False information to generate sales
I recently booked a gas certificate inspection via Open Rent who used BA Gas as their contractor in the Coventry area. Unfortunately what I actually received was a sales call accompanied by dishonest and incorrect information, which appears to have been provided in order to make a sale (installation of a new boiler). I have since received a quotation for this from B A Gas
Dishonest and incorrect information provided; I was told that one reason why my boiler would need replacing was that the fan was not operating. When I pointed out that this particular boiler does not have a fan, the operative insisted that it did and pointed to a location on the front of the boiler which is actually part of the main burner, not a fan. There is no fan listed on the manufacturer's parts list. The boiler in question is an Ideal Classic RS240 (from the RS 230-260 series) described by the manufacturer in the installation manual as a 'balanced flue boiler' - balanced flue boilers do not have a fan. A competent and honest operative would know that.
Additionally the operative told me that a new boiler would need to be installed in a different location from the current location in an under stairs cupboard because boilers cannot be placed less than 600 millimeters from electrical installations and this space would not be achievable in the understairs cupboard. (Any such movement of the boiler to a new location would require a great deal of extra work and expense).
This information also is incorrect and in fact the relevant British Standard is BS6891:2005 - which specifies clearance distances for gas pipes of 25mm from cabling and 150mm from switchgear.
B A Gas appears to be in the business of supplying inaccurate and dishonest information to make sales.
