Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 136 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people reported receiving fines even after paying or for minor infractions, often finding the charges excessive and unfair. Customers frequently encountered issues with unclear signage, uncommunicated rule changes, and non-functional payment machines, leading to unexpected penalties. The appeal process was also a source of frustration, often described as difficult, rejected, and designed to confuse or delay. Some people were dissatisfied with the new policy of charging Blue Badge holders, often introduced without clear notification. Additionally, customers reported payment machines not allowing full payment, especially for overnight stays. Many felt the company's practices were overly focused on generating revenue through fines.

Fined £60 despite paying — their app, their problem

My husband and I parked at a Britannia car park and attempted to pay via their app immediately. There was no mobile signal in the car park, so after several failed attempts we went upstairs, tried again, and eventually got the payment through. Around 20 minutes later my husband noticed the transaction hadn't completed, so he paid again straight away. We then received a £60 penalty notice for "not paying."
We appealed, providing the payment receipt and a clear explanation of the signal issues. Britannia rejected the appeal, stating we hadn't paid for our "full stay" — the 32-minute gap caused entirely by their own payment system not working in their own car park.
If you operate an app payment system, it is your responsibility to ensure there is adequate signal for customers to use it. Penalising honest customers for a failing in your own infrastructure is unacceptable.
I have always paid for my parking and have never had a parking issue before. I have now paid the £60 to avoid it escalating to £100 — which feels like the business model. Check the reviews here and on Parkopedia: my experience is far from unique.
I will never use a Britannia Parking car park again and would strongly advise others to do the same.

Britannua Parking fines authorised cars…

Britannua Parking fines authorised cars as well.We got fined for being in our own parking bay which our car has been for many years and its still there..we informed our management company and they said there is a glitch in the Britannia car parking system and they apologised profusely and asked us to appeal to park on our own car park space which we own which I find ridiculous

Vile

Visited a client who uses this POS company in their car park. I thought I had paid, so was surprised to receive a notice. Less surprised to see I received the notice nearly a month after it was issued and well past their 14 day discount period.

It's amazing that we allow these predatory companies to exist, but it's usually the council (government) using them. We are treated as a source of income, it's time to start a rebellion.

My wife was using her Blue card in Waitrose Aylesbury car park, yes we were late back for the 3 hours on her blue badge.
I appealed via there web site; no response.
They say they want a letter.
There is no phone number that gets you through to a person.

They are asking us for £100.00
The whole area of Parking and admin is a delegation of duty by councils and shop proprietors.
Oh! we do not control parking we employ vultures and emotional and psyche players to do that for us thats beneath us. Our accountants assure us we'll make money by screwing the public.
Fear and the unknown are tools used by aggressors and dictators throughout the centuries. It would appear that the slim has used out of the primeval swamp and corporates gladly shed their responsibility.
Ah! as Shakespeare said "there's the rub"!

Maybe we need social media campaign to lift our spirits and show Waitrose and Aylesbury council that this is a "Fine How's your do!"

Meanwhile Britannia Parking: whose use of this name is an affront to all Brits....there's nothing British in there philosophy; they rely and profit from fear!!!

There must be a better way...they are not fair & decent or am I wrong?

Stopped at a pub for a £3.95 regular…

Stopped at a pub for a £3.95 regular sized Coca-Cola, I only went in there because my mother's train was delayed.
15 minutes I was in there.
2 weeks later. My car has been photographed, there was a shot of me coming, then leaving 15 minutes later.
The pub complained "it's nothing to do with us"
Therefore, it's something to do with you!
And no, I didn't read any sign saying about entering your car license number!
Neither did the staff tell me I had to.
I've got ADHD, I don't got time for your signs. I assume they're for people MISUSING the car park!
But, I'd been sat in the garden, it was actually my first time back into a pub in 15 years!
Literally 15 years I've been clean and sober.
But I went in anyway to kill 15 minutes.
2 weeks later, a parking fine from these... People? Demanding £100 or they're taking me to court!
Interesting. As I've got ADHD, I ain't got time to read no parking ticket!
So I tried calling them. Left a voicemail saying, I don't know where this is, but I'm not paying you!
I'm not lying.
So I provide the pub with an online purchase receipt from THEIR PUB at exactly the time I arrived.
Then the pub - who have NOTHING TO DO WITH IT, say that the parking ticket will be gone by Monday.
You're damn right it will be.
So, the pub doesn't want bad reviews?
Tough luck. I don't expect a parking ticket when I spend £4 on a small coke, and stay for 15 minutes in a pub id rather not be in. Then I get a parking ticket.
So you're both getting bad reviews.
I don't care who's fault it is. But it's not mine. I don't read tiny writing on posts!!!!!
What a liberty! I want you to lose ALL of my personal data please!
As it belongs to me, you can't have it.
So delete all trace of me as well!

Exceedingly predatory company that…

Exceedingly predatory company that doesn't accept even the smallest minute difference in parking times. Charges multiple times more than any other company for mispaid parking, doesn't even take care of it's carparks properly with nearly every ticket machine breaking down all the time. Charges massively for any overnight parking, and doesn't let you pay by the hour after certain times. Horrendous scam of a parking provider. Do better.

