If I could give it ten stars I would

If I could give it ten stars I would. I'm a new author but have been writing RPG adventures for over 30 years. I did some searching on the web and you tube, asked a couple of AI models for information.

I will say that it does have a deep learning curve for the advanced features but the organization and layout is FANtastic. It has a Codex for characters, locations, objects and so on. A snippets section for quick thoughts, notes, and so on.

Another caveat is that it is entirely web-based so you need internet to use it. My solution is that if I don't have it, I can bang out notes, characters, etc. in Notepad, Word, etc and paste it in when I'm back online.

Acts, Chapters, and scenes are a snap. You can literally dive right in.

AI integration through things like Open Router, and you can bring your own key from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and about a billion others. :)

Too many things I love about the product, and can't possibly say enough.

As far as learning, youtube is your best friend. They have a great channel, lots of users who have great tricks and tips, and a discord channel.

I tried a couple of others, but they didn't scale like this did. It just works.

Misleading AI Platform and False Advertising

I’m writing this review to formally warn other writers, authors, and publishers about my experience with NovelCrafter, a platform that promises full eBook generation powered by AI, but in reality, delivers nothing even remotely close to what it advertises.

I joined NovelCrafter after reading their public claims stating that users could “generate entire eBooks automatically using outlines, chapters, and contextual notes.” Based on that, I spent hours carefully building a complete and detailed book structure: acts, chapters, subchapters, and even technical notes, exactly as the platform suggested.

However, the AI generated only a few random lines per chapter, completely ignoring the outline, context, and all the preparatory work. The result was a handful of meaningless sentences with no logical progression, no narrative flow, and no connection to the uploaded material.

This is not a user input problem. It’s a systemic design flaw in the platform.
The AI does not actually read, parse, or process the contextual data provided, even though the platform visually encourages users to spend hours entering it. It behaves like a restricted token prompt system that disregards more than 90% of the input.

If these limitations exist (and clearly they do), they should be stated openly before users pay.
Instead, NovelCrafter’s marketing continues to mislead people with language like “create your entire book with AI” and “turn your outline into a complete manuscript.” This is false, deceptive, and unethical advertising.

Here’s what I’ve personally confirmed:
• The Outline Import and Chapter Management tools do not influence the generated content in any measurable way.
• The AI output is limited to very short, disconnected segments that bear no relation to the uploaded structure.
• There is no disclaimer or warning about these technical limitations anywhere during sign-up or payment.
• The time users spend preparing outlines, metadata, and acts is completely wasted, as none of that information is used by the AI model.

As an author and publisher, I find this unacceptable.
The platform’s user interface and marketing are polished, but the core product functionality does not match the claims made on its website, nor does it deliver the expected integration with OpenAI’s API.

I have already submitted a formal written complaint demanding a technical explanation and a refund, including:
1. How NovelCrafter actually processes (or fails to process) user-provided outlines and notes.
2. What real context window or token limit is being imposed.
3. Why these limitations are not disclosed to users before payment.

Until these issues are addressed, I strongly recommend that other writers, publishers, and content creators avoid investing their time or money in NovelCrafter.

This is not simply a bad product, it is a case of misrepresentation and a failure of transparency. Users deserve better clarity, especially when real money and creative work are involved.
If this review helps even one other writer avoid wasting their time and credits, it will have served its purpose.
