It doesn't even warrant 1*
It doesn't even warrant 1*. I ordered a hedgehog house for £90 based on an article in the Guardian about how expertly designed and craftsman made it was. What arrived - eventually - was cheap, lightweight, mass produced tatt. Similar appearance to advertised but nothing like the design and quality. Definately not handcrafted in Devon and not fit for the job. Would not buy it if I saw it in a garden centre for £25, in fact I have just found it on Amazon for £14.99! Still wouldn't buy it.
Hopefully they'll come good on their 30 day unconditional refund but we'll see.
Was told to return it to Hong Kong (made in Devon?!) at my own expense - c£80 postage - for a 'full refund' of the £91 paid. Or keep it and get 25% 'refund' which I eventually got up to 50%
So much for an item reviewed by the Guardian (or may have been the Independant)
I was completely fooled by the hedgehog…
I was completely fooled by the hedgehog house advertisement which pretended to come from Devon UK. I have been waiting more than 4 weeks with no sign of my delivery, despite Royal Mail tracking (still not arrived there).
They have similar scams with bat boxes, ceramic bee drinkers and laundry baskets. The company is in China.
This company engages in misleading and…
This company engages in misleading and deceptive conduct in the marketing of the bee hotel. The product I received in no way resembled the description given on the website. Instead of an artisan produced bee hotel, it was a mass produced item.
When challenging them about this and requesting a refund I was told to ship it at my expense to Singapore. Hardly the Adelaide Hills. I eventually agreed to a 35% refund and will report them to Fair Trading.
DO NOT BUY anything from this company. Their marketing is a total scam.
Bev's Handmade Bee Blossoms (Set of 4)
Bev's Handmade Bee Blossoms (Set of 4). Scam. Had I seen in it in video form I would have seen it's a scam as the AI image changes her accent thought. I say this as a written ad online. I did receive these tiny flowers which water evaporates from in 20 minutes on a hot day. My purpose in adding to this is the same image and language issues are now being used for another product. It will be obvious once you see it.
Paid over $170.00 for 2 animal baskets…
Paid over $170.00 for 2 animal baskets which are not the same as the website. These items would cost not even $20 each. Stay clear of this business as I am clearly disappointed with these items. Pity I could not upload photos of them
I received the black cat witches hat…
I received the black cat witches hat and it was nothing compared to what was advertised on their website. The website stated that it was made from stained glass and the item I received is all plastic. Not worth the $39.99 i spent for this. I get better products in HomeGoods and tjmaxx for less. Another unsatisfied customer.
Wanda’s Ghost Lantern
Wanda’s Ghost Lantern - I would give this a zero if I could, cheap doesn’t even describe this. It is a joke, pure junk, looks NOTHING like the picture. You have to put it together yourself and the instructions aren’t even complete. Would never order from them again.
Ugh can’t believe I got scammed two…
Ugh can’t believe I got scammed two pieces of crap that cost me $70 each.
Very Disappointed – Misleading Product Description
I am extremely disappointed with Wanda's Ghost Lantern from Backroad Goods. The product description and photos led me to believe I was purchasing a finished, decorative lantern. Instead, I received a plastic pumpkin that was nothing like what I expected.
The advertising is misleading and does not accurately represent what you are purchasing. Had I known what I was actually getting, I would never have placed the order.
Buyer beware! Make sure you know exactly what you're purchasing before ordering from this company.
SCAM-If you have ordered, CONTACT BANK IMMEDIATELY
First off...DONT WAIT TO FILE A FRAUD CLAIM WITH YOUR BANK even if it's been less than a week. By then they probably sold your Information.
I was stupid. I wanted Regs Hedgehog House. After I paid, I was texted by their AI assistant, pretending to be Julie. It's job was to upsell.
Then I noticed that the postage had a tracking number but the post office hadn't received it. I waited 5 days and then emailed the company.
They gave me a bunch of excuses about not being able to cancel my order as the box was at their partner shipping centre...aka a drop shipping centre. Since the item was there, they couldn't cancel the order. I told them I wasn't expecting a drop shipping scheme as it was supposed to be from the UK. I asked them for the details of the processing centre so I could cancel through them
This is when I decided to talk to my bank.