Truly disgusting company

Truly disgusting company.
Attempted to park at Plymouth harbour with disabled son in car. None of the machines were working, so tried to pay via phone, also not functioning correctly. Gave up after 15minutes and parked elsewhere. £100 Fine came through around 2 weeks later. Tried to appeal, ..they didn’t want to know. Have appealed to the British parking association, but not expecting much, as they’re also a private company, and it’s more of a”members club” for firms rather than an independent group governing best practice.

I would give ZERO stars if I could

I would give ZERO stars if I could. I have worked at Waitrose since April 2025 and no problem up until the end of March 2026. I have 9 tickets where they were all squashed as I am a member of Waitrose staff. Britannia have emailed to acknowledge this, but since then, including today I still receive parking notices. What is even more unbelievable is that every single notice is received after the time to pay the reduced fee. SCAMMERS

WARNING! Do not even enter their carparks.

Bunch of scammers. I purchased a ticket in Plymouth for £8.80 but their machine would not allow me to put my full number plate in only showing the first two letters. Machine was either broken or fixed. Still received a ticket. They will hunt you to the ends of the earth for money as they only make money from penalty notices scamming innocent people. They issue tickets for people who have entered one of their carparks and left without paying because of no spaces available, and many other reasons. If you don't believe me speak to the Plymouth tourism board. WARNING! do not enter any of their carparks and get trapped.

Visit to Plymouth

I visited a venue in Plymouth with my children and used Britannia Parking due to its proximity. I attempted to register my vehicle using the on-site system; however, unknowing to me, the process failed because of poor mobile signal inside the building. I thought the transaction had gone through.

Several weeks later, I received a parking charge notice for £100, reduced to £60 if paid within 28 days. I was unaware of any breach at the time and made multiple attempts to appeal the charge, as the issue was clearly unintentional. Although I received an automated acknowledgment, I did not receive any substantive response despite waiting several weeks.

Out of frustration and in the absence of a reply, I paid the charge without the opportunity to complete the appeals process. Based on this experience, I will not be using their parking facilities again.

PLYMOUTH - Britannia Scum bags!

PLYMOUTH - Car park under Staples/Bingo.
Britannia are absolute scumbags. Used the machine, no paper ticket was provided, so I checked my bank to ensure payment had been taken, which it had, so I thought I was safe but just in case, I left a note on the dashboard to advise payment had been made by card and no ticket was provided (fully appreciate that wasn’t evidence). Next thing I know, parking fine through the door, so I checked my bank and the payment had disappeared, as was originally stating it was pending, so I contacted the bank, who confirmed payment had actually been made, but Brittania hadn’t bothered to claim the payment, and provided me with the authorisation code for them to claim this payment (£1.70!!!) I appealed with the evidence but was declined with them saying it was my responsibility to ensure a paper ticket was provided. So instead of just accepting my authorisation code for the £1.70 ticket, they proceeded to still charge me £60. Absolute robbing scum bags. Can I also say the car park is absolutely vile and full of items that clearly belong to the homeless tenants that like to live in there. DO NOT USE BRITANNIA CAR PARKS!!!!!

Awful

Awful company. Unfair charges with signage not clear with ridiculous penalties. Even if you try appeal with legitimate evidence they’ll still enforce their fines and reject your appeal.

1 star because I cannot go lower

1 star because I cannot go lower! fined on a Sunday morning whilst visiting the emergency vets which resulted in my dog being put to sleep. I appealed and supplied the invoice from the vets confirming that our dog had been put to sleep. Just received a note back saying despite the circumstances the fine is still relevant and 14 days to which to pay. Gobsmacked!!! How can they enforce fines at an emergency vets???? to make matters worse it was 8am on the Sunday so no other shops were open until 10am!! so hardly overstaying my welcome. Would love the chance to argue in court.

Could not leave Edinburgh Quay car park

Edinburgh Quay.
Payment machine issued receipt but did not return ticket, so I couldn't leave car park. Told several drivers not to enter. No reply when calling help number.
Returned to pay machine 10 min after to try to find alternative way out - and ticket had then been returned (was sticking out of machine) Paid again with debit not credit card, and only then was asked to leave.
Customer service finally called me another 15 min later (so half an hour after I called them) and said they would just leave the barriers open because no one could pay

Received a parking charge notice to keeper despite purchasing a parking ticket on the date in question.

The invoice is worded to trigger fear, making reference to signage and that failure to pay a charge will result in debt recovery.

Time taken to comply with the appeals requirement, to make a formal complaint and unable to locate a contact number for Britannia parking to escalate my concerns.

I will never use a Britannia car park again

⭐ 1 Star

⭐ 1 Star – EV Drivers Be Careful

Very disappointing experience.

I entered this site only to use the EV charging station, not to use the car park as a normal parking customer. However, I later found that I was still required to pay a separate car park fee on top of using the charging service.

As an EV driver, this feels very unfair. When you arrive to charge your vehicle, you naturally expect to pay for the electricity you use, not to discover afterwards that an additional parking payment was also expected immediately on entry.

This setup is not customer-friendly and creates the impression that the system is designed to generate extra income from people who are simply trying to use the charging facilities.

For me, it is not about the amount paid, but about the principle. If EV users must also pay a separate parking fee, this should be made far clearer before they start charging.

I am leaving this review to warn other EV drivers: if you use this charging station, make sure you check the parking rules straight away, otherwise you may end up paying extra charges you did not expect.
