This company is a SCAM

This company is a SCAM. They are not interested in your mental health. I was charged a total of $194 in fraudulent late cancellation fees. They don't evengive you the option to cancel your appointment on their website. You're only able to reschedule your appointment. The only time you get the opportunity to cancel an appointment is when they send a reminder email. At that point, you're charged a $97 late fee. Funny how those reminder emails come in within the 24 hour cancellation period. The second time they charged this fee was AFTER I had canceled my entire account. Somehow, canceling your account doesn't automatically cancel any appointments you may have. Their contact number is nearly impossible to find on their website. And you're unable to manually delete your payment information from your account. You have to contact them to get it removed. Their customer service is laughable. I've had to initiate payment disputes with my bank and report them to the BBB.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear about your experience and the frustration this situation caused.

Brightside’s cancellation policy and applicable fees are outlined in our member materials and appointment communications. Members are able to cancel appointments through the appointment reminder notifications, in our portal or by contacting our support team for assistance. Additionally, closing an account does not automatically cancel previously scheduled appointments, so those must be canceled separately.

Because we cannot review account-specific details in a public forum, we encourage you to connect with our support team so we can review your concerns and provide further assistance.

Helpful but hidden fees

I thought the app was easy to use, and the questionnaires were not too extensive. However, although they accepted my insurance, it did not mention that they were out of network, so I was hit with a ton of expenses that I did not expect. I know that was a failure on my part because I did not check before I proceeded, but it was also not mentioned to me by the company about checking for out of pocket expenses with out of network insurance. It was convenient to be able to be seen virtually, but it was not worth the cost at the end of the day. I ultimately it was only able to see the psychiatrist once and my therapist twice before my bills became unmanageable. I did not find the therapy sessions valuable either, as a therapist myself the therapist provided very entry level, and almost scripted conversation.

***DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME***

I had a Telehealth appointment after spending a good 45 minutes filling out all the online forms and answering many questions. The earliest appointment they had was 3 hours later, so I waited, and not even 1 minute into the call, they told me they could not prescribe medicine because it is against their policy. I specifically made the appointment for that reason. Then they told me I did not read the fine print. ARE YOU SERIOUS?? I asked for help and got nothing. Highly disappointed, and this was number one in a Google search? COMPLETELY USELESS COMPANY!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!

Brightside makes it easy to get help

Brightside has developed a comprehensive mental health service for anxiety and depression.
I filled out the intake questionnaire which is extensive and based on my answers they matched me with a therapist and setup a half hour appointment to review the intake and get more information. I felt very comfortable with the therapist so we agreed to start therapy.
The scheduling process is in the app. The app gives a schedule. You pick the date and time.
You login to the app and join the meeting.
We met 4 times each a week apart and I was able to resolve the issues that I was struggling with. I also gain insight into my feelings and emotions.

Discharged because I couldnt....

I really enjoyed my therapist. The last month or so things seemed off, not the scheduled we had for months prior and late a time or two. The last session I had I was blindsided with them wanting to discharge me due to the fact that I was and I am unable to do IOP or PHP, due to family situation. I understand the suggestion of them but I felt I was/am being forced to do these or I lose care, which I needed. It really broke my heart because I thought I would have a little more empathy for my situation but instead I was forced out. I was told I could return after completion but I am unable to go do IOP or PHP. So i sadly have had to lool for someone else. I am thankful I have a PCP who referred me. Brightside gave resources but as stated I am unable to do them. My biggest thing is that a suggestion was made, I explained my situation and still felt forced out and it sucks because the progress I did make, feels like I have to completely start from ground zero. What they did and how they went about it in my opinion was not fair and unprofessional, by not talking to me prior to making the decision. My therapist was a rating of 4, but all together the company a 2 if not a 1 because of how this was handled.

I picked a great therapist for myself

I picked a great therapist for myself. They send reminders about your upcoming appointment. They alert you if your therapist is running late. They give you thought provoking videos and questionnaires. They have help when you need it outside of your appointment.

Money hungry pill pushers

I was directed here by my insurer. The website seemed simple enough. Before completing my profile, I called to ask if providers are able to complete work-related documents. The rep was helpful and told me this was permitted at provider discretion. I went forward and booked psych and therapy appts for the next day. 7 am comes and i meet why the psych who was essentially a pill-pusher. He wanted to get quickly to what medicine he can give me and send me on my way. There was no real eval or discussion of my history. I told him getting a prescription wasn’t really my top priority and the provider said there’s nothing he can do if i don’t want meds. I restated that i am not against meds if thats what is necessary, but it wasn’t my main focus or the reason i scheduled the appt. I asked him what the process looked like for medical paperwork and he stated he’s not allowed to do that. I told him that customer service gave me different info and he stated they must be misinformed because it’s not something we can do. He agrees to cancel the appt so i can get a refund and recommends I find a local provider. I call 988 because I'm beyond overwhelmed and struggling to continue bouncing through providers. I get on the platform and attempt to cancel the therapy i had scheduled since this won’t work for me. I was told i must pay a $120 fee to cancel or if i didn’t show. I call customer service again because the crisis response team is on the way and i won’t be available for the appt but also shouldn’t have to pay $120 for a cancellation when services were not properly represented to me. The rep who answered was rude, kept reading me the policy, and told me that i need to have the provider call them to learn the policy. She told me i must cancel it myself and be charged, but she would ask her manager to consider a refund. She continued to state policy despite me pointing out that I’d scheduled the appointment only 16 hours before so it’s impossible to give 24 hours notice. I also informed her that the crisis response team was on the way and i can’t make the appointment. She didn’t care about any of this so i locked my card, cancelled the appointment, and went to a facility that could help me. Upon returning home Matthew was very understanding and helpful. He removed the fee and closed my account.

10 stars! ⭐️

Thank you so much for providing this service! I absolutely love being able to check in with my provider anytime I need to right from my phone. It was so easy to get my prescription and it is so helpful in this phase of my life with young children! I love it!

They show pictures of your care being…

They show pictures of your care being MD’s - psychiatrist. That’s the provider I thought I was getting but they made my appointment with a social worker when I found out I immediately canceled the appointment and was charged 165. And 120.00. I have emailed many times and no response!

Here is aConvenient Platform, Strong Therapy Support, Room for More Engagement polished

Here is a polished, balanced, and professional version of your review:

The technology platform is convenient and helpful, especially having the option for virtual appointments. However, at times it made me feel somewhat disconnected from the human element of care. While virtual meetings are a great option, it’s important that providers remain fully engaged, as if the session were taking place in person. I experienced this disconnect more during my appointments with the psychiatrist than with my therapist.
That said, I am very satisfied with my therapist and the guidance and suggestions she has provided so far.

The worst company for mental health

I want to leave a review that this company has been the biggest waste of my time. Both the psychiatrist and therapist left me AFTER A YEAR when I needed them the most. I just want everyone to know that since I’m no longer part of this company I’ve actually been doing so much better in life and off of every single medication and never felt better. Never use Brightside. Ever They will rob you of your peace and make you feel worse about your self !
