BFR Physio - Ben Austen

I started seeing Ben after having an operation which resulted in horrendous back pain, joint issues and restriction of movement. I had been suffering for nearly a year hoping the pain would go away. I couldn’t even go up the stairs without holding on. I’m now able to run up the stairs. Ben created an action plan that consisted of massage, strengthening exercises and electrical muscle stimulation. Ben has been encouraging, supportive and talks through any frustrations that I have. He explains things in a really good way, making me understand what is going on and why we are doing certain exercises. Ben continually adapts my exercises to suit how I’m progressing and constantly reminds me of how far I’ve come. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Ben. You can just tell how passionate he is about his job and the people he helps. He’s been absolutely amazing. Thank you.

Ben Austen, my hero at BFR Physio

Recovering from a femoral proximal replacement (I now have a prosthetic femur and hip) is a serious journey, but working with Ben Austen at BFR Physio turned what felt overwhelming at first into something genuinely empowering. From my very first session, Ben’s professionalism, deep expertise, and compassionate approach gave me confidence that I was in the best possible hands, that understood me, my sports and my goals.

Ben created a personalised rehab and strength training plan tailored specifically to my recovery needs, incorporating Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) techniques that were a total game-changer. Not only did I see noticeable improvements in strength and function, but I also felt genuinely supported every step of the way (he's very responsive on WhatsApp in-between sessions!).

What sets Ben apart is his ability to blend scientific research, clinical excellence with a truly human touch—he listens, explains things clearly, and makes each session both effective and totally motivating. Thanks to Ben's guidance, I’ve regained strength, mobility, and confidence far beyond what I expected. I'm back to biking, water-skiing, snow skiing and lifting well over double my bodyweight.

I've been seeing Ben every two weeks since 2020 (at my home gym) and will continue to see him for these sessions indefinitely. My strength training plan gets monitored and tweaked with every session.

If you’re looking for a physio who is as skilled as he is caring, Ben Austen (my hero) at BFR Physio is the one. I can’t recommend him highly enough.
