Bluegreen overall is a disaster
Bluegreen overall is a disaster. I thought I was signing up for a relaxing annual fishing trip, but the only thing that got caught was me. You are hit with ever-increasing maintenance fees that they never disclose upfront. When you sit down and add up the fees you realize you could easily pay for luxury vacations every year without any of the strings attached. Don’t fall for the pitch. Stick to booking your own trips and save your sanity!
Impossible Bookings, Ignored Cancellation
I am writing this review to express my deep frustration with our Bluegreen timeshare membership. What was sold to us as a benefit has become a significant financial liability that we can no longer justify. Despite paying our annual fees, we consistently face major hurdles with limited point availability and restrictive usage. It is nearly impossible to book the locations we want during the times we are actually available to travel. Combined with a recent downturn in our income, this expense has become an unbearable burden.
We have already reached out to management requesting a total closure of our membership and a refund of our investment, but we have yet to receive a single response to our initial complaint. We even sent a formal letter regarding late payments to notify them of our intent to cancel, yet the silence continues. We are fully aware that stopping payments could negatively impact our credit report, but we feel forced into this position because our concerns are being ignored.
We want to settle this matter amicably and simply want to speak with a supervisor who can actually assist us with the next steps for closure. We are done with the booking hurdles and the lack of communication. If you are looking into this company, be warned that getting assistance once you want out seems impossible.
STAY AWAY!!!!
Don't let them suck you in. They'll keep you stuck in a sales meeting for hours, promising "exclusive" access but it’s a joke when you realize non owners can book the same resorts. There is no point in "owning" anything when you're hit with skyrocketing maintenance fees for the same rooms anyone else can get. The worst part is that as soon as you tell them you want out of this trap they refuse to help and just try to sell you more points. Not only is it a financial burden, but a constant headache. Save your money and just book a hotel normally. Don't make the same mistake we did!
I recently purchased a package where it wasn't what they made it appear
I recently purchased a package where I was very specific about traveling to specific destinations. I was told there were many options for travel even to specific areas in the US.
When I was ready to plan my trip they only had 7 cities that were nowhere remotely in the areas I mentioned I travel.
After talking with two people to get this rectified they refused to refund my money and gave me the option to give this to someone or travel to one of the destinations.
Refund was outside the window. My loyalty to choice hotels is gone. They're a scam!
night mare
I bought into Bluegreen Vacations to get a short getaway, but it has turned into a complete financial nightmare. They sell these timeshare with incredibly high pressure and are very deceptive. During one of our upgrade meetings in Tennessee, there was actually a fire, and the sales reps still rushed us to sign the paperwork quickly while it was happening!
They promised us affordable maintenance fees but completely failed to mention how much they would skyrocket over the years. My fees started at $400 and are now nearly $4,000. Even when we try to use the timeshare, it is nearly impossible to book anything unless we do it well over a year in advance.
I would not recommend it.
Bluegreen does not keep promises!
We have been owners with Bluegreen for almost 20 years and have had a very frustrating experience. When we first signed up, we were assured that booking vacations would be easy and flexible. Instead, we’ve found it nearly impossible to actually use what we paid for. The availability is so limited that you have to plan YEARS in advance. In almost 20 years, we’ve only managed to use the timeshare once! I do not recommend buying into this. It's a scam!
High Pressure and Continued Costs
I would never recommend Bluegreen to anyone because it is just constant pressure and misleading information from every angle. They make it seem like an affordable way to vacation, but that is far from the truth. The maintenance fees go up and they also pressure you into owner meetings, but those are really just a trap to get you to buy more points and spend even more money! I haven't even been able to use this timeshare once since I signed up. Save your money and do not sign up!
All they(BlueGreen Vacations) care about is getting more money. We’ve tried every possible route to cancel our BlueGreen Timeshare to no avail
We’ve tried every possible route to resolve this ownership and leave on decent terms, but every conversation circles back to one thing. Paying Bluegreen more money. Jennifer came across no different than Carlito in our experience. Different person, same message. No real solutions, no willingness to help, just more pressure and more fees.
