Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 136 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers frequently complain about receiving unexpected parking fines because of unclear signage, hidden restrictions, and sudden tariff changes across various locations. Many visitors also struggle with broken payment machines and confusing instructions that make it nearly impossible to settle fees properly. However, some people mentioned that their formal appeals were automatically dismissed without any genuine consideration of the specific circumstances. Reviewers often describe feeling pressured by debt collection agencies and facing significant financial penalties that cause immense frustration. Others noted that trying to fix these problems wastes considerable time.

legalised crime

when i visited west quay two days ago i went into the car park as usual and noticed there was no ticket isued ,it was clear as others were saying the samething and trying to get an app to work after scaning a qr code ,i later had the same problem and called the help number and told them i could not find a way to get out of the car park because i could not find a way to pay and there system did not work upon which i was told i was the problem (rude)
i calmed down and managed to get this moron to tell me that i just had pay at the barrier
why was it so difficault for him just to tell me that in the first place
it just summs up the mentality of this company who have got no more regard for people that organised crime!

Do not use their car parks

Do not use their car parks . i paid fully . got a charge . i appealed , i submitted my receipt . They rejected my appeal , didn’t say why . Appealing through POPLA now . Absolute farce . They clearly just reject appeals without even looking at them .

Had no working payment terminals and then try to fine me when I couldn't have paid if I wanted to. Already rejected my appeal when I gave them the evidence, and now I have to go through a third party appeal. Country is washed

Crooks

Recently received a fine for “a valid ticket not purchased”.
I recently parked in Britannia parking pay & display - parked there from 6:30pm til around 11pm . At the time the sign only showed charges up til 8pm at night so paid until then . When I got the fine through to say I haven’t paid correctly. I appealed this and explained . The appeal was rejected as was informed there are new charges for overnight which is clearly signed and this new enforcement started a few months earlier.

This is very frustrating and inconsiderate as if I had seen these new signs - I would have happily followed the new fees . But it is not my fault the company didn’t update the old sign that I had looked at when purchasing my ticket ! Is it normal to look at several car park meters to ensure the charges all state the same . Also the company could be considerate that this a recent enforcement within the last 3 months so should give some grace to existing customers with the new changes .

If you could leave a minus I would

If you could leave a minus I would. I purchased a ticket upon arrival and then subsequently extended the duration as we needed to park for longer. A week or so later I received a fine through the post for £60 if paid within 14 days or £100 thereafter. I appealed this as my bank showed that I had paid for x4 lots which would have covered the hours required. However my appeal was rejected and I was told that I had exceeded the parking by 33 mins. My understanding is you can appeal further however if not withdrawn you have no choice but to pay the £100. £60/£100 for essentially 33 minutes parking is extorsion!! If they want to retain custom perhaps they should have a system whereby you pay upon exiting the carpark - oh hang on, you can't make money that way!! Poor poor company!!

Customer service Britannia Parking

Has anyone got any idea how to actually talk to someone one at Britannia Parking in Dorset? I have paid a parking fine even though I was at the
hooden Horse in Westwood so I can’t appeal but since then I have received a email telling me I haven’t paid. I believe this email is a scam but it would be nice to confirm it with Britannia. Any help would be appreciated

Unbelievable Experience!

Unbelievable Experience!

I’m absolutely furious with this parking situation! I wish I can give them and minus 5 stars!
The payment machine only allows payments until 8 PM, which is completely ridiculous. I paid £3 for 3 hours of parking to the parking machine when I arrived the West Quay Retail Park in Southampton at 5:45 PM and the machine only permitted me to park until 8pm — does that mean they overcharged me as I had paid £3 for 3 hours and they only gave me 2 hours 15 mintues because of their policy? How is that fair?

To make things worse, neither the payment machine nor the app allows payments beyond 8 PM, even though we clearly indicated that we wanted to stay longer. And guess what? We ended up getting a fine for going over 8 PM, despite having paid £3 for parking! It feels like a deliberate setup to scam customers for more profit through fines.

I made an appeal and they agreed that I had breach the parking contract for they only allow parking until 8pm even though I had followed their contract requirement of £3 for 3 hour parking! Their staff informed us of the absurd process: you can only pay until 8 PM (and if you underestimate your time, you risk getting fined). Then, if you want to stay longer, you have to leave your shopping or dinner, rush back to the car park by 8 PM to buy another ticket. It’s truly a scam!

impossible to pay and data protection concern

If I could rate -5 stars I would. But mainly this review is a warning - don't use Britannia parking. Not only did we find it was impossible to pay at a machine or online we later discovered that a previous owner of our car got charged even though they have lived abroad since selling the car 6 years ago. This suggests Britannia illegally retain personal data including bank details and take your money when they feel like it - so watch out.

