Surprisingly effective and easy to stick with

Honestly didn’t expect much when I signed up, but Babbel surprised me. I’ve been using it for a few weeks and I can already form basic sentences, which is motivating. The bite-sized lessons make it easy to fit into my day, even with a busy schedule. Feels more like learning something useful rather than just playing a game.

Satisfaction Totale

I am enjoying Babbel tremendously. The teaching is very methodical and thorough and the exercises are very helpful. The grammar section is to die for and the teachers’ voices are beautiful. No complaints so far especially after I discovered that there is a comprehensive section on ‘subjonctif’! Thank you

Hard to be a beginner

I am taking a begginer course in Swedish and lessonns seems very advanced for someone who has no experience with the languae.

In general I like this app, but I am facing already very complicated sentences and I struggle with that (And I am on lesson 3...)

Hi Marcelina,

Thanks for sharing your feedback.

If the "Beginner" course is too advanced, browse and switch to a different course, such as "Beginner 1" if you are in "Beginner 2," or try a "Newcomer" level if available.

You can change this by clicking the arrow next to the course name on the Learn tab. 🙂️

The best approach is to stop attempting to push through and instead switch to review, repeat lessons, or change course levels!

Lesson structure is somehow repetitive & vocabulary use examples could be better

Lesson structure is somehow repetitive. I find that vocabulary is learnt a bit in isolation, in that words are presented but it could be better if after introducing them, this would be followed by more examples of useful sentences and uses of the word.

Well structured courses including grammar, not just learning words

Well structured courses and good content. Compared to other apps, it does seem as if the examples are more realistic.

Other apps I tried to use came with silly sentences like "You really like that old tree" ... uhm, right.

Babbel definitely seems like it's using much better sentences.

One thing that could be improved (my opinion only of course), compared with other apps, is perhaps add more exercises. What I mean is, especially when new grammar concepts are explained in a lesson, I would welcome it if there was a section of exercises specifically dedicated to that bit of grammer.

Perhaps it's there and I'm just a dumb user who didn't find it yet :). I found the "daily vocab workout" bit. That's fine but a bit limited.

Update after very quick answer from Babbel: Yup, found it, thank you, the problem was indeed me!

Curious how soon the “more content coming soon” will happen, looking forward to being able to practice more the different past tenses and the mysterious Spanish subjunctivo ;-).

In any case, thank you team Babbel!

I now combine what I have learnt with…

I now combine what I have learnt with listening to IGA supermarket Kronan Mellerud advertisement. This gives me real time experience with the language, not that I want to buy anything or otherwise interested in their product. I get this from my facebook contact. It works & is free so why not use it. everything is good but I can't find any other podcast in Swedish

Babbel actually helps with grammar…

Babbel actually helps with grammar, pronouns, how to conjugate verbs in a structural learning method compared to other language learning apps. The word bank is extremely useful as well :)

Moved across to Babbel from Duolingo

Moved across to Babbel from Duolingo. I like the way you can set learning areas to how you will actually want to use use the language (travel) - not having to put up with random sentences and subjects that will not benefit my learning.
The only area I would like to see improved is having a lot more podcasts available about everyday situations for example - buying train tickets, that I could just plug in and listen to when I’m at the gym or out walking.
Only a minor niggle, and still think Babbel is a great language app and the way forward for me.

OK, but only OK!

The learning 'style' is OK, but only OK. Rather repetitive and definitely predictable, so doesn't always encourage 'learning' French only learning thf pattern of what's coming.

Getting on well with the app

Getting on well with the app, also using Duolingo, I feel using two methods is useful. I do find the Babbel app does sometimes move on too quickly before a chance to read properly has been given, this is annoying.

Hello,

Thanks for your message.

We're glad to hear you're enjoying Babbel and combining it with other resources for your language learning journey! We understand it can be frustrating when the app moves on before you've had a chance to read everything.

Babbel lessons are designed to automatically progress to the next word or exercise, but you can change this setting if you'd prefer to move through lessons manually. You can change this feature on the Babbel app by tapping the **profile icon** and going to **Settings**.

We hope this helps - Happy learning!

Very frustrated with this language…

Very frustrated with this language course. There is very little guidance in how to navigate the topics and content. The course does not build on solid repetition so my progress is slow. The voice recognition is frustrating too.
My girlfriend started using Duolingo at the same time and she is streaks ahead of me and she has fun. I should have gone with that too.

Hi Nathan,

Thank you for your message.

We're sorry to hear that you're feeling frustrated with your Babbel course experience. We understand how important it is to feel guided and see steady progress when learning a new language.

Here are some tips that might help you get more out of Babbel:

- **Set a clear motivation:** Think about why you want to learn this language and keep your goals visible. This can help you stay focused and motivated.
- **Build a daily habit:** Even short, regular sessions (like 15 minutes a day) can make a big difference. Babbel offers learning reminders to help you stay on track.
- **Use the Review feature:** Regularly revisiting previous lessons helps reinforce what you've learned. Babbel's Review tool uses spaced repetition to help you remember vocabulary long-term.
- **Immerse yourself:** Try watching shows, listening to podcasts, or writing lists in your target language. The more you use the language in daily life, the faster you'll progress.
- **Practice speaking:** If voice recognition is frustrating, try practicing with a partner or speaking out loud on your own to build confidence.

Babbel is very effective

I have been using Babbel for nearly two months. Having changed from Duolingo.

Overall I am very pleased,

I like the variety within Babbel, plus the ability to replay lessons.

However I have needed to compliment Babbel with two additional learning resources. These being Rapid Spanish earworms. Which exploits music
and coffee break Spanish for simple reinforcement.

Complimented resources have been very beneficial

Hi Steven,

Thank you for sharing your experience with Babbel!

It's wonderful to hear that you're enjoying the variety and replay options in our lessons. Using additional resources is a great way to reinforce your learning - many learners find that combining different methods helps them progress even faster.

Babbel also offers a built-in Review feature that uses spaced repetition to help you memorise vocabulary more effectively. Every time you complete a lesson, new words are added to your Review manager, so you can practise them at the right intervals. You can also supplement your learning by labelling items at home, keeping a vocabulary diary, or engaging in conversations with native speakers.

If you’d like more tips, you can read about our Review feature and other suggestions here: https://support.babbel.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360037496932-Memorising-vocabulary

Keep up the great work on your language journey! If you have any questions or need more advice, feel free to reach out. Happy learning!

Give me more grammar

At present I seem to be doing endless boring exercises rather than learning. I found that I seem to have "completed the course" quickly but am not confident about grammar at all. The exercise I am doing now are largely just vocabulary, where I want detailed sections on grammar

Hi there,

Thank you for your message.

We understand how important it is to feel confident with grammar while learning a new language. Babbel offers a dedicated feature called the Grammar Guide, which provides clear explanations and examples for different grammar topics. You can find it in the **Practice** tab on the app or the **Explore** tab on the website, and then select the grammar topic you’d like to review. This feature is especially designed for beginners (A1/A2) and is currently available for German, Spanish, and French.

You can repeat the material as often as you like to strengthen your understanding. Here’s more information if you’d like to take a look: https://support.babbel.com/hc/en-gb/articles/19260489559058-Grammar-Guide

We hope this helps you get more out of your learning experience. If you have any other questions or need tips on focusing more on grammar, just let me know!
