This is a great company. I have been a member of Book of the Month for years now. Whenever I have a question about my account or should an issue arise, they are quick to respond.

One of my favorite book box subscriptions
I really like having a book of the month subscription. There is a great selection of books to choose from and I love the yearly book challenges. You also get a free book in your birthday month a a free book of the year pick. The customer service is always great is you need it for anything.

First of the month…yay!
I look so forward to when the new books are revealed each month! BOM has widened my tastes in books with books I probably wouldn’t have looked right by in a bookstore.

BotM keeps my reading fresh
BotM keeps my reading fresh! I love the monthly alert I get to check out the latest picks and make my selections. It puts authors on my radar that I otherwise may have never known about! I trust the recommendations and the curated lists and love the extra features like author interviews. One of my all-time faves was the interview with Abby Jimenez after I read Yours Truly... it solidified my love for her as an author and a loyal reader moving forward. So grateful for the amazing team at BotM!

Book subscription for people who love books
I’ve had several different book boxes at different times and this one consistently has good books from a variety of genres. I choose the book that I want from the list and if I skip a month, then that credit carries over so I can choose more than one at a later month. The bookmarks are simple but with punny book humor. Otherwise it’s just books that you choose from a simplified list of highly rated books. As cute as bookish doodads can be, most of what comes in the curated book boxes I’ve gotten just turns into clutter for a price that isn’t really sustainable. I’ve had this book subscription the longest and it’s likely the only one I’ll continue. The price is good for someone like me who thrives on an endless TBR.

Such a fun membership!
I enjoy seeing different books that I might not have chosen for myself. It stretches my comfort zone and encourages me to try different books! I love the ease at ordering and getting books directly to my door on my own chosen timeframe.

Book of the Month is not trust worthy…
Book of the Month is not trust worthy and super misleading. Like an example is today I got a offer to rejoin as a friend and keep my friend status so I did that. Got resigned up, paid my money and then the Relationship status shows hey ship 3 more boxes and become a friend which isn't what the offer email said..
They do things like this all the time and it's fishy, misleading, and illegal.. Next I'll be submitting a complaint to the Better Business Bureau
Date of the experience has been ongoing over the last year with this company and I'm done.
Don't sign up because they don't honor their promises

Good in theory...but NOT practice....
I received a subscription to the BOM club from my husband as a Christmas gift. I'm always reading, and he thought this would be great for me. In theory it would be. The problem is they only give you FIVE books to choose one! There are several other books you might enjoy, but you can't get them UNLESS you choose one of the five! I've had this subscription since Christmas, so it's been six months. Just looked at their June selection and there's nothing I'm interested in. In the last six months, I think I've managed to get three books. Definitely will not renew, or give as a gift or refer others to it. It's a shame.

Questionable Advertising
As others have mentioned, I too found the $5 fee to be an enticing offer until I noticed just before going ahead with purchasing my first book that I would be charged full price the next month without option for cancellation. I know, however, that many others could easily overlook this (and have overlooked this) as the print is so small and fine. I'm not particularly enthusiastic about the misleading advertisement, but I do think at the very least that people should be better warned about the absence of cancellation because it makes the company look somewhat suspicious (I’d recommend providing a popup before purchase, big bold letters at the bottom, etc).
Unethical Advertising
I'm sure they're a great company. But it's pretty scummy to sell a book for $5 but oh by the way in the fine print you are also committing to another $16.99 charge next month. Where else in the world can someone sell you something for 4x the advertised price? Sorry, but that's just manipulative
Regarding your reply - perhaps you could advertise it more clearly by moving it out of the small print, which occurs after creating an account, entering your shopping details, and entering your payment method? That might help customers see the actual price of their purchase. The price seems like an important thing to advertise, no?

I have loved BOTM for 2+ years
I have loved BOTM for 2+ years. I think $17ish for a hardcover book every month is more than appropriate. The monthly selections are diverse from a lot of different genres with good options to choose from. I love to option to skip if nothing speaks to me but it has also expanded my reading and I find myself enjoying books I never would have read otherwise. I have contacted customer service and they were very helpful when I had questions. Great company!

They scam you and make it impossible to cancel
This entire thing is a complete scam. They get you by offering a discounted book, but once you click it they force you into a membership you didn't agree to be a part of. When trying to cancel the membership, the cancel button only brings up a message reading :
"As part of your $5 enrollment offer, you agreed to be renewed at least one time. You are currently scheduled to be renewed on January 26th, 2024 for $16.99 and 1 credit will be added to your account. You can use that credit to shop for one of our January selections. If you still want to cancel after trying another month of BOTM (though we hope you decide to stick around a while), you can do so by returning to this page."
but it does not allow you to actually go forward with cancelling. When you contact any of the actual customer service representatives, they send a cancel link that just takes you to the exact same message.
So, 1) they force you to sign up for a membership you don't want
and
2) they don't allow you to cancel the membership you never wanted in the first place.
Horribly dishonest and corrupt. Do not give them your time of day.

BOTM customer service/Levi, from North Carolina!
I want to reach out and let everyone know about the experience I had with BOTM. I thought I had canceled due to being subscribed to many things. I love BOTM but felt I could go back when I could afford it. BOTM took money out of my account because I just PAUSED my subscription and it was time for them to reopen my account. I called BOTM and got ahold of a young man named Levi from North Carolina. He said he worked from home. He was soooo mannerly, considerate, and was just a joy talking to. He helped me right away, explaining step by step about what was going to happen next. I wish all customer service employees were like Levi. Levi rocked his job!
LOVE BOOK OF THE MONTH
LOVE BOOK OF THE MONTH. Cheap new books and early releases with excellent customer service.
Terrible customer service
Terrible customer service
Canceling my account
I had to email twice about a lost package.
It took them three days to get back to me. They tried to blame it on a book shortage.
Terrible, terrible, terrible. Everyone knows that USPS is bad right now. McDonalds has better customer service. Do not recommend
