I booked Almond n Sons to provide catering, a DJ, and decorations for my nan’s 60th birthday. My nan is on palliative care with terminal cancer. The service was extremely poor, and despite repeated promises, I have still not received my refund.
The company insisted they would only refund my deposit after collecting their food trays. I messaged them continuously for two days before the trays were finally collected – during this time food was left rotting in the venue. They had already promised me a refund for missing food and even apologised for the DJ, who refused to change music. However, they repeatedly lied, claiming they had been in contact with the venue and attempted collection. Once they eventually collected the trays, they delayed a further two days before saying they still had not looked to see if the trays were in a good condition. Once they had checked the trays they said “I will refund you once I get a chance”.
The food was appalling. The scouse was lumpy, the curry contained hardly any meat or vegetables, and the rice was stuck to the tray. The hot trays did not feed anywhere near the 50 people each they were supposed to. Some items were missing, while others were substituted without even telling me. The quality was disgusting – I would not have given it to my dog.
The DJ was just as bad. When we asked them to change the music, they said: “this is what she wants 🤣🤣” and was very rude to everybody who spoke to him– completely unprofessional.
After waiting five days from when the trays should have been collected, I contacted my bank. Almond n Sons then claimed they could not refund me because their account was “frozen.” My bank confirmed their account had already been unfrozen. When I challenged the company, they continued to deny it. My bank advised that if the account was still frozen, it was likely because of another investigation – or because the company did not have the funds to pay me back.
I later discovered several negative reviews describing the same pattern: failure to refund, failure to compensate for cancelled events, and customers being blocked when they chased payment. One review described a wedding that was ruined when Almond n Sons sent a child to DJ, delivered the buffet 90 minutes late in a taxi with cold and missing food, and left it without set-up or utensils – the DJ was even expected to handle the food. Like me, they reported that trays of food were left to rot at the venue for days.
The company never once asked for my bank details to process a refund. Instead, they had me transfer money into two different accounts under two different names, claiming they were having “issues with Monzo” and were temporarily using a personal account.
I messaged them again today warning I would go to the police if I was not refunded. They read my message but ignored it.
This party was meant to be a special occasion for my nan, but instead my family spent over £1,000 on unsafe food, missing items, and an unprofessional DJ. The company has refused to refund me, lied about their bank account being frozen, and there is clear evidence of repeated dishonest behaviour