It got a weird, I got an email saying I was being refunded, but no refund was actually started.
Right after that email, I got a reply saying I could refuse the box.
In the end, my bank got my money back.
Here's how to get your money back from your bank. DON'T WAIT FOR YOUR ITEM TO ARRIVE. IT PROBABLY WON'T. You only have 120 days. Even if it does, try to refuse at the door.
If paid using a debit card, your main route to get your money back is through a Chargeback claim.
Step-by-Step Action Plan
1. Call your bank immediately: Use the secure phone number on the back of your debit card or inside your official banking app. I was able to use the app.
2. Report the transaction as fraud/scam: Tell the adviser that you have been tricked into purchasing from a fraudulent website ("Backroad Goods") that uses fake identities and drop-ships counterfeit or non-existent items.
3. Request a Chargeback: Ask the agent to open a dispute under the reason "Goods not as described" or "Fraudulent merchant."
4. Freeze your card if necessary: Because you entered your card details into a scam website, ask your bank if they recommend cancelling your current card and issuing a replacement to prevent any future unauthorized charges.
What to Say to Your Bank
*"I am calling to dispute a debit card transaction and request a Chargeback. I bought an item from a website called 'Backroad Goods', which has since been exposed as a widespread scam site using fake artisan stories to sell cheap drop-shipped goods.
The item hasn't arrived yet / isn't what was advertised, and I would like to dispute this transaction on the grounds of merchant fraud and goods not as described. I also want to check if my card details are safe or if we need to cancel the card."*
Key Deadlines to Keep in Mind
• You generally have 120 days from the date of the transaction to initiate a Chargeback claim with your bank.
• Do not wait for the package to arrive. If a Royal Mail tracking number has been generated, remember to refuse the delivery at the door so it is officially marked as returned.
Do not use Backroad Goods- learn from my mistake!
I have been very foolish by ordering 2x "Reg's Hedgehog House" from Backroad Goods. I normally take care checking the company etc, but I was in a hurry and failed to do so this time, now literally paying the price (too much!!) having received today a poorly made, cheap looking product instead of what I believed was a genuine/hand crafted box based on watching a video and reading details of how they're made. I have only received 1 box so far which took 17 days to arrive. I don't know if I will receive the other one, but don't want it now anyway! Do not buy from this so called "company'. Please learn from my big mistake.
Such a cheap made item
Such a cheap made item, I'm sure didnt come from an elderly woman in my home state of Ohio, so complicated, and poorly made parts, I give up! Refund?
This company is a scam
This company is a scam. I never receive a confirmation email, and have never heard from them since placing my order.
Absolute rubbish
Absolute rubbish ! Supposedly handmade artisan laundry basket is just cheap chinese rubbish! Complete & utter ripoff ! Do not purchase from these liars !
Advertising alleges they are selling…
Advertising alleges they are selling goods made in Yorkshire in a barn called Garth End , no such place exists as I live just across the border from Wensleydale, AI generated rubbish.
SCAM - DO NOT BUY FROM BACKROAD GOODS!!
I am also adding my name to the list of people who have been scammed. I should have checked this company out but it is too late now. I'm wondering if I can get my money back but I doubt it. The hedgehog house is frankly pathetic and small and does not reflect what was advertised - DO NOT BUY IT!
Total scam
Total scam, these are not hand made goods by independent artisans, there is no promised personal note with the items, outdoor items such as rain drums come with poorly worded instructions that they cannot be left in the sun or rain, the photos are inaccurate and/or AI, the reviews on the website are fake, the back stories are fake.. these are just cheap mass produced copies.
Scam
Scam. Not hand made, nothing like the picture and description. Do not use!
what a scam completely different item…
what a scam completely different item and not as described would give a minus if it was possible
Scam
I tried to purchase something from this site. I have two credit cards with different banks. Both banks blocked the sale. Thank you NAB and Bendigo Banks Australia