Is there a worse company in this country?

A payment machine that only allowed us to pay up until 8pm. Likewise a payment app that would only accept a payment up until 8pm, even though we instructed it that we wished to stay longer. And then a fine when we went over 8pm - what was the alternative?

I have since been instructed by their own staff that if you wish to stay in one of their carparks beyond 8pm then you need to:

Pay on arrival up until 8PM - maximum accepted by the payment machine.
Go to your destination
Leave your destination and return to the carpark at 8pm
Buy another ticket to take you beyond 8pm
Return to your destination

Anyone know another car park company that operates like this? Bunch of petty criminals !!!

VILE COMPANY

You must have to be a certain kind of person to work for Britannia parking they showed no empathy whatsoever despite mitigating circumstance. Karma will no doubt catch up with these crooks one day.

Should be put out of business

My experience with Britannia Parking has been nothing short of infuriating. In my personal opinion, their customer service is among the worst I’ve ever dealt with. The responses I received felt dismissive, unhelpful, and showed no genuine willingness to resolve anything.

The attitude I encountered came across as apathetic and unprofessional, leaving me feeling completely disregarded as a customer. Based on my experience, this company shows little respect for the people who use its services, and I would strongly advise others to think twice before relying on them.

I sincerely hope they overhaul their customer service, because in my view, no company should treat customers the way I was treated.

Rip of company

Rip of company, with fake reasoning behind a fine. Even though I paid 8 hours which entitles you to full 24 hour regardless. Dont use their parking.

Robbing Bas***ds

This is an unanswerable question. However. Improve? You might accept that sometimes when people park at a hospital, they don't know how long they will be there. They may be in a hurry to get in. They go through the motions of offering and appeal and the dismiss it. Not based on the grounds of the appeal. I explained I had a relative in hospital. and there was a change in their medical situation whilst I was there, resulting in my stay being longer than initially expected I suggested the machine was confusing when in a rush. Britannia's defence for fining me was. There is adequate signage!!! Avoid whenever. A bent as f*** company, making money and exploiting an already bad situation. Money orientated thieves.

Be very careful using any of their car parks and avoid if possible

We entered the car park in Carlisle to go for lunch in a nearby Wetherspoons. Although we have a Blue Badge we were unsure of the rules so paid for parking, went for lunch, returned to the car park about an hour later and left. A few weeks later we received a parking fine, I replied with a copy of my bank statement showing the payment and mentioned that we had a blue badge. They replied a couple of weeks later asking for a copy of the badge which I sent. They have now replied very generously reducing the fine from £100 to £20 if we pay by 30/11. But if we want to appeal:
Make an appeal to POPLA - The Independent Appeals service. Please note that if you wish to appeal to POPLA, you will lose the right to pay the Parking Charge at the discounted rate, and should POPLA's decision not go in your favour you will be required to pay the full amount. If you opt to pay the Parking Charge you will be unable to appeal to POPLA.

By law we are also required to inform you that Ombudsman Services provides an alternative dispute resolution service that would be competent to deal with your appeal. However, we have not chosen to participate in their alternative dispute resolution service. As such should you wish to appeal then you must do so to POPLA, as explained above.

That's what I call having you over a barrel. I have neither the headspace or the inclination to appeal so I am now about to pay the £20.

I hope that the owners of this company "enjoy" every penny of this money they have stolen from us and also enjoy the resultant karma from stealing money from innocent citizens, especially disabled people.

Overcharge and are scammers

Overcharge and are scammers. Went to park at 6.50pm for dinner at Westquay. Charging me £7.20 for just a couple hours parking because I went over the 8pm mark. Anything over 8pm, even for just a little over will charge you £5+ on top.

Shame I can't leave a zero or minus zero star rating. This company issues fines incorrectly, relying on people paying up, rather than the hassle of appealing. They are downright chancers who should be closed down and the management in jail for fraud. They are doing this non-stop in Bromley, Kent and say they will sort the issue of the cameras out, but don't.

Received a Paring Charge Notice from Britannia Parking, fair enough my fault! However, when paying was directed to Ecom6 Limited, where I had to give my Address, e-mail address and telephone number. Now two companies have my details. Britannia Parking fair enough but Ecom6 Limited not sure!

Avoid this Company

This company can improve by not charging Blue Badge holders to park in their disabled bays. More clearer signage and clearly show where the cameras are located.
Southampton West Quay is a prime example where Britannia-Parking are carrying out their unscrupulous practices! West Quay used to be free for Blue Badge holders and the new charge for parking has been introduced very sneakily. Park anywhere else and avoid Britannia Parking robbers