Our account was already paid in full, yet we were told we’d need to hand over another $15,000–$20,000 just to walk away. We even tried Pinnacle which is BlueGreens time share resale company recommendation and we paid 75$ to have our time share listed and after 6 months we called back and found out they never listed our property, but sure took our 75$. Calls were ignored, follow-ups never happened, and nothing meaningful was ever resolved.
The hardest part is remembering the promises made years ago during a time when we were already dealing with serious health issues and trusted what we were being told. Since then, maintenance fees have continued climbing and the stress and financial burden attached to this ownership has only gotten worse.
At this point, we feel completely unheard and unsupported. We are done pouring money into something that has caused nothing but frustration and disappointment.
My wife and I were lured in by the false promises…
My wife and I were lured in by the promise of a "free" Florida vacation if we just agreed to attend a simple 1-hour presentation. That 1-hour meeting turned into a 5-hour high-pressure sales pitch. We had up to four different reps wearing us down at once until we finally caved. They promised us the moon: easy bookings, Platinum member perks, and they explicitly told us we could rent out our unused points to cover the massive maintenance fees.
It was all lies. We could almost never get the bookings we wanted. When we followed their sales reps' exact advice and tried to rent our points to help cover the rising fees, Bluegreen locked us out of our account! A manager named Paul McLaughlin basically held our account hostage, claiming we violated a policy we were never told about, and demanded we sign a "declaration" admitting fault just to get our access back. We were punished for doing exactly what they told us to do.
Today, my wife and I are living in assisted living, and dealing with terminal health issues. The stress of this timeshare is awful. We have pleaded with Bluegreen to let us out of this timeshare due to our medical and financial hardships, yet this company shows no mercy. Do not sign anything with Bluegreen Vacations.
BLUEGREEN VACATIONS is a TIMESHARE NIGHTMARE - Avoid!!
Our experience as Bluegreen owners has consistently been defined by lies, financial strain, high-pressure sales, and disappointing resort quality. Seeking cancellation only led to further frustration, confirming our decision to exit. They are extremely difficult to work with in processing our cancellation. One of the primary reasons for cancelling our ownership is being upset with the maintenance fees always rising year after year and spiraling out of control. The salespeople conveniently withheld this information from us. My wife is retired, and I am looking to retire, and with the costs of the maintenance fees continuing to spiral out of control, we are finding that this ownership no longer fits our budget. I also refuse to pass this burden onto my children and ruin their future. Another reason is harassment every time we used the timeshare really blew; we were always pressured to attend “owner review meeting” where we’re always pressured to buy more/upgrade. We always felt beat up. One vacation at Myrtle Beach, the meeting was said to be 1 hour long, which turned out to be over 3 hours long. It was filled with nothing but lies, trying to get my wife and me to purchase more points and perks that we found out from an honest loan officer that we already owned. Every attempt to use the timeshare involves pressure sales, making us feel "beat up" and ruining the vacation experience. Another reason for needing to cancel is the poor quality of the facilities we were able to stay at, when we’re lucky enough to be able to make a reservation, since finding any availability is consistently beyond challenging. This past summer, my wife took my two granddaughters to a Bluegreen Resort, Shenandoah Crossings in Virginia, and the swimming pools were filthy. It was embarrassing to take them there. Just recently in August, we went to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and the resort there was dirty, including the rooms as well. We also had an issue getting a parking pass for my daughter's family since they refused to fill out a credit application and attend an Owner Update/Review. They even tried to charge us a secret $500 fee just to check into the resort, which was not disclosed in our contract, and we were forced to pay it in cash. We have had nothing but issues trying to use promised benefits like upgrades or early check-ins: they are never available, so what are we paying for? We have had nothing but issues using our Timeshare throughout the years. It is a terrible investment and a massive financial and emotional headache. I contacted Bluegreen to inquire about cancellation and was passed around between Bluegreen and Pinnacle (their collection agency, since I have stopped all payments to them) for a total of 1.5 hours before a Bluegreen representative abruptly hung up on me. This lack of customer service is appalling. Another good reason to get rid of any affiliation with them. So, I am writing this review to warn others to STAY FAR, FAR AWAY FROM BLUEGREEN VACATIONS! You don’t want to get in the same predicament as we currently are!
FYI – No response after trying to cancel
Just sharing based on my experience with Bluegreen after trying to reach out to cancel and not getting any response.
