sorry to disappoint you with your lame response but I was indeed a client and can confirm your company was USLESS and beyond incompetent. I shared this review to protect others from my diabolical experience and for no other reason than it’s a FACT.
