The bike had a very worn chain

The bike had a very worn chain, play in the handlebar bearings, a damaged shifter, and a chain guard taped up. There's a large scar on the rear wheel rim where an old AXA lock was cut out with an angle grinder. The frame and wheels are straight.

They keep saying I cancelled it. I didn't.
They don't know which bikes they are the seller for, and which have been sold.

You have indeed ordered a bike which was sold just a short while prior to your order - an inconvenience that we try very hard to avoid but, despite our best efforts, unfortunately may happen: our marketplace operates with thousands of sellers at any given time, and most of their products are second-hand and thus only available in one piece.

Immediately upon finding out, we have proactively contacted you with an apology and an offer of alternative options, or an immediate refund. You refused all constructive discussion with multiple people, only responding with threats of various kinds.

Following the last phone call from one of our senior team members - and no constructive response from your side -, we have cancelled your order and issued an immediate refund in order for you to have your money back as quickly as possible.

Very trustworthy,, kind , patient and clear communication, excellent information

These nice people of BikeFair helped me trough a long proces of orientation in buying , paying and even cancelling the buy of a secondhand bike - Never heard of them…I, a terrible nitwit
on bicycles, framesizes , Marktplaats, and online commerce , found myself chatting along with a certain Robin as if we were both humans and not seller and buyer - He really reacted on every single stupid or worried question of mine with patience and empathy- when after all the buy had to be cancelled it was Jan who communicated in exactly the same sweet and clear way. These guys and this company deserve your trust and as many buyers as possible ( I wish I had read all their informative and funny pages beforehand !) They are TOP !

I had a great experience purchasing my bike through BikeFair. The process was smooth, transparent, and well-organized.

Bought a new bike via Bikefair and sold…

Bought a new bike via Bikefair and sold my "old" bike. The platform/service focuses on bikes only, and therefore, it's more secure and trustworthy than other marketplaces.

The new bike got delivered and was pre-installed, ready to use! Sold the bike for a very good price, I assume because of the wide user reach :)

Excellent site, trustworthy

I bought a good quality bike off BikeFair and it was a flawless experience. They have put a lot of thought into making it easy to search for a very specific bike. I bought a bike in the Netherlands, from South Africa, in anticipation of an upcoming bike trekking tour, and at no stage did I feel uncomfortable with buying remotely. I also asked for more photographs which were given willingly.

I also had a few queries after the purchase and the person who answered was 100 percent on point and very friendly. It is rare nowadays to actually converse with someone who you feel is not a bot or doesn't care.

I can highly recommend this website.

Scam!

Bike never shipped and it took six weeks to get a refund. Don’t think I ever would have gotten my money back if it wasn't for PayPal.

First of all, we’re incredibly sorry about your experience. Our mission at BikeFair is to make buying a second-hand bike as smooth and trustworthy as possible, and in your case, we clearly fell short. That’s something we are sorry about and take seriously.

To offer some context: your order was placed for international delivery, which is a service we still offer on a limited, learning-by-doing basis. We’ve included disclaimers throughout the ordering process, although in your case, the delays went admittedly well beyond what’s reasonable.

From the moment your order came in, we also worked actively to meet your specific requests - even modifying the bike & entire order to better match your preferences (right rims design or ordering and packing an additional chainguard).

When shipping issues arose, we escalated repeatedly with the seller and DHL, reorganised pickups multiple times, and when the courier continued to fail their commitments, we arranged a fallback plan with the seller to deliver the bike to a sorting center directly. All of this was transparently communicated.

Once even the fallback plan appeared to have failed, we cancelled the order and immediately issued the refund, dissolving all incurred shipping costs. Because the payments were already in a PayPal dispute, the refund process was somewhat slower as well, as we had to work around the dispute process to push things through.

We’re relieved the refund has now been completed, but it certainly took longer than it should have. We’re taking this experience seriously and using it to improve, from how we handle international logistics, to seller accountability, to how we communicate when things go off track.

None of this excuses the delay, but we want you to know that this isn’t the norm, and that we care deeply when things go wrong.

Was a bit skeptical at first given the whole stolen bike market in Amsterdam but the process has been smooth and the bike I received was fast and in great condition! The BikeFair staff were all really friendly and highly responsive which is very much appreciated. Definitely will recommend!

Link to Marktplaats.nl and Facebook not working ...

My main reason for using this platform, is that they say they will forward the placed advertisement to 'marktplaats.nl' and Facebook.
After waiting for about a week, and my bike ad didn't show up on above mentioned platforms, I contacted bikefair.org asking about this. They replied that the link to those sites were out of order.
I then posted my bike ad to 'marktplaats.nl' myself, which resulted in a quick sale of my bike fortunately.

We're sincerely sorry that the sales didn't work as you hoped this time.

Indeed, reposting to Marktplaats is currently disabled because they have increased the advertising fees by ca 2000% month to month, which is not sustainable anymore on our scale, partly also because the real impact of the reposting was very limited anyway - for instance our paid Google and social media ads (which we also automatically run for all bikes, although we do not really communicate this), bring much more attention & sales.

You are completely right in that we need to fix the communication of this, though, which we haven't managed to do yet due to significantly limited capacity (we are still a very small team of enthusiasts, above everything else).

I've added it to our list, thank you for your kind feedback, and congrats on your sale - no matter where you made it, we're pumped to hear that your bike will continue riding for years to come 💚🚲

I bought a road bike 300 euros it broke…

I bought a road bike 300 euros it broke on the first ride the chain when i was changing gears + i spend 39 euros on shipping + 9 euros in a kind of insurance that did not help me in anything just go the decathlon and buy something new with the same money cause they will not help u if you buy something that breaks right away

First of all, we're sorry the first ride did not go as you expected.

As we also discussed on the phone soon after (and then several times in the next days as we organised), based on the photos of the damage we received, BikeFair and two other independent experts (bike shop owners) confirmed that the damage on the bike - a bent derailleur with its part even completely broken off - was caused by uncareful handling and excessive force during shifting, rather than a defect of the bike itself.

The seller, a new partner on our marketplace, has nevertheless eventually agreed to compensate half of the repair cost, and once we told them about your review & detailed situation, even agreed to cover the full cost of repair as they wished to start their presence on our platform on a positive note. Even though it is not our usual practice, this is what we agreed on together.

And that's also what happened: we organised the repair with another partner shop nearby you and the seller eventually fully paid for the repair, even though it was not their obligation.

While this remnant of the past of a review remains here, we hope that at least you are now happy with your bike and it will do you a great service in the years to come!

I had a good experience with Bikefair

I had a good experience with Bikefair. Craig was very helpful and responsive. I bought a bike from their website but the seller didn’t respond so Craig went through similar bikes in the website and sent me the options in an email. He even compared two options and helped me to decide. Shipping was very quick as well. I will absolute recommend bikefair if you are after a used bike. They are truely a five-star business.

Coincidentally, I was purchasing a new bike for my daughter at the same time I was purchasing a bike for myself on BikeFair.