The purchase process involved long, high-pressure sales presentations where I was told ownership would allow travel “anytime, anywhere” with flexibility and ease. After becoming an owner, the reality did not match what was presented. Availability was limited, trips required significant advance planning, and the points system did not reflect the kind of travel that was described.
I also experienced issues with billing, including automatic payments being taken earlier than expected, which led to overdraft fees. Attempts to address these concerns were not meaningfully resolved.
After filing a formal complaint, Bluegreen responded with a denial based on contract language. I sent a detailed follow-up and did not receive any further communication. I also tried to reach out directly to cancel and received no response.
This is simply an FYI for others considering ownership based on my experience, communication after purchase and during cancellation attempts has been difficult.
No Clear Exit, Just Expensive Dead Ends
I tried multiple times to resolve this ownership in good faith, but nothing about the process has felt straightforward or reasonable. From the start, what ws presented didn't match how things actually turned out. The benefits were emphasized, but the long-term costs weren't made clear, and now the maintenance fees have climbed into the $7,000-$8.000 range annually, which is not sustainable.
A call with a representative named Omari was supposed to provide answers, but instead it raised more concerns. The options given were to attempt to sell or transfer the ownership independently, contine paying increasing maintenance fees, or pay roughly $12,000 just to terminate and even that didn't fully resolve the ongoing financial obligations. Another point that stood out was being told that stopping payments could eventually lead to termination, but only when the company decides, with no timeline or certainty.
None of these options felt like real solutions. Each one comes with significant financial risk or uncertainty, leaving no practical way to exit without taking a major loss. That kind of structure makes it feel less like customer support and more like being stuck with no clear way forward.
Friendly call, no real solution
After months of trying to get a response, we finally spoke with Christie. She was polite, understanding, and actually listened to our concerns, which honestly felt like progress after being ignored for so long. She explained that the three properties listed on our statements had supposedly been merged into one premium ownership. We also explained how the sales presentations pushed upgrades and purchases without making the long-term costs clear, especially the maintenance fees and future payments that became impossible to manage. Even though she understood our situation, the only options offered were to try selling through a reseller, which she admitted rarely works and usually means taking a loss, or stop paying entirely and let the account charge off, knowing it would destroy our credit. The only other option was to pay off nearly $20,000 in full. So after all this time, we are still stuck paying hundreds every month for something we cannot realistically use, while thousands of points sit unused.
Good luck trying to get rid of…
Good luck trying to get rid of Bluegreen Vacations!!!! Total lack of care for people. They are just greedy and after your money. I’ve tried repeatedly to talk to their team about getting out of this, but it’s just more lies and no help. When you tell them their 'support' is failing, they just tell you to contact them again. It’s a scammy cycle and a complete waste of time. Save yourself the headache and stay away!!!!
Beware! The costs never stop climbing!
Don't get caught up in the promise of easy vacations. The resorts are decent, but the financial side is a nightmare. The sales pitch is really good at hiding the reality…maintenance fees that jump up by THOUSANDS every year. It quickly goes from fun vacations to an unsustainable expense you can't get out of. It's not worth your time or your money. Do yourself a favor and don't get involved with this company.
A NIGHTMARE IF YOU WANT TO LEAVE
I have NEVER dealt with a company so cold and indifferent. It is nearly impossible to cancel a membership here. I am a widow in my 80s, and they DO NOT CARE. I have reached out multiple times for help, only to be met with a total lack of human decency. If you are looking for a business that operates with honesty LOOK ELSEWHERE!! They DO NOT care about their owners! They only care about your checkbook! Save yourself the stress and your money. STAY AWAY!!!
Bluegreen Vacations timeshare company is full of lies!
