TMS btn turbo junk

Bought one of these turbos through TMS... big mistake!! Sent it back after 1000 ISH miles had to keep using it for work even though it whistled from the start, the van became more sluggish and had more lag, it was clearly not built correctly... they took it back and tested and said it was fine and within the parameters etc.... all lies!! I'm now stuck with it since the cow boys, won't give me my money back under warranty. Avoid at all costs!!! I put another turbo on from a different company and van runs brilliant now.

Turbo's made of chocolate!

For anyone wanting to purchase a turbo through BTN, I would highly recommend going elsewhere!

Only 3 months after purchasing a 'new' turbo and fitting to a customers vehicle, it was confirmed failed. We carried out every possible test and confirmed the engine was in a good state of health. However and once again BTN wormed out of any possible claim.

The reasons given from BTN that this can happen and the damage explained in the report stated as ‘impact damage on turbine wheel’, to which I felt was incorrect. The only damage that can be seen, is the damage caused by the turbine rubbing on the outer housing. The blades themselves show no impact or chips from any “hard” particles hitting it, the same can be seen on the compressor wheel as rubbing on the outer casing.

We had extensively checked this engine for any damage to the injectors and piston/valve assembly, all of which are in perfect working order. We also carried out various oil pressure tests, which confirmed all ok.

The reasons listed on the failure sheet were irrelevant, simply because the vehicle is not fitted with an EGR valve, swirl flaps and various other mentions. We’ve had the catalytic convertor checked to include the exhaust system, everything is free and no signs of any blockages.

*To highlight in the report regarding the regeneration comment, this vehicle is not fitted with a DPF due to it being a PETROL engine NOT a diesel*.

All pipes and filters are in perfect working order.

The overall description given was nothing more than a thinly veiled reason to excuse a poorly manufactured part.

As a company owner and purchasing numerous turbo's from them, we will never be using BTN from our suppliers again!

Stay away from this monkey outift…

Stay away from this monkey outift because they have every get out clause you could ever imagine to not honour any warranty implied in the presale hype. Buy a turbo from them and you need to spend a grand having the engine stripped down completely to avoid their little get out clauses. They show an apparent 110k in critical pdf file BTN_Bulletin_DS089.pdf showing an engine sludged up to the eyeballs which bears no resemblance to my 150k engine anyway. They dont have any reviews either so BEWARE

A few notes in the get out clauses

"The photographs above are from an engine which has completed approximately 110,000 miles. The engine has been serviced by an approved dealer at the correct service intervals using the manufacturer’s recommended oil and filters. This engine has caused two new turbocharger failures in a very short time."

No engine I have ever owned and never maintained by dealers either. Its a fantasy scare story pic. Thats not to say if you dont look after your cars better than your wives you will always be in trouble and the turbo would be the least of your worries.!

"These critical instructions have been produced because there has been an exceptionally high return rate of the above turbos with issues which are NOT covered by warranty."

Says it all right there!!

"Oil feed pipes and fittings for these turbos have been purchased from the O.E.S. and these turbos will
NOT be supplied without the additional purchase of these components."

So you can triple the price you thought you were paying right there!!

"To help reduce the potential for further turbo failure, the following instructions MUST be followed when
fitting this turbocharger.
• !!! NOTE: Feedback shows, that even after the following instructions have been followed faithfully there is
no guarantee the residual carbon/sludge will have been removed; which can cause subsequent damage to
the turbo bearings and result in premature failure of your replacement turbo.
• Failure under these circumstances will NOT be covered under warranty as the failure is caused by
external influences and not faulty turbo components.

LOL need I go on. I wouldnt recommend the ebay chinese turbos unless you are a real plodder, even then no. But I would buy one of those at a fraction of BTN costs in preference to dealing with this monkey outfit quite clearly.

Run, head for the hills and stay away from cowboys.
