History

Established in 2012 in San Francisco.

Boxbee won the biggest business competition in tech, LAUNCH, whose previous winners include Dropbox and Mint.com. We were recently chosen as one of 2013's best start ups by Business Insider. Boxbee Storage is also a Google Ventures company.

Today we are located in both San Francisco and New York and store thousands of cherished items for people and businesses, allowing people to move or store their stuff in our boxes with efficiency and ease.

Business Owner

Kristoph Matthews founded Boxbee in 2012 to fill a huge need for smarter and alternative storage for urbanites.

Growing up, Kristoph's family relocated 22 times to places like Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the US. Witnessing disappointing experiences with storage throughout his life -- Kristoph was compelled to find a more efficient, simple and secure way to store, retrieve, and move personal items.

Prior to Boxbee, Kristoph has founded and worked at many early-stage startups, in addition to larger companies in tech.

Don't trust them with your stuff

They really suck. Don't trust them with your stuff.

My boxes arrived on time. I packed them. They picked them up. That's about all that went right.

Their email system messed up and sent me packing instructions 2 weeks after my items were already picked up. I ended up with a bunch of serial numbers for my boxes but no pictures, so I couldn't figure out which was which.

Customer service was really slow. After several weeks of back and forth, they agreed to send my boxes back to me so I could re-inventory them.

When the boxes arrived, one was missing. I checked my account and there was 1 fewer box than I had sent them.

I'm trying to get the situation resolved. No idea if they'll be able to track down the missing box. Fortunately it was something replaceable, but many of my items weren't - I had stuff from my wedding, plates from my grandmother, etc. What if they had lost those?

They offer wardrobe boxes, but don't ship or store them correctly. When I opened the wardrobe box, half of the clothes were in a pile on the floor. They had definitely been turned sideways (the boxes are labeled with an "up" arrow).

Last-minute cancellation

They called me right at my delivery time and told me they wouldn't be able to make it because they didn't have enough drivers. Instead of trying to solve the problem, they suggested that we reschedule for next week. Moving is a time-sensitive event and something that can't be easily rescheduled. Customer support did not try to help solve the issue at all. Do yourself a favor and go with another company.

Awesome

Super convenient storage for students like me who are moving out of the dorms. Boxbee picks and deliveries right to my dorm room. I love the option of referral codes because it gave me a chance to save a little on the storage fees. 10/10 would recommend to everyone who wants to skip the heavy lifting, paying for a space rather by how much you have, and skip the hassle of transporting your stuff to a far away storage facility.

Excellent

Convenient, helpful, always on time. Can't recommend them more in San Francisco or New York!

Made a difficult move exceptionaly easy - I'd definitely recommend

Getting signed up and ordering boxes was super easy. They were able to easily accommodate the Saturday pickup I needed due to work and the support team was responsive. I was moving but not taking furniture with me and Boxbee was a great choice to deal with the gap between the old and new apartments.

Boxbee magic?

What better magic than Boxbee's making objects disappear and re-appear (no effort required!)

hmm. Maybe the service could be improved. How about yellow Boxbee limousines for carting off spouses to graze when they're in the way?

Best idea ever

Curtis was my pickup and drop off person. He was kind, professional, and in time. I heard of Box Bee through a friend and am now a total evangelist for others to use the service too!

Pretty awesome

Boxbee messed up a bit and made up for it. They showed up at the wrong address and even delivered to the wrong address at one point.

Biggest areas of improvement involve Boxbee's suitability for moving, apparently this product isn't made for moving. It didn't support multiple addresses very well. Also, it was really difficult to communicate quickly for last minute changes. We had a delivery scheduled for 6:30, but I couldn't be there until 7pm. I sent an email at 5:45 with instructions for the driver, but the email didn't end up getting to the driver and the driver ended up waiting for 30 minutes to get into the house to dropoff the boxes.

- When an email is sent in, somebody should immediately receive it in case its urgent or related to something immediate. The driver should have received my instructions, but had to wait which was a waste of time.
- Support multiple addresses, because people often use storage for moving

Thanks for the feedback Thomas! I'm so sorry about the frustrations you had. We've actually updated our service to support multiple addresses and moving, very recently, so that won't be problem any more. As for the communications, you make some great points. We now have dedicated dispatchers who are in constant communication with the drivers, as we know how frustrating your situation can be. Thanks again, feedback like this is really helpful!

Hi M.B.,

They do what they're supposed to.

The online scheduling works without hiccups (e.g. "Oops, that time was already booked!" emails, like some other companies do sometimes). Every time they visited I was absent, but they texted me in advance, I gave them the door code and told them what to do, and they did it (e.g. pick up the eight full boxes and drop off four more empty boxes). The boxes themselves are very sturdy plastic and custom-made for Boxbee's brand (not just decals).

To be fair, I haven't actually retrieved my stuff yet. But every experience I've had so far has signaled a highly professional operation.

Boxbee takes the pain out of storage.

I couldn't believe that I discovered a solution to storing a box without the usual hassles. I signed up, received simple instructions for the next steps, and within 24 hours met a nice delivery guy who happily carried my box away to a safe place. For very little money per month and a low-cost, retreival fee...I am without the headache of storing somthing I cannot handle right now. Boxbee made my life and space feel free.

BoxBee is AMAZING and like Uber for storage!

BoxBee is an amazing service for "life organizing," and it's also a game changer for urban apartments, especially in NYC! It's the easiest and best storage solution I've ever used, I LOVE it, and have already ordered boxes from them 3 times in just a few months. The people at BoxBee are so friendly and the quality of service is extraordinary-- I'm a very last minute person and through their easy online interface they always let me schedule my deliveries within a matter of hours and even same day if I need it. They have a concierge for deliveries as well, so your stuff is always accessible whenever you need it. Literally someone comes all the way to your doorstep to drop off your boxes, or to pick them up (if you've ever used a storage unit in a city like NYC, you know that it's a NIGHTMARE getting there and even harder getting your stuff back unless you want to take all of it at the same time). I dream of having a perfect zen apartment, but always seem to have too much stuff so it looks cluttered. This has been the perfect solution because I can rotate off season clothing and items. They price it per box, so you literally only pay for what you actually store. I'm totally obsessed with BoxBee and, for a change, am actually excited to start my "Spring Cleaning."

So far so good

They dropped off the boxes on time, everything was very easy to upload to the website, they picked up they picked up the boxes on time. My only suggestion would be: extra tie closures for the boxes would be a nice idea. If you needed to open a box you already closed it wasn't really possible.