My primary reasons for seeking to end the timeshare contracts with Bluegreen came from the ongoing and unexpectedly high maintenance fees, which place a significant financial burden on me, especially with 3 children in college. These high fees are contrary to initial promises by Bluegreen’s sales team that these fees would decrease over time. What makes it much worse is the chronic difficulty I've experienced in booking vacations, where the promised benefits have simply not materialized. Furthermore, I have found that booking certain properties is extremely difficult if they
are not owned directly by Bluegreen, even though their sales team told us we could book anywhere with no problem. For instance, despite living in Georgia, I have never been able to book a timeshare in Savannah, which I was told is because that specific location is not Bluegreen-owned, making rooms hard to secure. Finally, I was misled regarding the Bluegreen and Hilton merger in 2023. I was initially told this merger would grant me access to all Hilton hotels. However, subsequent calls to Bluegreen clarified that I cannot use points for Hilton stays, only receive a discounted price, which directly contradicts the terms I was given at the time of purchase. I have previously lodged complaints with the timeshare company by phone, but these concerns were never addressed. Instead, I was merely directed to a third-party website, Pinnacle. They told me to sell the timeshare utilizing that company, which is owned by Bluegreen, and I would have more fees to pay them. Another option is to sell it myself. Reselling is not a viable option as nobody is interested in buying. It’s a liability, not an investment as they claimed to be. These unfulfilled promises and the high financial cost have led to significant frustration and disappointment with the entire timeshare experience. I need to end this ownership promptly! I am so desperate to get out that I offered $5500 to Bluegreen to close all my contracts (3 total). I am returning the properties to them, yet I am willing
to pay them for it. They refused! They insisted that I had to pay off my mortgage and the maintenance fees. I truly despise Bluegreen, but I’m still paying my monthly mortgage as of currently because I do not want my credit to be impacted. I really feel I should not be responsible for any payment at all when they lied to me to get me tied into the contracts. I hope Bluegreen sees this review and considers fulfilling my request.
Useless
We attended a Bluegreen presentation at The Fountains in October 2017, only for a free stay and gift card, but felt pressured into purchasing. This is a massive financial burden, especially with annual maintenance fees spiking to $5,000. The situation is unsustainable due to medical issues reducing travel. We've only used the timeshare once. We were also lied to during a consolidation, which failed to combine our previous timeshares under Vacation Village. When we sought help, a representative named Omari was dismissive and refused assistance, telling us to contact customer service about payments. They are not helpful in any way, whether it be vacationing or cancelling.
Loyal customers are treated like ATMs
Don’t make the mistake of signing up with Bluegreen. After years of being a loyal customer, I reached out to discuss exiting my membership. Their "solution" was to demand thousands of dollars just to let me leave. It is clear they just view their members as ATMs! When I tried to settle the matter fairly, they sent me a final notice stating they would no longer communicate with me. It is disgraceful that a company treats its members this way. Once they realize they can't squeeze any more money out of you, they simply toss you aside. My advice is to stay as far away as possible!
Bluegreen Vacations a.k.a Hilton = Nightmare!
My experience with Bluegreen has been overwhelmingly negative. The fi nancial details were not accurately disclosed, and the actual fi nancing payments were higher than communicated. During my recent upgrade, a sales representative aggressively pressured me to consolidate previous deeds and misrepresented the fi nancial obligations. The mortgage started at over $700/month & it’s been going up. Now, the maintenance fees have gone up to over $4000 annually. I was not clearly informed that the maintenance fees begin immediately upon purchase/upgrade, adding to the shock and burden. As a widow, these high payments are now a signifi cant fi nancial challenge, especially after giving fi nancial assistance to my daughter who had a diffi cult pregnancy. This was a much more important & worthy expense compared to spending on the timeshare ownership that I can barely use.
Furthermore, attempting to use the offered "perks" is incredibly diffi cult. It feels like a full-time job to claim them, and when I tried, I faced long hold times (over an hour once) only to be told it wasn't the right time or that more steps were required. Seems like nobody at Bluegreen can help. While one property (Big Cedar) was good, others I've visited were not in good shape. They were rundown and in such poor shape that they were far from a “resort” as the sales representative claimed. The main push is always to get you to the "next level" by buying more points you don't need, promising better availability that is almost impossible to access.
The demeaning and disrespectful sales practices were a turning point. During my last owner update, an aggressive and hostile sales representative insulted me and called me a "fool" for not purchasing more. I was made to feel inadequate for not buying more from Hilton (Bluegreen merged with Hilton). His rough demeanor became completely unpleasant when I wasn't engaged, and his hostility when I walked away solidifi ed my decision to exit. Now that I have informed them of my intention,
they are prolonging the process and making it extremely diffi cult to exit.
So save yourselves, and don’t engage with any attempts by Bluegreen Vacations to lure you into their trap of timeshare nightmare!
